  1. I used to have long hair too, but its necessary in the days where jobs are tight to look your best! Good to hear your on a career you enjoy
  2. 20 mobile phone batteries per person, sounds good.
  3. Ge90 is a monster, i'm fortunate that I work with them everyday, the 787 engine obviously incorporates new technologies into the design that increase its efficiency and sound levels, and that engine will get better over time as the GE90 engine range has Its interesting to note that the fan case of the GE90 range are exactly the same outer diameter size, its just the inner fan track that increases in size, to incorporate the bigger blades
  4. I guess ill turn to the dark side to resolve this issue if needs be...
  5. Fabulous day today, sun shining and great displays form the likes of the Red Arrows, Britling wing walking teams , Typhoon, and red Bull teams I want to point out im not a photographer i borrowed a 7D cannon and a 100-400 lens for it and just shot some stuff!
  6. Ive also had problems with the photoscenery files not uncompressing, they were the Cardiff and Bristol Sceneries!
  7. I have a separate problem with certain files, I downloaded two photoreal sceneries, about 3 Gb in filesize. I just cannot get it to extract, tried 7zip, Winrar and Winzip...to no avail. All of the OSM data files work perfect.. :(
  8. Parts for RB211's are scarce now, making repairing and keeping all them 744's flying happily is a task!
  9. I was recently on a flight with easyjet from Barcelona to Bristol when the a319 was taxiing on just one engine with the PTU running. The cabin staff told us that the airline were trying out a fuel saving technique and that the hydraulics that we could hear were powering the aircraft during taxi. Its noted that the cabin crew had informed us to all take seats and ensure that our luggage was neatly stowed as the aircraft was full today. From this i obviously gathered that they were touching very close to minimum landing fuel estimate and opted to not put more fuel in to account for the extra pax load...
  10. The latches can be notoriously difficult to seat and latch, but they should still be checked to see if they are flush with the cowling. And yes it is all speculation but its not exactly a stab in the dark, its totally possible that the cowling has severed a fluid line.
  11. Both cowls gone...Someone in maintenance has clearly made an error here.
  12. What you need is all your guns taken away. I've never met anyone in the UK that owns an illegal firearm or heard of anyone around where i live. We just don't have any guns, and you know what...people don't get shot. I'm just saying, and don't want an argument As pointed, you cold get stabbed to death by a pack of thugs with swords, but at least you got the heads up, and maybe a chance to run!
  13. I didn't think you did, i was just making sure Yea they've obviously got something wrong with the assembly that's a given. They are installed its just some have incorrect lock-wiring and some with incorrectly installed couplings. I think raptor did mention, it could be an error in the manual, or a certain wording of an assembly operation that's causing confusion among the fitters. Sometimes even the manual can be confusing as to what exactly its asking you to do, especially if its a newly written manual.
  14. Sorry, but that's a bit of an uncalled for statement. I once was an apprentice bolting stuff together, i was always checked and over stamped. And what just because they're a trainee they are not smart? We wouldn't be working in the industry if we were that dim.
  15. Yep, all to well! I just hope they get it sorted ^_^
  16. Ive just gone to read the AD, im surprised at the cost of the repair, and also id like to think they would do this on wing also now. I understand the engine serial number and tracability of the components, i do it everyday. I dont think i worded my answer right so sorry about that. You are right though. I think in this instance new seals and lockwiring is going to take place plus some other bits, should be no problem on wing. Obviously i've never seen or got my hands on a 787 engine so cant comment on the fixtures that they have used. AN and NAS fittings are all i've ever come across. And obviously pipes with pre formed packaging gaskets for like fuel flow meters and in line filters etc... And i dont envy the on wing guys, its hard enough when the engine is sitting in a cargo stand let alone hanging off the wing
  17. Yea they could mod it on wing i suppose. Yea the mod would normally be called to engine serial numbers that were affected, but being new engines i would have thought that it would include all the engines . I work at an engine overhaul facility on many engine types so i know exactly what you mean by 'real world isnt perfect' And where did you hear they were wiggins fittings?
  18. Hmmm debatable. What if the couplings are designed incorrectly and a new modded batch are needed? then that requires every engine to be called back for repair...and a new manifold or couplings to be manufactured and tested. I see where your coming from though.
  19. Fuel manifold couplings leaking, i wouldn't say that's a niggle...That's pretty serious stuff.
  20. I work Powerplant overhaul only and i love my job! best career move i've ever made, if you like aircraft and aviation and mechanics then you cant go wrong with a mech job And the pay is very good in most cases.
