  1. Noncompetitive games like this usually prioritize connection speed, then try to match things like the player's "zone" (part of your live profile) and whether or not you've preferred, avoided, or muted other players. There may be a weighting for your level too, but I don't know which way that would go (preference to matching high levels to low levels, or to matching players of roughly the same level?). If you've avoided a player, you will almost never randomly wind up in the same lobby as them again in the future.
  2. I rented Just Cause 2. It's fun, but even on the lowest difficulty, eventually the entire army will come after you at all times, so flying around isn't very fun at that point. Certainly enjoyable for a few days, but I prefer Flight, personally. One of the more interesting locations in that game is a casino/bar hanging from a zeppelin, complete with an airstrip several thousand feet off the ground. Not much room to land though, especially if there is a Learjet-knockoff parked waiting to go.
  3. I use the stick most on approach & departure as well, so mapping the flaps to that makes sense for me. I use trim mostly just to allow me to fly the en-route leg hands-off.
  4. You can disable that in the menus, but they pester you to enable that every time you turn it on. Not something I mind, personally. I figure if the Flight Devs see me flying IFR approaches over and over maybe they'll get the message.
  5. Does anyone else have any suggested remappings for the controls?I've mapped a bunch of my most used commands to the Number pad:7/1 - Mixture Increase/Decrease9/3 - Prop Increase/Decrease4/6 - Eyepoint Left/Right8/2 - Elevator Trim Nose Down/Up0 - Cockpit View. - Top-Down View5 - Reset CameraI'm still considering functions to map to the *, /, +, and - keys. I had added zoom in/out to + and -, but the Mouse Wheel is much better for that.My joystick only has 5 buttons aside from the trigger, so those are mapped to flaps up/down, next camera, landing gear, and voice transmit (from CTRL+TAB).Anyone else have recommended remappings or suggestions for those precious few joystick buttons?
  6. LIVE is Microsoft's proprietary online gaming network. It's a fairly secure system that handles multiplayer gameplay, title updates, and downloadable content all under a single umbrella akin to Valve's Steam or EA's Origin. It offers some pretty nifty dev tools that make it easy for them to release patches, updates, and add-ons, in addition to allowing them to access a wealth of player data.Other cool tie-ins apply if you're also a Zune or Xbox user, since the Gamertag, Friends List, and Microsoft Points currency is shared among all 3 services (Games for Windows LIVE, Xbox LIVE, and Zune).LIVE is also built into Windows 8 and Windows Phone 7 software. You should take care in choosing a name, as you may find yourself using your Flight gamertag in a lot of different places. :Nerd:Edit: it's also important to note that when free patches or title updates are released, you will likely be unable to access multiplayer, new DLC, or other LIVE services in-game until you apply the patch/update.
  7. I've been using 3000 as my upper limit for flying overweight. I've successfully operated at this weight on many of the non-agricultural airstrips on the Hawaiian Islands. Good luck trying STOL over the proscribed limit though...
  8. Lineup at Molokai (Note Hawg landing on the taxiway on the left side of the frame)Mere moments before Kaloyanic's connection kicked everyone from the lobby...Not a great photo, but I took it at the exact same time that Kalo took one of his. It also shows how far behind I usually was as one of the last people on takeoff. :D
  9. Points you get for achievements are tallied to generate your "Gamerscore." These points can't be used to purchase DLC. DLC can be purchased via credit card or paypal at Xbox.com, or by using "Microsoft Points," which is just their proprietary space-cash system. Microsoft Points can be acquired through Xbox and Zune, or by purchasing preloaded cards from retailers.Again, you CANNOT use Gamerscore to purchase DLC.
  10. If anyone is looking for a beacon of hope for 3rd party support, there is a precedent using the LIVE architecture. Games created using Microsoft's XNA studio can be sold on the Xbox 360 after passing certification by other 3rd party developers, while a similar system exists for creating and selling user-generated add-ons for Rock Band 3 via LIVE called the "Rock Band Network."
  11. Curious that Flight doesn't have that berm to the east of the runway.
  12. First, check under "Sound" in your computer's Control Panel to make sure they are recognized by the system. Test the audio in the headset's speaker, then check the mic to make sure it can hear you. Assuming it checks out okay, fire up Flight. At the main menu, press the Home key (or the Guide button if you use an Xbox Controller). This will bring up a Windows Live menu at the top of the screen. Click on "Settings" to the right, then from there go to Voice Settings and make sure your headset is selected for both audio output and microphone input.Once that is setup, you should be able to talk in multiplayer. Hold down the TAB key to broadcast your voice to everyone in the session, and release it when you are finished speaking. Alternatively, you can use CTRL+TAB to broadcast on your radio, but only people in your vicinity and tuned to the same radio frequency as your aircraft will hear you.
  13. I don't think I've actually used Bing to find any of these. I click the button, look at the useless results, then Google it.
  14. That seems to be the best to use. I sent them a question about my performance issues around Oahu and they've replied to say they're looking into it.
  15. From what I've been able to gather so far:Cargo: 500 point bonus for flying at night (if you start at night, you get the bonus immediately, if the sun sets, you get the bonus then).Sightseeing: 500(?) point bonus for flying at dusk/dawn, 1000 point bonus if the passenger has to pee and you land and let them out, plus 65(?) point bonuses for flying past extra landmarks.
  16. It might just be because I haven't used TrackIR, but looking around while flying is not difficult at all without it. My stick's hat switch paired with my mouse are more than enough to give me all of the freedom of looking around I need (with Numpad-5 remapped to "reset eyepoint").
  17. If you've got the runway for it, I find it easiest to come in between 60 and 70 kts and flaps at 40º (extended two notches), then level off a few feet from the runway, cut the throttle, and settle in. The lower speed and fully extended flaps the checklist tells you to do seem more for short landings, and those tend more often to be pretty rough (for me at least).
  18. I'm reinstalling FSX this very moment to see how it performs on this machine. My old computer had half the RAM and ran it alright, maybe I can get FSX to run well with this. Having learned so much from Flight, I might be able to enjoy FSX more than last time I tried it!
  19. One curious thing is that the airport information within flight includes the ASOS/AWOS/ATIS frequencies. Perhaps they're something that may come soon? I certainly hope so. In the meantime, one alternative may be to use another person in Multiplayer as a sort of improvised unicom and just have them tell you the wind information off of their HUD.
  20. Another strategy for the waterfall caches is to just land on the bluffs above and walk down to them. B)
  21. I like to leave my aircraft parked at the GA hangars at Kahului. Once we get helis, I intend to choose a residence that I will fly to after parking my Maule. :Just Kidding:
  22. With my graphics settings, these look like crap compared to yours, but I was tapping the V button semi-regularly. Here's a couple I got:Off-runway lineup at Waimea-Kohala. 3 seconds sooner and I'd have gotten Fang flying through inverted about 15 feet above us.Fly-in at Hana
  23. I think I've bumped into most of you at one point or another. My tag is AzureAngel17.
  24. All you can really do is make sure your own connection is in good condition (which it appears to be). The rest is up to the other players in your session. If you do encounter lag, one thing you can do to help other players not hit you is to make very smooth movements and minimize your inputs on the controls. That won't have any noticeable effect on your system, but other players will see you jumping around less.I'd also avoid crowded taxiways in high-lag environments. You may move forward a few feet on your screen, but appear to wildly accelerate to another player, leading to a collision when you appear to snap back to where you stopped. I've seen feelings hurt over that sort of affair.
