  1. I tried to pick a fav - but I couldn't. :-) Great shots! Ron
  2. I'd love to hear of something. I've tried a number of different "water effects" over the years, but they always seem too over the top and I end up turning them off.
  3. Can't wait! It's like Christmas in October! :-)
  4. Sidney - yes, I use UT, and that doesn't seem to be a factor for me...
  5. Sorry, Sidney - both locations loaded okay for me. I tried two different seasons. Ron
  6. I don't even own X-Plane, but that is impressive work. Nice!
  7. Just to clarify: Aime's textures are the standard 256x256 size; but he uploaded 1074 of them. Can't imagine the hours that went into that so far. I am primarily using FSGenesis landclass. I need to fly a lot more before stating anything definitive.
  8. Thank you, Aime, for the incredible amount of work that you just gave us! 1074 texture files, folks! Amazing. I have not used them enough to know if I like them over my old set or not; but my first impression when looking down was very favorable. The color saturation seems right - not cartoony like some I have seen over the years. Some interesting details and variations. I think I saw a few unusual areas of snow when I set the season to Spring - needs more experimenting. Looking forward to whatever comes next! Ron
  9. I tried this question in the FS2004 forum, and got nothing, so maybe it is better here... I was curious if anyone has ever seen any replacement autogen building sets? (Not just textures, I have those.) It seems to me there are way too many multistory office buildings out in suburban and rural areas. And almost no barns or one story industrial type buildings. Internet searches don't seem to come up with anything, so I'm throwing the question out to the masses.
  10. Aime, Those videos look very nice indeed. Kudos for all the work that goes into reworking the textures! Can I inquire which water and environment textures you are using? Yours look very nice, and I dare say realistic. The sky looks a little too dark for my taste - maybe it's my location (more haze), but I keep my sky a lighter blue. Continued luck on your project! Ron
  11. Maybe this should be under Scenery Design, but I was curious if anyone has ever seen any replacement autogen building sets? (Not just textures, I have those.) It seems to me there are way too many multistory office buildings out in suburban and rural areas. And almost no barns or one story industrial type buildings. Internet searches don't seem to come up with anything, so I'm throwing the question out the masses.
  12. A technical expert I'm not, but if I remember, it's a patch that lets FS9 see/address the larger memory available in Win 7 systems; as WinXP rarely had that much. Since Jon said he didn't use it, perhaps you want to try it that way first.
  13. I agree with Jon's comment about Win 7's stability. I just installed it to a new folder called "FS9". I DID install the 4GB patch. (Search the forums, or Google it...) Getting the Scenery Library to work is frustrating until you know the trick - unfortunately, it's been so long, I forget it myself. And you will have to re-install some some aircraft and some sceneries. Other things just copy over with no problems. I'd suggest starting the process and then either search the forums, or post again if you run into any issues. Good luck, and happy flying! Ron
  14. This sounds interesting, but I'm not quite following what the various settings should be. Could you please post yours for each of those parameters? Thanks! Ron
  15. That is very impressive. I was always too scared to try and make my own scenery, but you have given me hope that it might be possible! Ron
  16. Well said! I read quite a few forums and "comments" sections on various sites; and it really seems like the national pastime is to be as crude as possible and bash someone in print as a kind of contest. A sign of our times I guess...
  17. To bring this back to reality, I want to answer the Why? question... As I stated earlier, I fly FS9. It's all I fly, and will be for the foreseeable future. I have noticed a few small addon airports that are local to my area, but only exisit in FSX. If there was a stable - and non-geeky - way to port them into FS9, I would certainly make the effort to do so. In other words, it's a way to expand the universe we fly in. Nothing cheeky or crazy about it. And if the situation was reversed, I would also want to try it. Ron
  18. I would be interested in more details from someone on this. There are a couple of small (addon) airports, local to me, that are FSX only. It would be great to convert them! Ron
  19. Hmmm. I tried a simple airport conversion once with ModelConverterX, and it reported there was nothing in the file. Maybe user error? :-)
  20. I have new clue / observation if anyone wants to take a stab at it... It appears that the "cutoff" effect (shown in the previous post) only happens when I customize the weather. If I pick the program's "Fair Weather" theme, for example, I get a similar look but all the high level clouds are intact across the sky. If I go into Custom / Advanced, and set up my own layers and density - it's back to the cutoff effect again. Beats me...
  21. Thanks, Jim! (I think.) Looks like some more hours playing with the internals rather than flying. :-)
  22. Jim, I seem to remember that info about the sky textures from reading things over the years. Do you know if there is a guide around describing exactly what does what? Ron
  23. Thanks, all. I'll try that. Then I'll have to decide which is more important - the clouds or having the horizon fade away. I kind of like the hazy horizon. Ron
  24. Not REX, these are Pablo's HDE v2 clouds. I also don't use any real weather software; just a custom "fair weather" setup.
