  1. From all the bits and pieces they have communicated in the last 1,5 years, I would expect the Prepar3d version to be pretty far out. My bet is mid to end 2018. Too bad for them, as I would expect most advanced simmers (which they try to address) to be on P3Dv4 already. I will certainly not reinstall FSX just for the 787. I did that for the FSL bus and after 2 flights stopped using it. Boy, was going back to FSX a horrible experience. And if I'm going to buy it in 2018 depends on the other options available. If by that time there is another PMDG bird on the horizon then I will forego the QW 787 and go for that one.
  2. Same here. Performance is much better than with the old version in P3Dv3. Also getting 30+fps even at night time with DL and also when sitting on the runway facing the airport terminals. Seems that recompiling the dlls with the P3Dv4 SDK really helps with performance. Was the same with Aerosoft EDDF Professional.
  3. Why is it waiting indefinitely? They have been announced for release in October. So roughly 3 weeks. But hey, it's you money...
  4. Why would you upgrade now that the 8th generation CPUs are just about to be released? Even if you still want to buy the 7th generation 7820X then at least I would wait for the price drop which will most likely occur once the new CPUs are out...
  5. I moved from a GTX780 to a GTX1070 one year ago and even though it doesn't necesseraly increase fps it did greatly reduce fps variance and therefore enhance smoothness. The graphics card does make a difference even in P3Dv3.
  6. Even though the FSLabs A320 is great, there is nothing that is as polished and finished yet fun to fly as the NGX. This is still the pinnacle of all study level aircraft for P3D. And the reasoning that you don't want to buy it because you already own the FSX version is a sunk cost fallacy.
  7. All you guys are really stuck with the question what developers "have to do". Of course, they don't have to do anything. But customer satisfaction and customer retention doesn't come from doing the minimum you are obliged to do. Flightbeam goes the extra mile and that will have a positive spill over on future sales.
  8. Honestly, I'm really fed up with developers who refer to EULAs and past "promises" to justify why they either do not provide updates or why they charge for them no matter how small they are. Developers should be concerned with customer satisfaction and not what they are legally obliged to do. And you know what? There are actually developers out there who think this way. Look at Flightbeam, FlyTampa, 29Palms, etc. They don't always justify themselves but rather provide extensive upgrades for free to make their customers happy. And that is why I will focus on spending money with these developers in the future...
  9. What pi@/&? me off is that Aerosoft sceneries do not work in P3Dv4 because they kept using the same old FS9 ground poly techniques in almost all their newer sceneries. So basically, one has to pay the upgrade fees just because Aerosoft uses ancient technology in P3D compatible products. With other developers like Taxi2Gate and Justsim you have the option to upgrade if you want to have dynamic lighting and other features, but the sceneries work just fine without the paid upgrade.
  10. I don't have 777 Immersion because for me it is not worth it. I rarely leave the virtual cockpit so external effects are of limited value for me. I also never bought FS2Crew 777 for P3Dv4 because I think that charging the full amount for the port from P3Dv3 is a total rip-off. Apart from that, even though FS2Crew is nice, the 777 is so easy to fly without the help of a virtual co-pilot that I didn't use it much in the final days of P3Dv3 anyways. So I'm not missing it at all. I personally think that one can spend the $62 on better add-ons.
  11. Of course, if you don't have any immediate need for a new PC then it could be worth it to wait for the 10nm generation. My CPU died two weeks ago so I currently have no simming PC which is really tough (first world problems... ;-) ). But I'm not jumping onto a 7700K right away but will wait for the 8700K as this will at least give me 6 cores at a small extra cost (if any).
  12. Cannon Lake will most likely only be released next year with the mobile CPUs released first. So the desktop variants will most likely not be released earlier than in the second half of 2018. So it doesn't really make sense to wait for that. But waiting for Coffee Lake which will be released in the next couple of weeks is certainly worth it.
  13. Don't buy now. Wait for Coffee Lake. The 8700K will be presented on August, 21st. The wait should be worth it from what I have read.
  14. The first Coffee Lake CPUs incl. the 8700K will be presented to the public on August, 21st. I think, it is quite realistic to assume that the chips will be available for the mass market in October at the latest. http://www.pcworld.com/article/3214630/computers/intels-8th-gen-coffee-lake-core-cpus-will-be-revealed-during-the-great-american-eclipse.html
  15. Guys, thanks for all the input. Waiting is extremely hard as I cannot flightsim at all at the moment, but I will still wait. The 8700K will most likely be introduced to the public in 2 weeks at Gamescon and I think it will be possible to order the required parts not much later than October. So this is 7 or 8 weeks without flightsimming. That's hard but doable. The wait may be worth it. The 8700K supposedly will have a turbo frequency of 4.7 GHz on a single core so that it should be no problem to overclock it to 4.8 GHz. That should easily perform on par with a 7700K at 5 GHz. Patience is a virtue sometimes... (even though I'm most likely the most impatient person on this planet)... ;-(
  16. Hi all, this morning my sim PC decided to quit on me. In the middle of a flight it just went black. Did some testing and it seems that my good old de-lidded 4770K@4.6GHz has died after 4 years. With the 12V CPU power connected, the PC immediately shuts off after turning it on. With the CPU power disconnected, it stays on. So pretty clear that there is a short-curcuit related to the CPU. Now the big question is: Replace with a 7700K Kaby Lake or wait for a hex-core 8700K Coffee Lake? I can live with no simming until winter as I don't have much time for simming in the summer anyways. However, I'm not really sure if waiting for Coffee Lake is really worth it as the single core frequency is lower and in the end single core performance is what really matters in simming. So I would appreciate some opinions. Thanks and regards Carlo
  17. Have you tried switching the avionics on and off with a key assigned to the standard master avionics event in P3D? Switching on and off the master avionics using the switch in the VC of the Turbine Duke also didn't work for me. You have to use the standard P3D function.
  18. For all of you who are having problems with the GTN staying black and out: Assign a key to the avionics master switch under Controls. Then hit the key to toggle on the avionics master prior to starting up the aircraft from cold and dark (e.g. the Turbine Duke). That worked for me. Sometimes you have to go back and forth switching on and off the avionics master before the GTN fires up. I think it has to do with the default flight using the F22. Could also work if you save a new default flight with an aircraft for which you have switched on the master avionics. But I have to try that.
  19. Thanks for the tips, Jim! I just replicated the takeoff from EDDL with the same STAR and now it worked nicely. Must have been some form of user error on my side when I tried it the first time. I really start to like the CRJ...
  20. Just finished a flight from EDDL to EDDM. Overall I can say that it is a nice aircraft which still needs some work. But it is absolutely flyable. So no need for harsh criticism. Every major aircraft release has its problems. It will get there eventually. A couple of problems I had: 1. Right after takeoff I had a really hard time engaging the AP. I was climbing out with the throttle set to TOGA. Speed was increasing extremely fast and it was rocketing towards 200 knots. Maybe I just didn't pitch up sufficiently. The FD was giving all kinds of weird instructions even though I had selected Speed mode with speed set to V2+10, Nav with FMS1 as the nav source. I really had to battle her to get into a stable climb. Tried to hit the AP button a couple of times but in the beginning it just disengaged the AP automatically. Wouldn't stay on. 2. On the STAR into EDDM it just missed a turn in NAV mode. It just kept flying straight instead of doing a turn. I switched to Heading mode but it wouldn't follow the dialed heading. Had to disengange and re-engage the AP for it to work. After that the landing was uneventfully. Did nicely capture the localizer as well as the glideslope. Was fun flying her by hand the last 1000 feet. All in all, I think the CRJ has quite some potential. Visually she is great. The FMS and AP certainly needs some work. If you can't live with some small bugs here and there, then wait a couple of weeks before buying. But I'm confident they will get there. It's a nice add-on at a very fair price.
  21. From my point of view, I think AFS2 does have some serious potential, but it still has a looooooooong way to go. In it's current state it doesn't give me anything that I can't do in another sim (system depth, weather, ...). So for now it will stay a nice "game" to play around a little and enjoy VR, but it is far from being a serious contender to P3D or XP11. But maybe that's changing in the future.
