  1. Indeed. Just as the developers had good reason to give the Kodiak the handling characteristics that it has. Unfortunately on my setup the elevator axis is twitchy.......for "twitchy" I mean it has what I would call "oversteer" on the vertical axis. I cannot believe that the real AC is like this. The real thing would be responsive and positive depending on airspeed just as a performance car would be both responsive and positive. The twitchiness must be something to do with the rig or controller I am using as I can't imagine it would be intentional. All of my other AC's (stock and Purchased) react as I would expect them to so it's nothing to do with dirty pots or the like......using a Saitek X52 The Kodiak is a good ride otherwise and it is manageable for me but maybe my old setup lets it down. The Caravan is a pretty decent flyer for a stock AC IMO. For the kind of VFR flying I do it's a good choice.
  2. I have the Kodiak and enjoy it from time to time but.....the elevator twitchiness is a real pain. It could be my setup because I know other folks don't seem to have the issue but it seems highly unlikely to me that the massive "over steer" on the vertical axis is in any way realistic. Every other AC I have seems to be fine on that axis. My Controller is the Saitek x52. I still fly the Kodiak but the Caravan seems pretty good for a stock plane.
  3. I just tried your suggestion and I can assure you it really isn't helpful😉 Same here. S.E. UK
  4. I got the deluxe version but in the C172 steam gauge half of the GPS doesn't work for me.......a right ****er😕
  5. Humans behaviour is a product of evolution and for reasons that many can't understand has probably been beneficial in the past.........so no, not entirely bonkers. Fact and logic are ideals and as such don't exist. Best speculations at the moment and an awareness of our irrationality before we decide on our behaviour is the best we can hope for. I have a toolbox full of tools for life. Science is in there somewhere, alongside many other tools. The trick is to know which tool to use in each situation.....a time to every purpose. The tools aren't guiding principles in themselves. Fact and logic are ideals and as such don't exist. Best guesses at the moment and an awareness of our irrationality before we decide on our behaviour is the best we can hope for. Our motivations are not rational and the institution of science tends to forget this. Maybe we need to understand how humans actually feel, think and behave at the moment , understand how we operate before we tinker under the bonnet/hood.
  6. Science and tech cannot solve all of our problems. A philosophy that if applied to the exclusion of all else has no built in morality. The enlightenment and post enlightenment science came about because of a distaste for that which motivates us all i.e. emotion or the irrational. Consequently science has generally ignored or been in denial of the very thing that pollutes it. In many instances science goes wildly wrong as it contorts itself to steer around the elephant in the room. Science cries "I am rational, I am rational" .......and then it trips up on it's own irrationality because it's in denial about it's existance. This isn't an argument against science per se (nothing quite so binary), I'm just highlighting one of the problems if science becomes a guiding principle for life. ......ignoring emotion in humans and small mammals makes it easier to experiment on mice I suppose.......Is that a good thing?.....I dunno.
  7. Are there aliens walking amongst us? Are there any aliens on this forum? ........reading back through this thread I'm starting to suspect there are 😂
  8. So if possible in humans, What happens to evolution? .......the ability to change to better suit our environment, our environment is changing all the time? Stagnation?
  9. It could be argued that creativity comes from not knowing. Not being constrained by norms, tradition, dogma and cynicism......maybe it comes from a lack of experience and learning. Loss of creativity may not be a physiological thing. I'm thinking that a fear of death gives us things that we don't realise we have or maybe take for granted. Things that indirectly help keep us alive for three score and ten if we are lucky.
  10. Yes, it would cause lots of problems. The world would fill up with old minds that would probably stagnate as evolution ground to a halt......Creativity typically comes from young minds. Creativity of ideas, arts and solutions.
  11. yep,....it's what's commonly called a backlash........in this case caused by a mistrust of those that pull the strings in technology ........which manifests itself through technology............a mistrust of tech brought about by perceived dodgy practices that tech has now made possible. I didn't mention luddites? I agree with you if you are saying it's irrational but it's still happening. If you don't like the over generalised labels that the media are using then I agree but it's still happening. All I can say is that in general levels of trust with the general public are generally decreasing from what was generally considered the norm......in a general sense that is. Generally speaking a lack of trust manifests itself in the general public as a backing away from that that they mistrust.......in this case tech..........generally I agree with you that perhaps the general public might generally benefit from being more generally specific in identifying exactly what it is they generally mistrust but as those that pull the strings in or using tech are generally seen as an amorphous blob it is generally not entirely possible. 😉 Mistrusting tech (or anything) generally because of how it is sometimes used is prejudice....... but that is how humans (you and I included) operate when we don't have enough info to make sense of it any other way. To answer the OP. I use a smart phone but I have serious misgivings about how some of the tech involved is being used.... I weigh up the pros and cons. At the moment the pros outweigh the cons but I can imaging a time when that will not be the case.
  12. Draught or Bottled??? The draught beers are so dependent on how they are kept. My Favourite used to be Harveys Bitter (of Lewes, Sussex) if it was kept well but if the landlord didn't know how to keep it......yuck. Bottled beer I used to like the Czech stuff. Budvar was one that was easily available but if it was Czech it was usually good. I say "used" to like because I don't drink beer anymore😞
  13. Indeed, there may be other factors involved. .....and There is also a general backlash against technology happening. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2019/dec/28/tech-industry-year-in-review-facebook-google-amazon
  14. I was reading yesterday about a backlash against technology, the "Techlash". Dumbphones sold 400 million in 2019......in 2021 they sold 1 billion. Smartphones had global sales of 1.4 billion last year, a drop on the previous year of 12.5% https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-60763168 The tech folk involved in the smartphone industry argue that this is due to changing fashions......yeah right.😉 Trust (lack of it) is the major issue driving this particular trend.
  15. So it's not like this then? 😂🤣
  16. Folk and Folk rock was quite popular in those days, Folk Clubs popping up all over the place. I quite liked Lindisfarne, Fog on the Tyne was one of the first LP's I bought.
  17. The funny thing is that money works best if it circulates. Is this literally putting money into a hole in the ground?
  18. Not entirely my cup of tea but I do remember seeing them somewhere in the 70's. Possibly Hastings Pier or maybe Reading festival. A good gig which I thoroughly enjoyed. Liam Genockey the drummer who joined them in 89 lives in my home town I believe.
  19. To be fair the Vertical speed indicator has a fairly obvious function in the Caravan. Most of the instruments have a fairly obvious function although their significance might be a mystery to a novice, nothing a quick explaination can't sort out though. Some people find this kind of activity relatively easy. I come from a background where I have understanding of Engineering principles, basic physics and mechanics. I have good hand eye coordination, good spatial awareness. I have good understanding of verbal instructions. I always found flying on a sim easy. I probably wouldn't find the real thing quite so easy though. I think flying is easy.....but....understanding all the tech and regs is another story. When I took up sailing years ago I found the basics of making a boat go where I wanted quite simple and straightforward. The RYA senior instructor we had thought I was a ringer from the RYA assessing his instructing. He couldn't understand how I picked it up so quick. I am not unique. This guy had an aptitude and he was in a "no choice" situation. No choice, life threatening situations will make a hero of all of us. One thing I am also aware of is that in many fields of endeavour folk have an emotional interest in making that endeavour sound difficult. The use of Jargon when jargon isn't necessary is an attempt to do just that. Solicitors do it, Sailors do it, Pilots do it. Hell, I've even done it. Whoever does it (whatever) wants others to be impressed and wants respect. Some do it more than others though. This is a natural human trait. Flying while not extremely easy is not as very difficult as some would have you believe.
  20. Something to look forward to.......although it may be a while for the UK. One of my gripes about the original and subsequent series are the Klingons. Never could get my head round how a species so aggressive and stupid evolved beyond cave dwelling. Just doesn't scan.
  21. Couldn't even work out how to join......mind you I didn't try very hard😂 Anything these days should be straightforward, there is no reason on earth why it should be so user unfriendly......unless of course they want to deter the casual user who really doesn't have the time to faff around. If that is the case then they are welcome to it. The irony of calling a community "Discord" speaks volumes. >>Discord: noun lack of concord or harmony between persons or things:marital discord. disagreement; difference of opinion. strife; dispute; war. Music. an inharmonious combination of musical tones sounded together. any confused or harsh noise; dissonance.<< It's for "serious" users methinks.
  22. It's a nicely modelled world so I guess folks are just going to put stuff in it to give it depth. Inevitable really. Although I probably wont buy into this particular mod I like the idea in principle. If King Kong swiped some biplanes out of the sky on top of the Empire State Building I would go and watch.....not sure I'd pay for it though.
