  1. Busy week, but finally I got things set up today. I did a short flight over the Lake District and my conclusion is that i love this yoke. I think its the length of travel I like most plus the smoothness of it. I had an ACE B737 before this and despite its similarly sturdy appearance I found it would bind on the pitch action with the weight of my arms on the yoke adding too much friction. The engineering under the bonnet here is far superior (I've looked inside both of them) and there is none of that friction issue or pitch stickiness. Overall it has a very reassuring and realistic feeling heft. Nice job Chris!
  2. I've started a project to make it simple for people to make their own replica flight controls. It uses 3D printing and I'm hoping to engage the freeware community so that people will share hardware designs as well as software. Hopefully this first video will explain it a little better.
  3. They said VR beta testing would begin this week. It's the absence of news on that I was really referring to.
  4. Of course it would be great if you reach out in the sim and your hand grasps exactly what you expect to be there. I’m working on it...... https://authentikit.org
  5. Kudos to Chris and his team for how they handled the situation when my yoke arrived damaged due to rough handling at some point on its journey to me. I emailed Chris with some photos and without even requiring me to return the old unit first he sent me a new one. Chris organised the return and the UPS guy who brought my new one took away the damaged unit. Can't wait to get it set up now.
  6. The whole system that this flight stick is just a part of is called AuthentiKit. I'm happy to start a new thread/sub-forum on that in a more suitable place, as there are a lot of aspects to cover not just 3d printing - the rig system for mounting everything in just the right place (my impetus comes from flying VR and wanting stuff to be just where you expect it in sim) as well as discussions about sourcing hardware bits in various regions of the world. I get most of my stuff from ebay/Amazon in the UK but a mate in Australia who is test building this has found sourcing slow and difficult. Any guidance appreciated on whether Avsim would be up for a support sub-forum for it. Here's a piccy of the real thing (current alpha stick) in situ with a dev version of the quadrant, and that's the landing gear lying on the floor.
  7. I just received my second printer - Creality 6SE. Auto-bed levelling and stronger/sturdier frame. Look for a bed size of around 220mmx220mm. Getting down that first layer 0.12mm high stuck firmly to the base is like your foundation stone. Then you want a frame that's true and strong so the levels move up smoothly. The higher end trusted name in consumer level is Prusa. Buyers guide here: https://all3dp.com/1/best-cheap-budget-3d-printer-affordable-under-500-1000/ P.M. for any more or connect via https://fb.me/FlyAuthentiKit - I'm aware this is the MSFS forum and I don't want to get completely off topic.
  8. I have done all my development on an Ender 3 which cost me £170. There is a learning curve and unless you enjoy the tinkering i’d recommend something slightly more sophisticated. I print using PLA (plant based plastic) which is surprisingly strong. You can print in ABS or even carbon fibre reinforced nylon - trickier to print reliably. Print materials for this project would cost around £10. No programming required - i’m building it around a Leo Bodnar board which is instantly recognised by windows as an 8 axis 16/30 button joystick/device.
  9. I respect your candour and happy to do so. I guess it sounds too good to be true. By way of references, this was my last community project http://www.fscloudport.com which is quite well known in the Aerofly world.
  10. I have it on good authority that a Spitfire MkIX is coming to MSFS in the next few weeks. Sorry I can’t be more specific about timing or details, but with that in mind you may be interested in a flight stick like this to go with it? The aim is to have it available in time for the Spit’s launch on MSFS. I’ve been collaborating with the developer and we’re all pretty confident you’ll find it a faithful replica of the MkIX spade grip and a very sturdy piece of kit with a nice action. Bad News I’ll give you the bad news straight off. You can’t buy it - you have to print it yourself on a 3D printer. The good news is that you can’t buy it, you print it yourself and the design will be uploaded to Thingiverse for free download along with a list of the hardware you'll need. Beta testers needed soon I mention this now as I’ll be looking for beta testers for the flight stick in a couple of weeks or so. The current alpha version is getting redesigned to fine tune the pitch and roll tensions and I’d like to give it some proper testing before an official launch. Even though it uses hall sensors my goal is that if you can assemble an Ikea wardrobe or an airfix kit then you can assemble this, so that's the other thing I need beta testing. Not just Spitfires There’s actually more to this project than Spitfires - see https://authentikit.org and if you check out https://fb.me/FlyAuthentiKit I’ll be talking there about setting up a beta test group. Cheers Phil Hulme
  11. I really hope it works. I can't go back to FS2 as the world is too dead and I just don't really want to fly in the places where the nice scenery exists. No-one else makes VR work in a satisfying way IMHO and I just can't find a way to enjoy 2D simming. These guys are throwing tens of millions of $ at the job and they earned $100m in revenue in the last month - surely they can achieve the FPS performance that a handful of guys at IPACS managed. Or just buy the Germans out for a blip on the P&L.
  12. Exactly the same for me. I went with Steam though on the day they said you were eligible to join the VR beta if you owned MSFS. Steam install went fine. Good luck!
  13. I was super keen on the 3090 but for almost 2x the price it doesn't look worth it for 10-15% or so gains. Hopefully we'll see more gains with DX12 but I've shifted my focus to waiting for the 3080ti
  14. I sooo want to be in this beta. When people start being accepted do the rules allow them to say so here?
  15. “ it is absurd how much this game demands from CPUs” ... they’re gonna need to do a lot of improvement here to make this run smoothly in a Reverb. Maybe VR launches with DX12?
  16. Interesting. I guess we should be looking at the ultrahd for a comparison with the reverb, and the 3090 just puts it above 45fps which gets us to 90 with timewarpy tricks. The 3080 is just below 45fps but surely in the the next few weeks MS will have optimised a few things and shifted all the bars to the right. The increase is pretty minor then and MSFS doesn’t seem to be doing much with that extra 14GB. Extra $$ seems hard to justify here.
  17. Now I read that the 3090 (releasing today) is only giving around 10-15% performance increase over the 3080 on 4k games. That's a lot of $$$ for a small increase but that's presumably 2D. Any thoughts on whether MSFS/Reverb G2 will extract/benefit more from this mega GPU with its 24GB etc than 4k shoot em ups?
  18. I'm very interested in this question too. I've decided to go big on the 3090. My CPU is actually a bit old (Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151) so I'm resigned to CPU bottlenecking until I upgrade that, but I'm starting to read things that make me think even a 3080 is wasted.
  19. Oh, please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please . I've been watching this VR glove/hands interaction space for years now and keep getting my hopes up. Surely the time is now right. 1) Flight sim could sooo use this and you don't have to worry about hands behind your back 2) HP Reverb's extra cameras should provide good coverage and better than LeapMotion 3) Quest/Oculus is pushing it, Valve says its in their code as an option Haptic feedback would be nice via gloves, but hands alone would be very nice - with an option to disable interaction with certain controls so you can use a physical yoke/quadrant.
  20. I got my G1 late 2019. Recently I put it to one side a bit and went back to my Odyssey which is also a good headset. Last night I powered up the G1 again and was in awe of the clarity. Probably the worst thing about the G1 for me was the nose cavity which presses hard on my (obviously oversized) nose! After that the chunky cable is a pain. So, if they sort both of those and give a better sweet spot and better audio it will be fantastic. I'm also excited for what the arrival of the 3080/3090 will bring to the VR world. We're about to have the brake horse to drive really high end headsets with FOV as well as clarity. PiMax never had the $$$ to build a great wide FOV headset, but it can be done and now there will be a customer base of people with the kit to drive it.
  21. I'm trying to get this ready for the launch of MSFS in VR. At present I only fly in Aerofly FS2 which has great VR, so the "starter kit" is built around the FS2's DR400. I'll need to rejig things a bit for the MSFS configuration of the Robin. Also working on a Spitfire MkIX kit in conjunction with a team who are making the MkIX for MSFS. http://authentikit.org/ If you want to see video of it in action go to the FS2 forum.
  22. I'm still convinced I'll need the 3090/3080ti to get the most out of this. It's about to be announced and from the photos I've seen this thing is massive. I expect I'll need a larger PSU. Also I'm a bit confused about 2 more things. https://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/joao-silva/nvidia-rtx-3090-pictured-rtx-3000-series-prices-leak/ 1) Molex connectors - does anyone who understands this better than me know if something new is needed here? They're talking about a new extra large molex 2) USB-C : So the Reverb G2 needs USB C doesn't it? I believe you can get a PC card for that or a high end GPU like the 3090 will include one. Is that right? Anything else anyone can think of that I'll need to get the 3090 running. My PC is from Jan 2016 - my first gaming PC, bought purely to run my Oculus CV1.
  23. Different league. I have Reverb G1, Oculus Rift and Samsung Odyssey. Reverb G1 was great but needed the refinements that are hopefully coming in the G2
