  1. Tried shortcutting the checklist, but look where I ended up 😀 Fortunately the Fire handles do actually do the job. Cheers

    Very Old SciFi

I remember as a kid my nana took my brother and I into a city cinema and we saw Valley of the Gwangi Stop motion dinosuars and cowboys in a circus, as a kid I thought it was great 🙂 Also last night watched an old Sci-Fi / Horror film, it was an English Hammer film, Quatermass and the Pit I thought it held up pretty good, the picture quality was really great and the movie itself still held up, would have been pretty amazing back in the 1960s. Cheers
  3. Hey Folks,😁 We'll start with the SAAB S340, many a times I've flown around the outback towns of Australia in these noisy beasts. REX is the company and grew from flying cigars (flown in those as well, just a curtain between the passenagers and pilot and 2 rows of seats) to their fleet of Saabs and i think they also have 737s now too. I've had a few close calls as well, all weather related, and a few years back they had a prop fall off one of them. Tthis one could probably use a wash. It's also modded with a PBR model and GTN750 Next up is the B350i, this one has the Blackhawk PT-6-67A performance mods package applied. Now my racing Spitfire, contra rotational prop and tuned for 3000 HP, very easy to blow the engine in this beasty. Finally the PC12, heavily modded and with 17 additonal liveries, this plane is great fun to fly. Grabbed a screen shot just as the lightning started, check the weather radar rain reflections at the bottom of the pic, was a pretty wild flight, I could barely keep the plane in the air. Yeah I coulda gone up above the weather but where's the fun in that ? Cheers
  4. So I installed ASP3D as an update to my "Active Sky for P3Dv4" on the weekend and noticed my aircraft I had configured with the AS WX gauge to pop open on a key press, were no longer working. And a read of the docs showed the AS crew had depreciated adding the gauge via the panel.cfg 😞 Instead the gauge was being made available for all aircraft as a menu item and the ASP3D add-on.xml includes a gauges path. Pro: available for all aircraft. Con: no longer just a button push away. But turns out there is a way to add back to the panel config, as the menu item is added via the missionpanels.cfg located in the ActiveSkyP4 (or P5) folder. I just needed the call to the gauge as used in the missionpanels.cfg and then drop it into my panel.cfgs Then I thought... I wonder if there is anything else I can globally add as a menu item via the ASP3D missionpanels.cfg "Groundhandling V6 addon" was a good addon candidate for having globally available as a menu item so I added the config to the ActiveSkyP4\missionpanels.cfg and yes ! All aircraft now have a menu item for "Groundhandling V6 addon", which is great 😁 because I wasn't looking forward to adding "Groundhandling V6" to each and every aircraft. Now I can leisurely taxi around at whatever speed I set, plus have steerable pushback with ground crew voices. Cheers
  5. Nope, no precipitation effects on the windows. Engine Mod: PFX: https://orbxdirect.com/freeware McCoy: https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?searchid=93425485 https://simviation.com/1/preview?fileId=53838&path=McCoy+Ground+Landing+Effect+v4.1B%2F
  6. Hi Folks, I have both the F1 GTN 650 and 750 which I've installed into a lot of aircraft. And now that the F1 GTN has ceased I can see a need for migration over to the RXP versions which I have purchased. But it's going to take time to migrate and my question is can both be installed and used concurrently so I can migrate over each aircraft at a leisurely pace. Cheers
  7. Hi Folks, This is based around P3D 4.5 and the F1 GTN750, so if you're runnng v4.5 and have the F1 GTN 750... If you're thinking this is for MSFS then no joy. The Caranado PC12 for P3D is a prerequisite as well as ASN, Roland's Radar, F1 GTN750, PFX and McCoy effects. The above said I do have P3D v5, but it's a slow burn build and will be quite a few weeks before I can update ASN, migrate to the RXP and perform all the other little bits that would be needed to run it up on P3D v5. If you're still interested PM me and I'll get back to you noting it's be a few weeks due to life in general limiting my time. Cheers
  8. Unfortunately the developer of the F1 version has moved on... There is the RXP version still being updated, and the RXP support forum is right here on AVSIM. And according to Milviz the WX Advantage Radar is broken because of bugs in P3D v5, and although LM will likely fix said bugs, it'll be too late as Milviz has already moved on themselves. But then again Milviz does build for for the Military and if LM fixes the problems the fixes might flow through to the WX Advantage Radar anyway. Speculation on my behalf but you never know. Cheers
  9. Yeah, shaders are very version specific and the showcased one happens to be written for 4.5.13 I did read there was a v5 version in the making, don't know what happened with it though. Cheers
  10. Fully loaded as in fully loaded with the the following, Community mod pack Next Gen engine mods McCoy & PFX Effects PBR exterior model GTN 750 Embed the Roland Weather Radar into the EX500 GPS VC floodlight mod 18 distinct coding bugs resolved in gauges and model xml 17 additional liveries Radars, this is the ASN WX gauge as a popout. The Roland embeded in the EX500 A couple of new liveries Cheers
  11. I have it and fly reguarly in P3D v4.5. It's Ok, I'd agree it's not as crisp as I was hoping for and some parts are overexposed, all boils down to the source of the ortho I suppose and the commercial costs of obtaining, the reason I bought it is because there is really only one season in Florida and it's an interesting area what with the space ports and shuttle landing airport, finally there's that song mentioning the keys and I thought it would be cool to fly. Otherwise it's certainly nice and frame rates are pretty good bearing in mind I look at achiving a 30 Hz vsync in all situations, which I do manage including around the city areas via several different config profiles, e.g. autogen draw distance max for when it can, and less for those large city areas. Takes approx. 80 GB of storage and it's a pretty big area. If you've tree enhancements they will be used (e.g. TerraFlorra v2). If you've autogen enhancements (e.g. Buildings HD) the HD roofing will be used). A few pics from the area. This would have been a max distance draw high level flight. This would be an area where I would have changed down a gear (profile) for a reduced draw distance. Pic showing CPU and GPU use, that was back when I was running a 2700X and 1070Ti The keys This pic would have been around the time of my Win7->10, 5800X and 3080Ti hardware upgrade. I'd say go for it, it's a nice flying area with plenty of airports, some almost next door to each other. Cheers
  12. Hey @okupton I don't actually have Envtex. What I do have is "REX 4 Texture Direct with Soft Clouds" and some custom cloud textures. The clouds are a specific look achieived via a custom shader, the thread below has additional info, noting a powerful GFX card is needed. And I've you want to trial the cloud shader itself (for 4.5 HF3) I've included the current updated version in the spoiler, look to the thread for hints on how to use. The shader name is "Cloud.fx", be sure backup your own prior to trialing this one. Cheers https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/613272-flat-clouds-in-p3d/ You can end up with some pretty nice clouds.
  13. Yes it does. A couple of things to be aware of. The below entry is needed in the prepar3d.cfg [USERINTERFACE] // Set UIHardwareAcceleration from True (the default) to False to enable reshade use. UIHardwareAcceleration=False I rename the reshade dll to d3d11.dll to avoid issues, e.g. I use Action! to record which crashes if the dll name is the default of dxgi.dll You'll need the reshade package that includes addon support, "ReShade_Setup_5.2.2_Addon.exe" I choose to download all the shader addons when a new reshade version is installed, then cull out those I don't want, shaders end up in ~\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\reshade-shaders. And then you set where you want screen grabs to go, frame counter, hotkeys etc. Have fun 😀 Cheers There are some fairly wacky shaders in the various packages, tiltshift is interesting one for that miniature model look. One of the more wacky ones.
  14. Unfortunately depth map access in P3D is partial meaning the standard AO filters or any other filter that relies on a depth map cannot at present be used. Probably relates to the engine design given LM haven't added AO as yet, that said it should be possible as I used AO filters in Flight Sim World successfully. The shader tool used is Reshade and the filter is the AstrayFX\Depth Cues with the No Depth Map option enabled. Probably best to see the effect by opening each pic in a new tab and then swapping between. Cheers Filter Not Applied: Filter Applied: Filter Not Applied: Filter Applied:
  15. What FluffyTop means, is those who have recently updated their NVidia GFX driver will run into problems because there is a known issue with the last couple of NVidia driver releases and as yet the issue has not been resolved by NVidia. https://www.avsim.com/forums/forum/436-the-prepar3d-forum/ Also replacement water textures might help. https://www.togaprojects.com/envtex Water Detailed ocean, inland and tropical water textures with reduced mosaic repetition looking Realistic wave animations I have replacement water textures in my v4.5, Off the NZ South Island East Coast And more tropical textures.
  16. In v4.5 my 8 GB 1070Ti would max out it's memory in many instances, particuarly where there was a lot of PBR involved. Once up in the air mem use would drop down to the typical level as shown in the pic (4.5 HF3). I've only just begun to play around with v5 and it as yet doesn't have the expansions my V4.5 has atm, but so far it's been a little higher in mem use.
  17. What is the specific scenery name and it's link ? Maybe there is corruption...
  18. Indeed when I first saw the livery I though must have taken a while to do, but it does look pretty great. As to, The PBR model comes from this link but it's a bit broken and needs some fixing once downloaded. The pic livery is from this link but again is a bit broken and needs some fixing. There is an engine mod available in the AVSIM library. Otherwise general internet searchs are how I've been finding links, some are good, some are dead, you take the good with the bad, and there is the PC-12 Carenado forum right here on AVSIM. There is a community mod package (which is not anything to do with what I'm doing) and I believe if you msg Bert Pieke he'll point you in the direction needed. The fixes I spoke about are things I've been resolving myself in both the model and gauges. The stuff I'm working on is not quite there yet but is getting close, if you remind me in a couple of weeks I should be nearly done. Cheers
  19. Still enjoying the PC-12, fixes are up to number 20 (in categories), even the manual boost lever has a click sound now (was previously slient due to a coding bug). Just a few more to go and logging will be empty of errors for this aircraft 🙂 Of course the last ones are always the most difficult... but getting there. Found a new livery too, quite an interesting one at that. Cheers PS - one more, this one is showing the GPU and CPU loading as well as the 30 Hz vsync. GPU memory use is quite low, that said it is completely possible to max out the memory use, however I choose to not apply such a high mem use tune.
  20. Heh... but it does come with a little black magic. If you use a config profile P3D makes a sort of copy of the main P3D config and places it into ~\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Files The copy is a partial config file based off a "default" P3D config. What this means, is if you've extensively tuned your P3D config, your tuning won't be applied to the profile config and you'd need to manually update the file to put your tuning in place. However if you then modify the profile via the P3D UI you again loose any custom tuning. The trick is to never edit a config profile via the UI, instead use a text editor like notepad++ Something I learned when P3D seemed to be doing it's own magical thing. Cheers
  21. While it's true LM do sell to the airforces of the world and make a lot of income doing so. The sim itself is an approved and licensed for commercial use product and is used in practically all small / medium commercial flight simulators. e.g. https://melbourne.flightexperience.com.au/pages/experiences I remember the somewhat desponsive feeling when MS wound up dev on FSX, and the uplift when I found out LM took over and output P3D. Then fell back into despondancy when the pricing was announced, which initally was clearly aimed at commercial enterprises and way beyond my affordabilty. Then along came the Academic version, at just the right price point and feature set to be a viable replacement for FSX, and here we are 🙂 Also the thing about commecial use software is change is often undesirable in the short term. Change brings additional training and documentation requirements. Change would have a need for acceptance testing and potential recifications in both the software itself and in third party components. Change brings downtime that needs to be minimimised as it prevents the product and it's users earning income the business needs to survive and flourish. Essentually in the commercial world change brings unknowns that have to be costed and budgeted for, meaning change does happen, just not at pace that would overwhelm the available resources. The firm I work for releases software updates almost weekly, however customers typically update in 5 year intervals, usually when there are hardware refreshes or major operating system updates are forced upon them. LM's airforce side of things produces sims like the below pic, I believe the package is in the 10 ~40 million $$ range in todays $$ If a company make in excess of 400 million $$ a year selling and supporting these beasts I would think they would likely be continuing such product advancement. https://aviationphotodigest.com/raaf-the-next-generation/
  22. 4.5HF3 for me. I do have 5.3 and am in the throws of building a test rig to trial it all out. I've a highly modified config as a base and separate custom configs for high load situations. Also run custom shaders for the look I desire. I certainly never delete the main config itself since it's only a ini file really, that said I do back it up prior to making changes I want to test with, just in case I manage to stuff it all up and need to revert and start again. But for the most it's a super smooth 30 hz (fps) vsync all the way and in some areas 60 hz (fps) is easily achievable. The trick is to ensure your hardware is up to the task and that means the more powerful the hardware the better the operation. Trees as far as the eye can see 🙂
  23. Is MSFS a product sold and licensed for commercial use ? If not then what else is it but a toy, a nice shiny one at that, but never the less still a toy. Cheers
  24. So this weekend I thought I would spend a bit of time with the Carenado PC12. I've had it installed for a while and flown it a few times but haven't investigated for any fixes it might have needed (because practically every Carenado aircraft needs a few fixes - luckily the files are not encrypted in these releases). Well, I spent Saturday morning reviewing and so far I'm up to 14 fixes, with still a few more to go. First was a PBR exterior model fix, because the PBR mod I'm using came with incorrect radius and bounding box values making the aircraft fully zoomed out in prevew and exterior views. The others were, in the majority, syntax errors in gauges, things like no whitespace separating values, typos on var names, and just general errors like 0 == f{ when the code should say 0 == if{ There were also config issues like duplicated sections and values, and after seeing some of these errors it makes me wonder if there is ever any peer code review over at Carenado. Anyway just a few more fixes to go and it will be at a good enough level for myself with regards to restored functionality and sounds etc. Cheers Reloaded the aircraft while testing a fix. Flying into one of my fav airports NZGS
  25. Alabeo - Carenado, two words that mean much the same thing. And I think you'll find a number of Alabeo aircraft for sale at the Carenado website. For the Carenado - Alabeo group of aircraft there are often mods that improve the guts of what is typcially a good looking aircraft. I have the C421 Golden eagle and it's not in the class of A2A, that said there are some advanced physics improvements available that make it nicer. https://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=221287&Name=&FileName=&Author=&CatID=root Another fav of mine is the steam gauge version of the Carenado C208B with an improved flight model mode, PBR textures and a custom set of sounds mapping. PBR can be found here https://www.liveries.nz Sorry I cannot adivse on the LKPR airport, but the free LWSK is pretty good. https://orbxdirect.com/product/lwsk Cheers
