  1. I really love flying the Lancair Legacy, it's fast, reliable (but with consequenses for mistreatment), supports hypoxia and the GTN750, plus has a great set of sounds and functions. Here's a selection flying through the desert regions of the USA. Cheers
  2. There are also new DSR-DL screen modes - aka Dynamic Super Resolution - DL, which stands for "Deep Learning", an Ai screen mode enabling more performance with great aesthetics. https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/nvidias-deep-learning-dynamic-super-resolution-tech-is-out-now-heres-how-to-enable-it A few pics: Cheers
  3. Hey Folks, Most Motherboard manufacturers have released new BIOS supporting the AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors. https://www.asus.com/news/qccufpijbaobykxo/ While tidying up my Win10 update last weekend, I checked the ASUS website for BIOS updates and found a new version just released. And that new version adds support for the Ryzen 5000 series processor to my Asus X370-Pro motherboard, a motherboard I bought in 2017 when the Ryzen 1700 was brand new. A quick check of the AMD website showed an also just released update to the X370 chipset driver package. And a search of the fav computer stores showed the Ryzen 5800X on special for $140.00 off the usual price, in stock and ready to pick up. So after a short trip down the road I'm the new owner of a Ryzen 5800X. Dropped it in (after BIOS & chipset update), tuned to SMT off, an overclock to 4.775 Ghz with CPU VDD voltage of 1.3125, then benchmarked at ~46% faster than my original Ryzen 1700 CPU. So new OS (Win10 ~ was Windows7), new CPU (Ryzen 5800X) and GFX card (an Asus 8030Ti @ $200.00 off the previous usual price) - just like having a new computer and P3D and every other application I use has never performed better. This'll tide me over for a few years till the next round of kit updates are available, it'll be a new motherboard by then. One thing that does happen is the TPM is always enabled with this BIOS/CPU where as previously it was possible to disable, a nod to MS and Windows 11 requirements I assume. Cheers
  4. I wonder if it's based upon the Reshade v5 release ?
  5. Hey Folks, thanks I'm certainly enjoying being able to push up those GFX settings to levels beyond my previous GFX card and I also found a new additional piece of kit yesterday. While tiding up my Win10 update I checked the Motherboard BIOS and found a new version just released. And that new version adds support for the Ryzen 5000 series processor to my Asus X370-Pro motherboard. A quick check of the AMD website showed also a just released update to the X370 chipset driver package. And a search of the fav computor stores showed the 5800X on special for $140.00 off the usual price in stock and ready to pick up. So after a short trip down the road I'm the new owner of a Ryzen 5800X. Dropped it in (after BIOS & chipset update), tuned to my standard SMT off with an overclock to 4.7 Ghz, then benchmarked at ~20% faster than my previous CPU. So new OS, GFX card and CPU - just like having a new computer and P3D and every other applciation I use has never performed better. This'll tide me over for a few years till the next round of kit updates are available, it'll be a new motherboard by then. One thing that does happen is the TPM is always enabled with this BIOS/CPU where as previously it was possible to disable, a nod to MS and Windows 11 requirements I assume. Cheers
  6. A few more pics from my GFX card update. And I found a couple of new screen modes. Dynamic Super Resolution - DL, which stands for "Deep Learning", an Ai screen mode enabling more performance with great aesthetics. https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/nvidias-deep-learning-dynamic-super-resolution-tech-is-out-now-heres-how-to-enable-it Interesting clouds over 11S In the area around Skopje Airport I'm flying the Lancair at the far end. A few Ai aircraft from around the area. Cheers
  7. Haha, my first car was $700.00 AU A truly ready to fall apart HR Holden sedan. Cheers
  8. Tuning for my new GFX card and I can still max it out 🙂 I'm sure the promised next gen will be 2x to 3x even better... That said it does take a bit more effort to do so than my older card - a 1070Ti. Pic shows 4361 mem use, but have taken it up to ~10000 and it's oh so easy to get to 100% GPU use, I am enjoying it. Cheers 11S in the background Walter Sutton's farm USA Taking the 737 out for a spin.
  9. Ok then, would you happen to have the last version 5 released ? Basically so I can compare the 2 and see what regressed in the v6.1
  10. I guess expectations are part of it, for instance I already had a stable vsync'd fps, but couldn't ramp up the GPU settings further because the 1070 couldn't cut it, but now I can and my video work also makes great use. Cheers And I do have the iFly series.
  11. Just a few extra shadows ? well, when there are thousands of trees it's more than just a *few* extra shadows and I can certainly drive the GPU to max%. Actually those shadows and dynamically lit clouds *are* 2 x extra steps up, practically everything else is at the max already. And I don't mean just slider max, I mean custom tuned config files to the max for things like curve alignment, shadow cascades and draw distances, cloud layering, texture resolution, autogen trees and buildings above and beyond the max slider levels plus many other tuned settings. And yep I don't have EA running because I'm running v4.5. Additionally I use the cuda cores for Neat Video rendering, check it out, It's an amazing piece of software for video cleanups, although even with all that GPU power it still took some 8 hours to render out just over an hour of video. https://www.neatvideo.com/ Cheers
  12. I disagree, I went from a 1070Ti to a 3080Ti and I've been able to run with dynamic cloud shaders and vegetation shadows, two things I've not been able to run with previously except in the barest of trees or clouds. The 3080Ti is quite the powerhouse, but of course Rob's remark of up and coming GFX cards being 2~3x the performance of todays top cards would be even better 🙂 Then again in ~3 years the same will happen again. Cheers
  13. Could be looking for the exe. Easy way to test is to create the P3D folder path, drop a text file in and rename the text file to prepar3d.exe (making sure Windows display file extenions is enabled). I often do such on my own installer builds, e.g. read the registry for the path and then confirm by looking for a named exe. Cheers
  14. Just be aware Terraflora v2 has a flaw in the "darker mode" trees - it's missing tree textures which displays as areas with no trees and occurs if you've chosen the darker looking tree set. Raised the issue @ Orbx, seemingly acknowledged and subsequently ignored. https://forum.orbxdirect.com/topic/211734-terra-flora-v2-package-issues/
  15. My final flight testing pics at Alice Springs Airport Australia. Love this little plane, especially now that I've fixed its issues. Time to move onto testing another plane 🙂 Cheers There's a lot of nothing in the outback of Australia. Known as the Red Desert. And Alice Springs AP Cheers
  16. Thanks very much, another simmer also offered. I did notice quite a lot of issues in 6.1 though. Looks to be mostly regressions, e.g. from simple spelling and grammar mistakes in gauges that's shown correctly in the manual, to many gauge faults and some model faults. For example the presurisation gauge is barfed. Would that be the case with the 6.1 release you have ? Cheers
  17. It's being discussed in the thread below. https://prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6312&t=143897 Re: P3D v5.3 - Road Traffic - FPS Drops Post by Rob McCarthy » Fri Dec 03, 2021 6:44 pm Hello, The "Freeways Only" setting is equivalent to the default road traffic behavior with previous versions. "All Roads" is a new setting for 5.3 which spawns road traffic on all road vectors instead of only ones marked as freeways which will lead to a larger performance hit. Regards, Rob McCarthy Prepar3D® Core Lead
  18. Hi Dave, yes I certainly am. The C140 is my fav flyer atm. Cheers
  19. I couldn't live without the 4096 grass and I've never noticed it to be a big hitter on frames or VRam. In anycase the Installer should give the option to install Summer, Winter or Default. There is a thread on Orbx you might find of use. https://forum.orbxdirect.com/topic/201404-ground-textures/?tab=comments#comment-1720021 Cheers
  20. Hey Folks, For those interested I've finished my testing of the fix for the disappearing pilots on takeoff (wheeled version of C140). The fix can be downloaded from here. Cheers Some Pics
  21. Sigh... Honestly I really don't give a rats... But lets check the survey on the board. We polled 200% of sim users and survey results are in !! Cheers
  22. I would suggest that would be true, however likely it would also be parity up to the limitations of the system. Cheers
  23. Actually I'm just killing a little time while awaiting an endodontic treatment. Feel free to look it up :-) Cheers
