  1. Users will be able to take on maintenance jobs in the latest update to Career Mode in Flight Sim World. Dovetail Games announced the update, which adds a number of adjustments to missions, earlier this evening. As well as bug fixes, a variety of new features have been added including maintenance jobs, increased potential numbers of passengers and weights of cargo for some jobs, and changes to weather conditions for some missions.

    In honor of it snowing a few inches in Savannah today (something it only does about once a couple decades), I took a short flight from Savannah (KSAV) to Hilton Head (KXHD) tonight in weather set to heavy snow (only snow setting available right now) in the Cub. Tower would not give me clearance to taxi to runway as it was IFR only so I had to ignore them. Same thing when landing at KXHD, no clearance to land as it was IFR only. I did get a route to parking though after landing. Aside from those things, it was a cool flight and took a little getting used to in heavy snow.

  10. I'm going to place this inquiry here because it is the platform I use. Notwithstanding, the issue may be globally encumbering to pairing Flight simming platforms. (Note, I've also posted this in LM forum) "SKY TEXTURES". I'm curious as to how many of us have invested and use ENVTEX or REX Sky Textures. Bear with me. Lately, I've notice some interesting effects on performance with these enhancement textures(programs). In particular, spikes in CPU usage when certain sky textures package are in use. Today, as I write this, I'm experiencing 100% CPU usage and blurry textures despite making any adjustment to the UI settings within P3Dv4.1 (specs: I7 4790K, oc to 4.6 voltage at 1.260- GTX 1080). Using Envtex/ENVDIR with sky setting of "Random" I flew out of FSDT KMEM for AS EDDF. I've experience long texture loading times as I switch views and the CPU spikes and ultimately flat-lines at 100%. On this flight, under the random ENVTEX setting, i'm seeing a sky set for the first time (in all my flights using ENVTEX/EVNDIR). Oddly, and to the point, as I continue my track east with the sun setting on my tail and blackness befalls, the CPU usage dropped dramatically to 65% usage. Thus suggesting that the sky, now black, no long contain textures that may induce high CPU usage. Now, I love ENVTEX/ENVDIR and by no means am I pulling down the application. ENVTEX/ENVDIR is not the only time I've witness this. I had an identical challenge with REX4 which was then resolved by earlier versions of ENVTEX or and the Free Sky Texture Packages. So I'm putting this out there for us to investigate and mitigate the potential threatening sources(s) so we can get back to flight. Share you thoughts and experience thank you Keino333/usaboy
  11. The bar that DTG has set for default GA aircraft in Flight Sim World, albiet some minor issues, is set pretty high.. When they release the new biz jet they are talking about, I'm just curious how it will be. Can't wait to see it...
  12. I suspect the sale price will win over some more purchasers... like me! Sorry I'm so shallow! Anyhow the download went well from Steam last night and I began the initial lessons. Impressive graphics (which we all know about by now). The Cub seemed to handle as this layman might expect. The install defaulted to mid high on the gfx sliders. OK until I switched to an external view on the lesson - SLideshow!! It seems reducing the scenery slider did the trick so far. Or was it my machine catching up with all the graphics? Should I have waited a few minutes? All lessons completed, just need to complete the 3 hours free flight. Done one mission too - deadstick the Cherrytree into Liverpool. Any tips for what slider has the most impact on FPS and smoothness please? Win7 64 bit ultimate i7 950 @3.06GHz 24Gb RAM 2Gb nvidia GTX960 HDD only about 25% full :) In it for the long haul now - pun intended - waiting for any tubeliners LOL!

  15. .... A few more screenshots, taking into account the latest FSW Update 13. Changes have been made to the PBR based lighting and the TrueSky weather engine. ...whilst the Dovetail development team are progressing really well, It is just my own opinion, but I feel Reshade is still needed to enhance the overall look of the Sim. An updated Reshade Preset is available here to take into account the recent changes made by Dovetail. Just in case you like what you are seeing LOL !! Regards, Pete Beeby.

  17. I really wanted to believe that FSW was not going to be another Train Simulator. I did, until today. If FSW is still in Early Access, that means it's not complete. If it's not complete, you would generally have the entire development team working to finish the development process. If you are producing and selling DLC, then you are no longer in the Early Access stage. No, I will not accept some excuse about developing DLC alongside the title, the title is not complete. No, I will not support this terrible business model, and no, I will no longer support FSW or Dovetail Games. My positive review on Steam has been edited and changed to a Not Recommended along with an exact explanation why. No, just no.

Just for a bit of fun, here's a comparison between the Just Flight Piper PA28R Arrow III (or IV or whatever) in FSW and in P3D V4, and purely for the comedy value of alluding to that 'Arrow to the Knee' meme from Skyrim, I took this particular Arrow to Kneeland Airport in California. And you thought this comedy stuff was just thrown together eh? Some things to note: FSW is on medium settings with no AI traffic because my PC struggles a bit with it at the moment and will continue to do so until I put more RAM into it (next week), and it is apparent that FSW is not optimised properly yet since it is rubbish in full screen mode and shouldn't be if P3D V4 can run like this, because P3D V4 is on the other hand on pretty high settings and has Active Sky and Cloud Art in there and also has Terraflora in there as well and the AI traffic is up high too and all the fancy HDR lighting options are ticked. For performance reference, the computer has a ASUS Strix RX480 GPU with 8Gb of DDR5 RAM, the processor is a Kaby Lake 7th generation i5, the motherboard is a ASUS Prime Z270P with 4Gb of Corsair Vengeance DDR4 RAM on it, both sims get about 45 FPS on the noted settings with that hardware at present, but performance is brought down somewhat by FRAPS. Other things worth noticing: The lighting in general on the textures in FSW is better because of all that PBR malarkey, but the PA-28R does not have internal objects casting shadows in the VC (yet), which are there in P3D, although FSW does have directional lighting affecting the surfaces, so things like the ambient light falling on the panel do look better than in P3D and FSX, but those large moving shadows certainly are missed in the FSW version at the moment as they do add a lot to the feeling of being there:
  19. Hi everyone, I'd like to create this thread in order to regroup all the ideas this community has to improve FSW so DTG devlopment team can see all our expectations on one page. Having a team listening to the Flight Sim Community for creating the perfect sim is rare so I hope this thread will be useful for all of us. In order to keep this readable, your posts can contain 2 categories: - small improvments that could be implemented rapidly - big and long-term improvments (real world weather etc...) Please dont comment or discuss too much, keep it simple and readable, give your ideas that's all. Let DTG Team judge what is worth it and what can be done or not. I'll start: Short ones : _rain sound could be louder to feel and fear the elements :) (or be adjustable, the environment slider is currently not that efficient) _make a " visual smoke effect" if you look at the wings from the cockpit when flying through clouds to simulate the plane is REALLY in it. _make ATC speak faster like in real life _ Head anticipation in turns when taxi and flying (like in XP Realistic addon) Big ones : _ a "FSPassengers like" feature whith passengers screaming in turbulence (make us avoid the clouds) _Windows Voice Recognition for ATC would be awesome like in Tower3DPro _ ATC speaking with accents depending on which continent or country we fly
  20. I read some interesting text following an article Simul had with "80 Level" (in blue below). The next major update from Simul Software for trueSKY (4.1 -> 4.2) will introduce multiple 3D layers and do away with the 2D layers. FSW Update 8 added a single 3D layer. I believe FSW update 9 added a 2D high altitude layer (seen in Fair Weather). The current release of trueSKY is limited to 1x3D and 1x2D layer. All of that changes for 4.2 which also brings us closer to real world weather capabilities. I'm expecting 4.2 to be integrated into FSW at some point, the formal release for this product is September 2017. Certainly a lot of what Dovetail want to achieve with FSW weather will require the 4.2 update. With 4.2 also comes a bunch of improvements - more variety and better lighting etc. All of this wets appitite for the next FSW release - I certainly hope this has 4.2 included but if it's not in Update 11 then hopefully it should arrive soon. "How do layers work with the clouds? In trueSKY up till now (version 4.1) we’ve had two layers, one 2D cloud layer at high altitude (e.g. cirrus clouds), and a 3D layer. TrueSKY 4.2 (released September 2017, but available for testing now) represents a departure: now we have multiple 3D cloud layers of different types – there’s no set limit – that can overlap, covering a 600km visible volume around the camera. In 4.2, there are no 2D cloud layers – we’ve found a way to render cirrus and other thin, high-altitude cloud formations volumetrically. And instead of repeating horizontally, you can have completely different weather in different parts of your game-world: you can have a clear sky overhead, but a gathering storm in the distance.
