About Me

  • About Me
Retired (2016) after 40+ years in various cockpits both fixed and rotary wing. Enjoy flying as much now as when I started. 17 years on rotary wing. Did nine years forest fire suppression in the CL215 & Cessna 310 birddog; that flying was indeed interesting. Regional airline before that - SF340 & HS748. Last 7 years federal aviation safety inspector and gov't pilot. For the most part a blue collar pilot career, lol. P3dV5, X-P11 & DCS.

    ORBX.

Were ORBX to consider doing installers for V6 and say charge $5 each they would do well.
  2. If flying in Canada is an interest well SimAddOns has Canadian airports from coast to coast and into the high arctic that are great. I have coupled this with photo type scenery from FC Scenery and it brings things to life quite nicely. just wish there were more aircraft with V6 installers. Currently using majestic Dash 8.
  3. Have a look at the AMD offerings. After being with NVidia for many years last year i did a rebuild of my system and for video went with the AMD 7900xt 20gig. Very happy with it. Was considerably less money than the competition. Also for cpu i chose the amd 7800x3d. Hadn't had an amd build in decades. Had it for a year now. I'm pleased with this combination. Just a suggestion to investigate if you hold off till next year doing a rebuild.
  4. The only aircraft I have installed to V6 is the Majestic Dash 8 as it has a V6 installer. i would like to have a few high end aircraft such as PMDG installed to V6 but I actually know next to nothing about doing the installs. That said i will have a look at the video, thanks.
  5. I'm retired now after flying for 40 years. Even if the radar available in MSFS is kind of mickey mouse i still like it. I remember when the radars in the rw were pretty basic compared to what is around today but they had the h@@l beat out of having nothing. So I am good with what JF & black Square is offering and perhaps PMDG in their about to be released 777. Adds to the immersion for me.
  6. Been holding off buying this but the latest release looks good plus a discount doesn't hurt. Does it have Weather radar (such as it is in MSFS)?
  7. May be a speed restriction in the event window heat is U/S. Window is "stronger" with heat. I flew the HS748 about 25 years ago and seem to remember something along these lines.
  8. Actually for P3dV6 Canada is very well represented with addon airports from coast to coast (from SimAddOns) and into the arctic. Couple this with the photo type scenery from FC Scenery and weather from ASN and it is a very good sim.
  9. pmplayer: I agree just how nice the JF aircraft, 146 & F28 are to fly. First JF aircraft I have bought in years and am very pleased with them. Also pleased with the support from JF when I have questions.
  10. When you operate a lot in that environment you get to know what the aircraft can do. Plus i spent +/- 1000 hours in the right seat with some great teachers so when i made capt I had a decent foundation.....plus I got another 100 +/- hours of good line indoc. Crosswind limits in flight manuals are usually mentioned as "demonstrated crosswind". Should be mentioned that the company had an excellent safety record. You pick and choose your days with doing this.
  11. In the rw sometimes you may wish to be off the centerline. Example a slippery runway(ice, packed snow, lots of standing water) in a strong crosswind it can be advantageous to be off the centerline into the wind. Smaller communities in the north or the arctic for example have only one runway and no shortage of wind. North of the tree line in relatively flat terrain the wind can be strong but at least somewhat steady. One of my last trips north flying a SF340 the wind was 50' to the right gusting to 48 knots onto a 6000' runway. Moving a little off centerline into the wind gave some wiggle room. Definitely a solid arrival but no passenger complaints.
  12. Is uninstall required for the previous version?
  13. I have V6. I have SimAddOns Canadian airports from coast to coast including the high arctic, ASN wx, FC Scenery for several provinces and the majestic Dash 8. it imho is very good. Wish there were more add-on aircraft. Waiting patiently for Xtremes Lear Jets. Pleased with it.
  14. In the later 1980s i flew 4500+ tours over Niagara Falls back when i was still flying rotary. Always enjoyed flying tourists as they were always happy campers. Interestingly it was surprising just for so many it was their first time ever experiencing flight, either fixed or rotary wing.
  15. SimAddOns has CYYJ. It's very good. I have been a customer of theirs for a long time. They have coast to coast and into the high arctic for Canada. I'm very pleased with SimAddOns airports.
