January 5, 200917 yr ...mmh..is it too late to ask for altitude assigned also in meters? (Useful if you fly across Russia, China, and some other countries).Regards.
January 5, 200917 yr To Alias in LIPZI think foreign registered airliners have conversion tables or altimeters with dual read out to cope with flying in Russian and Chinese airspace.I'm pretty sure that when I did a jump seat ride from Amtsterdam to Hong Kong a while back the crew re set the instruments to be in agreement with metric flight levels. This was over both Russia and Tibet.
January 7, 200917 yr To Alias in LIPZI think foreign registered airliners have conversion tables or altimeters with dual read out to cope with flying in Russian and Chinese airspace.I'm pretty sure that when I did a jump seat ride from Amtsterdam to Hong Kong a while back the crew re set the instruments to be in agreement with metric flight levels. This was over both Russia and Tibet.I'm quite sure they have tables, I have them too. The problem is that the conversion sometimes is not "precise". For example if I am cruising at FL300 and I get into the chinese airspace for sure I'll be cleared to FL0920 (9200 mtrs.) which corresponds to 30100 Ft. In this case is not a big problem as 100 feets more or less doesn't make any difference, but there are cases where RC will shout at you because you are in the middle of 2 flight levels (For example FL0720 7200 mtrs. are 23600 feet.). In any case it would be nice to hear the controller asking you to climb that little bit just to let you understand he's watching you. :(
January 10, 200917 yr Following on from the line up clearances, I used to work at an ATC unit whilst in the RAAF and i can say hear in Oz we used to give the "line up and wait" clearance whilst other aircraft were either departing or were on the landing roll, and the takeoff clearance wasnt issued obviously until the runway was clear and appropriate wake turbulence seperation was sorted. The only thing that RC4 does that we never used to do, was give a landing clearance whilst another aircraft was still on the runway. If the aircraft was still on the runway it was "continue approach". When the preceding aircraft had finally cleared the runway then the "cleared to land" instruction was given. As soon as that "cleared to land" instruction was given to an aircraft on final, then the runway must be clear.
January 11, 200917 yr Pan Pan PanIn UK too it's just like Oz but in the USA you get your landing clearance as per RC4.It seems to be assumed the one in front will clear in time.Of course the Captain still as the right to go round if not happy.I experienced one such at KSFO on RW 19L.The BA 747 skipper aborted as one was taking off from 28L,across our path and he deemed it inappropriate to land although he'd received a landing clearance.EGKK(Gatwick) is a good place to see the full utilisation of a single runway. There's a lot of "line up and wait" and "continue approach, one just clearing" there. But never a landing clearance until the runway is vacant. It may be difficult to renconile the different procedures in programmes like RC4.I wouldn't know.
January 12, 200917 yr PAn Pan PanThose were 2 recent real world experiences I was talking about above not "rc4" incidents.
January 12, 200917 yr Hello, Would it be possible to include the callsign "Leipzig Air" I fly for them and so far the only way I can use the callsign is with EditVoicepak/Standad FS ATC or on Vatsim/IVAO and it bothers me greatly because RC is much better than Standard FS ATC. There are times when I do not want to fly online as in such times I usually fly using RC except when I fly for Leipzig Air because of the missing callsign. I know that it is a Virtual Air Line but could it still be considered for inclusion in V5?Thanks in advance, Chris
January 13, 200917 yr Hi Chris,You not be bothered any longer my friend. We'll make sure Leipzig Air is included in v5 :o)Actually, since we will have to record the Leipzig Air callsign, how exactly do you pronounce it? Lie-p-zig Air? Or Leep-zig?Subs
January 13, 200917 yr Commercial Member Finally, John, when do you think v5 might be out? Thanks,Jamesquality not calendar. it's not ready. i don't know when it will be ready. i've bitten off a lot to chew, and when it's close, i'll let you know. it's not close at the moment.jd JD Read my blog

January 14, 200917 yr Moderator Actually, the correct pronounciation (in standard high german) is lipe-zich air...Would it be pronounced like that in the ATC world? Is Munich pronounced as Munich or Munchen? Ray (Cheshire, England).
