Server Status Update

Hi all,The server is up and running..I apologize for my absence over the past 3 days, my newborn son was in the hospital but he is ok now, we are back at home. Unfortunately cell phones aren't allowed in the hospital so nobody was able to get ahold of me.We suffered a pretty large-scale attack (coordinated from different locations) on both of our redundant servers on the 20th. This continued until just a few hours ago when I manually pulled the plug, and identified/blocked the offending nodes. We are now resetting the system and it should be back up and running within 2 hours. Network attacks have been pretty constant for us over the past 2 years and we have been actively fighting it improving things. After this latest attack, we will in turn be adding new security and redundancy, as well as completely re-designing the client access methods to prevent this kind of thing in the futureFWIW we already have a redundant server, we are currently already working on the 3rd ETA next week, as well as server-status pages and administrator capability (i.e. by Chris and Jim) to automatically reset servers if problems should come up.We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused our users over the past couple days, and vow to put all our effort into competing the new more recoverable system should any attacks, network problems, hardware failures, or other problems come up. This will be our first priority.Thank you for your understanding and patience.Best,

Thanks Damian for the update. Hope all is well with your son now.

Thanks Damian, Good to hear that all's well now with you and your family! All the best,Martijn

Sorry to hear about your son. Glad eveything is ok. I know how it can be when you have medical problems that conflict with real-life obligations. Good luck to you in the future.

Damian,Glad to hear your emergency is over! I'm one of those who has gone through it and still have vivid memories of our year-old son in a hospital bed. Never felt so helpless or useless. He's now over 40 and doing well!Welcome back!JackD

Good to hear your son is doing better, its always scary to have one you love in the hospital!

Hi Damian,The best news is that you and your family are okay. Nothing else really matters. Most of us in the community have always respected you and your team's development skills and support, so don't let some of the posts in other forums bother you. I have owned WxRE, and Active Sky and still feel that they are the best weather programs available. So thanks for your programs and the hardware issues will resolve themselves in time. SOME of us are patient and understanding! :-)

Gerald

Thanks all,I realize that my unavailability is no reason for our network system to not have backup processes and means in place. In fact we were working on all this before things went bad. This was all extremely un-timely...None the less we will make things better and I really appreciate your understanding...Best,

Damian,I also am glad that you and your family are ok, however can I just bring to bear on a comment made in the last post.I don't know if you read the last thread or not, however I can state for a fact that there was not one post placed on there to the best of my knowledge which was derogatory to your skills or anything of the kind. The majority of the posts which weren't centered around wishing you well were with reference to the fact that only one person was able to maintain this server. I was one of the people who wondered how this could occur.I thank you for your response assuring us that this is in hand and will be resolved by implementing changes and accesses.I believe the server is back up and all is now well so thank you and look forward to using this tool that I have heard so much about (only bought it today :D)RegardsCarl

Hello Damian,I wish you and your family all the best. You son is probably the happiest kid in this world, with a father who has always the head in the sky :-) Best wishes from JerusalemDavid

I am happy everything is ok with your family and your son. :)

I am a father of two twin daughters 4 years old, born after only 6 1/2 months instead of the regular 9. So I know very well about hospitals and familiar problems. Nothing else has the priority.I am very happy that your son is OK now! Give him a big kiss.... well, make them two! (I am used to do things in pair!)Giorgio

Glad to hear everything is OK. We were getting worried about you.Tony
