August 16, 200916 yr I'll chime in as one of those against X-plane. PMDG needs to spend the time where their biggest market is- MSFS. There are so many commercial planes that are completely absent in FSX.X-plane will have to look a heck of a lot better than it does now if I'll ever get around to installing it. Have you tried the flight dynamics of X-Plane? Did you notice there are nooo stutters or blurries? This might and will eventually hit right back in PMDG's face if they ignore the XP market. With X-Plane becoming the nr1 sim in the very near future and the growing community it might not be a good choice to ignore this.I'm not talking about releasing all their products for x-plane but perhaps they could start with porting their 744 to XP or their 737 series. Step by step!Davy Albrecht
August 17, 200916 yr ...X-plane will have to look a heck of a lot better than it does now if I'll ever get around to installing it.And you know how X-plane looks...how? Why not try the FREE demo, and then you could post something informative like "I tried it and thought the xxx could be improved" or "I liked the xxx but thought FSX handled yyy better". X-Plane has one huge advantage over FSX which can not be ignored. It is improving, FS is stagnant. Paul Smith.
August 17, 200916 yr +1 I purchased XPlane 9 a while ago and use 9.31 often... its got a lot going for it!RealityXP and Flight1 both have XPlane products.http://www.reality-xp.com/flightsim/gns530-xpl/index.htmlhttp://flight1tech.com/Simulation/G1000/g1000.html Matthew S

FS9 looks better, even FS8 in some places.FSX is most definitely improving... not by microsoft, but by 3rd party developers, like PMDG for instance.Did you notice there are nooo stutters or blurries?Yeah, just like my FSX install... it runs perfect.I'm sure the xplane market will overtake FS in market share some time soon if PMDG starts making X-plane addonsWith no disrespect to PMDG, it will take a LOT more than one addon company to make xplane more popular than MSFS. Your replies are just full of nonsense and the x-plane bashing is definitely a no go. Makes me wonder if you could still sleep if someone would take away your MSFS 'game'.Forums are just FULL of people dissatisfied with FSX and let's face it, FS9 has had it's glory... But please, do continue your 'usefull' review over X-Plane, since you're such an expert in comparing the 2 products.@MatthewS: thanks alot for those 2 product links. Must have missed them since I didn't know of their existance :(
August 17, 200916 yr Well that didn't take long, did it? Only a few posts and we're into an X plane v FS fight. Still, I suppose it makes a change from FS9 v FSX. Why does it always have to be this way? Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)

August 17, 200916 yr X-Plane does have a lot of plusses, framerates being a big one of them. The only thing holding me back from making a switch is the aircraft and the airports (I want the real layout for taxiways and aprons, plus buildings). Can't wait to see what X-Plane 10 has in store for us for aircraft but I did talk to Austin by email and it seems airports will remain about the same as the taxiways, aprons and buildings have to be hand made which is too much for a small team.If PMDG started making X-Plane aircraft I'd be in, though I imagine there would be a fair amount of work to make them XP9 compatible. April 1, 201016 yr I own all three simulators, X-plane, FS9, and FSX, and I find X-plane FAR superior to anything by Microsoft. You can even take FS9/FSX scenery and convert it to X-plane easily. I had X-plane before anything else than with some experimentation, I figured out how to open .Exe files on my mac, so I got FS9, and my first impression was horrible, graphics, even at the highest level were horrid compared to X-plane. The more I played it, the more I hated it. The default runway/taxiway textures were a turn off and the user interface was very bad. I found that pay-ware scenery for FS9 looked better in X-plane. FSX wasn't much better, high graphics quality but somethings were poorly designed. Also the flight model really bothered me in FS9/FSX. So I'm all for PMDG in X-plane. People think that planes of this quality are not possible in X-plane. Take a look at XPJets.com , they are designing a B777 with all the variants with the highest level of detail imaginable. An exterior model preview can be found here- I've really wanted to see a B744 of this quality in X-plane for a while. PMDG should seriously consider this. I really doubt that FSX has 5 more years, FS9 is lucky it has come so far but with simulators such as X-plane, Aerosoft's simulator, and sim-giant's, FSX will die off pretty quickly. If I were PMDG, I would be looking into the simulators of the future like X-plane.
April 1, 201016 yr I agree that X-Plane is probably where we're headed 3 or 5 years from now. I just don't like the way it calculates flight dynamics based on the 3D model. Seems like that's just asking for trouble.
April 1, 201016 yr Emin4013,Thanks for the link. That is one very impressive exterior model. Given Xplane 9's scenery and friendly frame rates it might make those waiting seemingly forever for a good T7, swap over.Gerry
April 1, 201016 yr I smell a troll.Fellow shows up and replies to a topic that is 8 months old, trashing FS9 and FSX and hailing xplane. Then fails to abide by forum rules and sign his name. Also in that 8 months of posting this topic did not warrant a reply from PMDG folks which should make their stance on the issue obvious...Jeff Calder Jeff Calder
April 1, 201016 yr Personally, I find the award for the most realistic flight model of any simulator to go to IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946. The flight dynamics are so fluid and smooth, and the acceleration factor isn't as flimsy as in Rise of Flight - which in of itself is a better sim than FS/X-plane as far as flight models go.But then, in the end, there's more to simming than just a flight models accuracy to the milisecond or milimeter - You need systems, winds that fly in more axis' than just the horizontal, traffic & ATC, every inch of the planet successfully maped and available, and most importantly: An oligopoly of private developers creating a constant stream of addons. It is for this reason why FS is more popular; not because it is better in every regard.Atleast that's my take on it. Necro-threading brings up long-dead rants.Ken Smith Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory. The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune. There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you. It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.
