Hello Robert!I've got the data the way I 've written it before but of course cannot verify it.For the given reason(s) PMDG will make a good business - even with the FS-2004-version and even next year for there are no sensational developments in the (public known) pipeline of Intel and AMD concerning cpu-speed...Best for now!Bert

I have to say that FSX is getting a lot popular now, but I still use FS9 because I can't afford to buy myself a good system for FS9. (If your going to get a PC for FSX it might as well be top of the range), I mean they set you back

Good arguments - for sure FS X will get more popular especially as DDR-3-RAM, i7- and Phenom-cpu's are available now. In conjuction with Windows 7 I assume a (maybe hugh - to be verified) increase in the overall performance of FS X. But as Alexei wrote it is a kind of expensive matter... And FS 2004 is (!) running like we all want the FS X to do with almost all controllers set to the right side :( Best for now!Bert

Prices of hardware will continue to come down, as always.Don't forget also that setting FSX sliders far right gives far more detail than FS9 sliders far right. Hence you need to only set sliders about 50% to match FS9 detail. I'm not sure of the numbers exactly but its been talked about on AVSIM numerous times.

Hi Matthew! You're right... But please take into accountn that a "vital" pc for FS X for sure will cost around 1.500 Euros or a little less. Too much of many of us.Take care!Bert

Yes true 1500 Euros is a lot!I always just upgrade rather than buy a completely new PC. So if I wanted to move from my Q6600 to a Core I7 it would be a case of new motherboard/CPU/ram. I would keep my existing case/GPU/hard drives/powersupply etc. I've not priced that upgrade but its probably around the 500 to 750 dollar mark. Think I'll wait a bit longer though before I upgrade, the Q6600 is fine for the moment.

I must say i really believe that NGX FS9 will never see daylight. You dont have to be too smart to see that in PMDG site there isnt any reference to an FS9 version (no commitment at all) which would be launched after the FSX version, what means more waiting time on a platform that is vanishing for the mass market. Also users will not wait for an FS9 version and will buy the FSX version first what will make them not wanting a downgraded thing to FS9 after starting using the FSX one.I guess MD11 FS9 was a good lesson for us all , FS9 fans, that if dont support the product the developer will sooner or later change his route.FS9 is already a death product and unless ur in a forgotten country where all the good sceneries are FS9 only...the experience really start to become really nice with FSX.. as the computers keep evolving.Unfortunately the world moves on.I still believe that making some improvements to the FS9 version of the 737, in a shortterm, sort of like a last service pack with improved visuals, would be more reasonable than making a whole new plane for FS9 after FSX version is released and would make a lot of people here happy :)... with small costs for PMDG.Cheers

hello everyone, i dont wish to get embroiled with all the why and wherefores, but there are a lot issues here . 1. pmdg finances, 2. keeping a promise and 3. the number of simmers worldwide. 1. pmdg finances is their business and i wont go any further. 2. the time scale is quite long but in the distant past pmdg did promise or words to that effect that the 737ng2 would be available for fs9 and those concerned were elated at this forthcoming addition and now at this point where completion should be complete the bombshell is dropped that this may not be so. surely a case of the haves and the have nots. no one knows the number of simmers worldwide but i am sure in my mind that there must be a great number who have not progressed further than the microsoft default aircraft and they are perfectly happy in this domain and furthermore there are those who maybe have never heard of pmdg or any other developers nor of this forum. so if you take on board the latter statement, just how many simmers are left to purchase pmdg products. i for one, will continue to do so because there is just no competition out there. richard welsh.

Well, the extra development time required does effect FSX users in the end (Which does seem selfish). If it took no extra development time I am sure PMDG wouldn't hesitate making all AC FS9 compliant but it does take time, which is cost, which is also less time working on new products and patches.I am a FSX user, I could imagine how much frustration I would have if I was still a FS9 user and because of that I personally have nothing against PMDG making FS9 versions but whatever I/we say wont make a difference. As PMDG has said many times it is a decision that will be made depending on their data.

...Although i have a great amout of respect for PMDG a decent FSX computer costs atleast $1800. That is extreme money for some people in the hobby. And add to that the about $100 the NGX will cost and we are on a monthly salery for some people. My rig handles FSX not very well and it

I'm sure anything out there would run well or better on a $1800 PC. But it doesn't take that much money to get a good FSX PC. Don't be afraid to make the switch FSX because you think it takes a lot of money, it doesn't. I don't know about your friend's PC, but he has a bottleneck somewhere or is running bad settings for his PC. I have a far less than an i7 and with my 8800GT I got great performance. I spent $650 on the PC hardware.Derek R.Akita, JP
Yeah, i have FSX installed along with FS9 at the moment and taking it slowly. One just have to take it easy and the moeny for a good PC will come. Hopefully when the next goodie comes from PMDG./Daniel Holm

Can I suggest that this "General Update" topic is used only by PMDG as a medium for giving us updates and is closed to comments fron the rest of us. It's a bit tedious having to wade though several pages of posts like those debating the merits of FS9 vs FSX trying to see if there is any PMDG news.Andy Lawton

Not wishing to stir this up further, but peoples main concern here if they are still a FS9er is that they cant either afford the cost of Hardware to support FSX, or they cant afford to replace their large collection of software the have on FS9.Now as much as I appreciate there are many levels of users of FSim from school kids to well paid individuals, to underpaid pensioners! So I don't wish to start a flame war for those that don't have the means to buy or purchase the latest kit. But I personally feel its a week argument for us to keep living in the past and keeping FS9 alive. Most of this whole issue as come about because FSX at the end of the day wasn't the sim it should have been and people dont see that moving onto it is quite worth it.However FSX when running smooth, taking advantage of the extra features that it does support with the right addons is far superior to FS9. Yes its got its issues, and most of them are mainly issues developers have with it! But people need to see that just because someone cant afford a new PC doesn't mean we should not try and continue to push the sim further. At the end of the day a better PC will run FS9 or FSX better, so upgrading will always benefit, other software that you use on your pc is always advancing and requires more powerful hardware to use it. and regardless of your views on FSX, the next sim is on its way either in the Aerosoft version, MS reinventing itself, or some other developer jumping into the fray. Quite simply there is good money to be made out of Flightsimming, and like anything where there is an opportunity to make money someone will eventually take that opportunity. Now whatever sim comes along, is going to support the features that the present Hardware can support, Aersofoft are already saying their sim will support DX11, will take advantage of the number of cores you have, and will also rely upon a combined approach to wards using both the CPU power and GPU power. Developments in Graphics hardware to support multiple monitors, other hardware interfaces etc are all there to enhance this sim, but should we all not bother just because some people cant./wont spend money on buying this hardware? Hardly a good reason to stop the advancement of this hobby we all share. The argument about developing for both FS9 and FSX regardless of what makes money is simple, keep spending double the time developing for two platforms, means less time to spend on developing new things. That fits for all software, not just aircraft. No where else in the computer games industry do they say oh we not going to use Physx, or not going to create these great games engines that support DX10 tools, just because some people are still running a pentium4 with built in GPU. So why should FS? the rest of the games industry is zooming ahead pushing the boundaries all the time, with each development, it helps the developers learn new tricks, motivates them to improve on it, and drives the market to always want something more. Now for those that have lots of scenery and addons for FS9, yes I can understand your pain to have to spend again, but once again you'll probably find that the FSX version is better, using more features, is more uptodate, etc...So I understand those that use Fs9 because they cant afford to upgrade yet to FSX, but they shouldn't moan when their old out of date, no longer supported sim isn't being developed for, they should marvel at how their hobby is advancing, enjoy seeing that the time and effort of the developers is being put into making everything better and moving forward with new ideas, and wait for the day that they can afford to be part of it. Not sit there and try and hold it back for their own selfish reasons. I cant wait to get myself a nice I7 so I can see FSX run even better, and have Aersoft released their sim tomorrow that needed a i9 5ghz chip with 3 graphics cards I would think excellent, just look where this hobby is going, cant wait till i can afford one of those machines. Not criticize them for actually improving the hobby!I totally understand PMDGS comments regarding how their decision is made, money talks at the end of the day, but in the interests of the fact that we see a trickle of new aircraft because of the long term development needed on these projects, I really do hope they do drop FS9 so that once they released an aircraft for FSX, there time is then put straight into developing the next aircraft and not then working on the same aircraft again for FS9. otherwise we-ll see hardly any aircraft coming out, and by which time a new sim will be out, and then we'll have a 3 way split going on lol!RegardsJames CarrI dont think FSX is great, but its better than FS9 and it is moving the sim forward not staying where it is.!

Regards

James Carr

James, your words are perfect - I myself could not said that better :) (although I am on the FSX side of Flightsimming :))

best regards,
