Flight 1 or Maddog?

Featured Replies

Hello, Which of these is better for fsx? Maddog, or Flight 1 MD80's?-thank youMatthew Miller

I would personally go with the Maddog but i do not have much experience with the flight1 MD-80.Also be aware the Maddog is very complex and realistic procedures are modelled.ThanksRichy

I have both addons. The maddog is a far better simulator, but harder to learn. More systems are acurately modeled in the Maddog and it comes with more utilities, including a networked sim station called "control panel". IMHO, Maddog is the most complete simulation of any airliner available for FS.The Super80 Pro for FSX seems to have a memory leak and the longer you use the FMS the more memory it eats up until I get a OOM error. This is with both 32 bit and 64 bit OS's.JB

It depends a lot on what you mean by "better". It has great systems simulation, and if you will be flying it from the 2D panel I'd recommend it without any reservations. If you are more of a VC flyer you may find it too hard on the frame rates (depending on your computer specs).

HelloFor FSX the flight1 MD80 but only because as Tom mentioned the fps in the LH Maddog are horrible in FSXIn FS9 no contest, The LH Maddog is smooth as glass for me with an old [email protected] the best complex jet ever for FS9.

I am flying the Maddog on FSX... and I am running a mediocre system.. [email protected], 285GTX, 4 gigs ram and winxp64bit.... I am locked at 30 with consistent Frame rate of 25-30. Bottomline, expect the same Frame Rates as the PMDG J41...Another interesting thing is that I get better frames in the 3d pit than 2d on the maddog in FSX on my system.JB

I don't have the Flight1 version but I have the MADDOG for FS9. The 2 things that I like about it is that you can get rid of the yokes in the 3D flight deck and get rid of the annoying center post in the 2D flight deck. The MADDOG has a few problems but a upgraded is rumored to maybe be in the making. Who knows. JimCYWG

The Maddog for FS9 is the best hardcore airliner ever made for any version of Flight Simulator. I will say though if your using FSX exclusively the Flight1 option is the better choice as it's easier on Framerates.

With the flight 1 (I'm assuming the Coolsky), is there really a memory leak?I have been considering the flight one version for two reasons1. I tend to prefer add ons that are not terribly system intensive. My understanding is the Flight 1 version is very customizable and offers a lot of tutorials.2. I really want the McPhat textures. From everything I have read, it looks like the Flight 1 version would be the best for my preferences.

Flight one has a money back guarantee. Give it a try for yourself. I really wanted to keep the addon, but I did a battery of tests and on my system I found that whenever using the FMC, the sim would gradually eat up memory without ever releasing any. I was able to complete 2 hour flights without the FMC and as soon as I used the FMC I would run outa memory after time. There are others that are having the same problem and it's mentioned on thier boards, under the super80 pro boards.JB

Just to clarify, the fps in the FSX Maddog are fine if you fly from the 2D - it's only in the VC that I find it slowing down. Not a problem to me, since I prefer flying airliners from the widescreen 2D panel anyway, but tastes differ.

Hi Jeff,This was a battle for me. I do like the most intense systems simulations possible, but since going only with the LH Maddog, I don't get all of the McPhat repaints. Some days I consider getting the Flight 1 version since it has tutorials. My New Years resolution for FSX is to learn as much as possible on the Maddog.Keith
