PMDG 737 NGX: The View Forward

Featured Replies

That won't happenThe PMDG 737NGX will be released in December :-)
what's the junction between december and the wx radar? For wx radar I mean the possibility to see the formation clouds in the navigation display.

I read in one of the posts that the aces team realized, and were unable to fix a flow with the mouse clickspots in the cockpit before they were shut down?I am no developer, but may I make a suggestion here.If you can somehow have one clickable point within the cockpit instead of the many, and have it open a seperate window with those options included, perhaps that would aleviate the issue with the mouse pointer slowing things down? Thanks, and looking forward to the purchases in the next 18 months or so.

I have another question... After realese, when comes the product in the Aerosoft shop? I mean, i can't find the 744X Expansion in the Aerosoft shop! :( But i will still waiting.......

Thats right, Vin and I came up with an efficient way of building 3D models. The mesh is optimized for a good flow from front to back which is how video cards render an object. So in our case, our aircrafts, the wireframe mesh flows from front to back in an aerodynamic-like flow. It has shown us that it is much more efficient and much cleaner for video cards to gobble up the wireframe and spit out a solid 3D object rather than a mish-mash of polygons running in all sorts of directions. Also in the case of our 747-8, we have used significantly less bones than our -400 in animating the wing flex and the leading edge slats. Bones consume ALOT of resources especially draw calls... Additionally, efficient UVW mapping also plays a role in model rendering efficiency. Our 747-8 has been a test bed for a good number of features that we are going to implement in the NGX, but I'll let the suspense run its course :-) Although I'll give one idea, those 3D cabin windows you see in the 747-8i, they will be a feature on the NGX. Its a cool technique that involves a few polygons and mostly textures. End result is a massive reduction in the amount of polygons we would have gotten if we had to physically cut each window out in the mesh. Thats another reason why your getting better FPS ;-) The NGX will be a step up... if not, better.Cheers,
I'm sorry if this is a bit of an annoying question, especially since it's still early - but are you expecting the NGX to be on par with the J41 with regards to framerates? Is that a comparison the development team is aiming for?

Regarding the pictures: awesome stuff, guys. Has a lot of clarity of the J41, plus that lived in look.

The NGX VC will be utilizing the VC technology from the J41 and as far as projects go, we always strive to better each project but provide the same level of PMDG quality and consistency. Our goal is to produce a finer product that incorporates new features and techniques that we have learnt from our previous products but we constantly try to better ourselves. It wouldn't be fair to compare a new product with a previous product in terms of frame rates as each product, each aircraft and VC are different, some may be simpler in design, others more complex. But we try to aim for better performance the more complex the product gets. At the same time, there is a natural progression of faster computer hardware and we try to take advantage of that but we are AWARE of the limitations of FSX and such we don't push things to the limit. There is a fine balance between quality and performance, our aim is to make each new product function on many different types of computers.Don't worry, we'll make sure the NGX performs well, if not better :-)Cheers,

Jason, would you consider elaborating on this (to the extent that you are comfortable without giving away your 'secrets') in an outlet such as the aircraft and gauges forum here, or over at fsdeveloper? It seems that, now that we are in our 4th year of FSX, and given that this is the end of the line, that these discoveries could lead to a higher rate of output from other freeware and payware developers. Food for thought at least.Thanks.

I'm just wondering if there will be a 2D cockpit for the NGX? So far i read about no discussion about 2D cockpit whatsoever. I'm happy that the aircraft got a high definitation 3D cockpit, but clicking in 3D cockpit is just not fun at all....I know aerosoft 's A320 won't have a 2D, that's a huge disappoint to me, i hope that won't be the case of NGX..NGX will be my first PMDG product, and i know 747 and MD11 have 2D cockpits, so i'm really hoping NGX will continue that trend. I did not buy the ariane 737NG partly because the lack of 2D cockpit, so now i'm keeping my fingers crossed for NGX. I like to takeoff and land in 3D, but during flight preparations i really like 2D cockpits better.

Who told you that? There is a very nice 2D panel on the original NG models. As far as the 2D on the NGX, I believe that PMDG has stated there will be, however the focus is on the VC. The 2D, will of course be as highly detailed.

Yes, there's a 2D panel.
