I've tried some of Bojotes recommended settings and I must say that my sim has never been this smooth. I'll publish them when I'm not so lazy. He has revived the hobby.Big thanksjja

Don't forget to post please, maybe we could all post what works better for each one of us after a couple of days when we all have figured it out and fine tuned everything :)

It's not like being a real pilot but I still get to fly upto 400 feet. Here's a picture of the balloon:

I have to say mine has been running awesome. I haven't even been back to FS9 since I used his tweak.

Just tried the tweaks on my machine, so far just using the C172 at Friday Harbor. My system is a Q6600 (OC to 3GHZ) with 4GB DDR3 RAM, a 8800GTS GPU, running XP32. I had some small intermittent graphics spikes from some of the surrounding terrain, which given my older system may be normal. I have still to try a more complex aircraft in a denser area, however the smoothness is amazing! Thanks *******!Later- I do see some rather large pauses when trying the Level-D B763 out of KSEA, but the sim is so smooth its almost worth having them :). I will try the UsePools=1. Looks like a new GPU is on the horizon! I do hope to replace most of the components in my PC (home-built) with W7 later this year anyway. Thanks, Bruce.

Bruce, remember it's Usepools=0, not 1 :)that's what will improve FPS

4GB RAM with XP32?I always thought XP32 can only handle max 3GB?Wolfgang

If I rememberize rightly, WXP 32 reserves (uses?) 1Gb of RAM, therefore 4 would give you three usable, three would make two available, etc.

Careful. The complete address space of Windows 32 is 4GB, regardless of the amount of physical memory installed. Some system devices, such as the graphics card, use a portion of that space. So if you install 4GB of physical memory, some of that will not be available - it will be "hidden" by those system devices. As a rule of thumb, any memory you install up to 3GB will be fully available. If you install 4GB of memory, a portion of that last GB may also be available - this depends mostly on how much memory is on your graphics card (with more memory on the card, less system memory will be available).
If you're using a dual-channel memory system... I think the 4GB installed will work differently than if it's not a dual-channel. Is this correct?
From the OS' perspective this should make no difference. At the hardware level there may be some memory configurations that work better than others, but the above still applies.

Is this tweak only for Windows 7, or will it also improve Windows XP ? I looked to see if any of you responders were using XP, but couldn't find any.Dave Hinson

There's two different tweaks. The bufferpools & the highmemfixThe first one is a performance tweak, the second is a fix for disapearing textures (for what I know it's a Vista/W7 related issue only)But it wont's hurt to try them. They worked well for me and many others.Just backup your fsx.cfg in case you need to revert the changes and you'll be fine

Thanks Dazz,I had tried the UserPools=0 and found that I has large pauses. From what I read from *******' post, if the graphics card can deal with the graphics data stream from the COU then that setting will work fine (my card is obviously too low-end), however re-setting it to "1" activates the additional buffer which consumes resources but also buffers the data to avoid the pauses. Thanks, Bruce.

Yeah I've wondered if these new tweaks are only for users with recent systems. My AMD6000 is actually really old now, very early 2007 tech - so I'm guessing this stuff wouldn't help me? Anyone using an older system getting great results?

the tweak can work well for you too for what I know. Do you guys have frames locked? that might as well help. If the ingame frame locker doesnt, try an external like this one:http://www.caveofdistraction.com/2009/07/2...d-other-titles/
