The CLS MD-81

Featured Replies

Why has a thread about the CLS MD 80 become yet again another FS9 vs. FSX arguement?
It's because FS9ers are very upset that developers are announcing FSX only development (CLS and CaptainSim in the last week). Hence they start posting about how FS9 is not dead and FSX is a big mistake etc etc.

Why has a thread about the CLS MD 80 become yet again another FS9 vs. FSX arguement?
Unfortunately this is what happens when a developer announces something like this. I think that if a developer wants to go FSX only, then so be it. It is their business, not ours. They may find this to be the best move for them. As an FS9 user, the only thing I was upset about was that CLS didn't make these intentions known before they announced the product. Being 99% sure it was an MD-80 from their preview video released a couple of months ago, I was eager to buy. Now pbviously I won't be buying, but it's okay. I'm not going to throw a fit for a product. The problem is, threads like this always get de-railed. Users of both sims are at fault for this. FSX is a superior product visually, but it's major tradeoff is performance. I know hardware has became available to run it much better than a few years ago, but by no means is it always perfect. I still use FS9 because I'm content with it. I own FSX and would also have it on my computer if I had the space. However, I know that FS9 would run better on my machine, so I am satisfied with it. Does that make me poor or cheap? Absolutely not.Basically, this topic became far off of it's general intentions. This is about the CLS MD-81 and not about FS9 v. FSX.

I find it really funny that these FS9 users almost never have a legitimate reason why FS9 is better or should still be developed for.

FSX is a superior product visually, but it's major tradeoff is performance.
I have no problems with FSX performance. And if I "dumbed down" the visuals to FS9 quality it would probably outperform FS9 anyway!

HelloThe day I get upset at CLS or CS not developing any addon will be the day I quit Simming.May as well fly the defaults if CLS is the type of addon that floats your boat.

Sure.

I actually enjoy both sims so it is win win.It is unfortunate that the Maddog does not have a true FSX version, the FS9 version is probably the best airliner sim I own, and I own just about all of them for FS9 and FSX. There's a reason I still use FS9, and it's not because the performance is better.

The only valid reason to still use FS9 is if you just can't afford to buy a brand new system capable of running fsx with all your favorite addons, and having to buy most again. Plus the serious lack of addon scenery coverage which finally is starting to come back.

That's a silly broad-based generalization. There are few add-ons that simply do not work as well in FSX as they do in FS9, i.e., port overs. The Maddog and Fokker 70/100 are two examples. Some people just don't see a need to purchase FSX. Yes, even people who are well off financially.

If those are the only airplanes you care about, then fine. But like I said, there are no other reasons.

Yep it's the FS9ers, the "vocal minority". :( No amount of whining about how poor they are :( or how much they have invested in FS9 :( is ever going to make any developer switch back to FS9. FS9 is dead so please cant the FS9ers just get over it and save their pennies and upgrade to FSX like the rest of us! Alternatively they could purchase the AirSimmer A320 for FS9 B)
Throw a bone to the Troll...... B)

There are some really intelligent, reasonable people on here, like psolk and arklight1 but it's useless trying to reason with children like MatthewS and 413..whatever.They still think this is about which version of the sim is best blah blah whereas what it is really now about (whether people like it or not) is respecting your fellow simmer, regardless of which platform they use, and why.To make comments about people only using FS9 because they're poor and can't afford a rig for FSX is just plain disgusting, ignorant and hateful. Grow up, you should be totally ashamed of yourself and how you've made yourself look 'MatthewS'. A big spoilt, selfish kid. Learn a few things about the world and come back for a serious discussion.Ok, I'll say something really crude, to drop to the level of you two:- I earn $300,000 per year and guess what, I still own and spend 75% of my time on FS9, because it's still superior in many ways for serious IFR and complex airliner simulation. I have FSX and I generally get 50FPS from my Q9650 / GTX285 but FSX works better for me (and many others as a VFR / scenery platform). When you attack FS9ers because you perceive them to be 'inferior' to you, you are attacking your own brothers in this hobby. Some of the comments in this thread are shameful. Simple as.Davido.

Sure... Just read the comments of FS9ers on various forums. Many post that they cant afford to upgrade their hardware and/or addons to run FSX. They expect however that developers perform acts of charity and develop new addons for FS9 when those developers will not recoup their dev costs. And of course don't forget all the FS9 pirates that will be licking their lips at the thought that some developer might be silly enough to release another FS9 product which they can steal. Just ask PMDG about the FS9 MD11, or read their forum post from months ago.

To be fair, there is a fair amount of FSX addon pirates as well!

Thanks

Of course, but also a lot more paying customers! If you were a developer would you want to keep targeting an antiquated platform (FS9) that is run it seems mostly by people who cant afford decent hardware to run FSX? Naturally most of those FS9 users are not going purchase addons for it, they will pirate them. At least with FSX you have a much larger base of users willing to pay for addons. Developers realise this and hence the shift to FSX only products.IMHO.edit: I'm not casting aspersions at any people that post here. I'm talking about the vast number of FS9 users out "in the wild".
