Yes, it is quite old and doesn't include the latest gen cards. But the question for me remains, is it worth the money going to a GTX-285 from a 8800GTS 640 ? (Right now im doing pretty well FPS wise, but just need a little bit more) to get my sliders as ******* recommends. The GTX-285 is roughly $350-360 ATM.

Don't buy a 285 when you can get a GTX 470 for the same price.

15 or 16 was the same for me. It would only run on 4 cores.

... I think you mean the left digit refers to "core 3", not the 3rd core. Core 3 is the fourth core.

No - Word Not Allowed pointed to a discussion on procs with more than four cores: you said "15 or 16 was the same for me. It would only run on 4 cores. The first core is Core number 0, the second core is Core number 1, and so on..Your end question - "So what you are saying is that FSX won't use any more than 4 cores? You need to download the Shader 3.0 mod, also, tell me specifically what is what you are not having success with?

Need a recommendation here based on my current set-up. I'm running FSX w/Acceleration -A/C add ons, no scenery add ons. I've pretty much followed Nicks guide (Simviation) as far as settings go within FSX settings menu. It seems to run fairly well given my system. The only tweak I've added to FSX.cfg is the HIGHMEMFIX=1. Adopting provided fsx.cfg to my needs gives me +2-4 frames no matter the previous one. In deserts 57 and 59 gives no difference, but in congested area 22 vs 24-25 is good! I had to remove [bufferPools] section, since it gives me no performance boost, but loading times increased few times.
