June 29, 201015 yr After recurring disappointments with depiction of actual weather conditions on many flights, I took a casual 90 mile flight today from KDAB with overcast, rain and thunderstorms in the area reported. The displayed conditions were pretty much as indicated, and I proceeded north. KSGJ was reporting clear below 20,000 feet, and sure enough the skies became clear except for high altitude clouds. However, in the distance to the north I could see clouds and lightning. Sure enough, KCRG to the north was reporting cloudy with rain. The clouds remained as I flew toward them, and as I neared KCRG the rain began.I had no idea that FSX weather depiction could show weather in the distance based on a weather station that was not currently the closest, and I suspect this was a malfunction that coincidentally depicted what was actually correct. Probably, the thunderstorm in the distance was left over from the weather depiction at the start of the flight, remaining when the clear conditions were (suddenly) displayed.Anyway, it was nice to experience a realistic depiction of approaching weather, even if it was accidental. June 29, 201015 yr that sounds awesome. are you running any external wx programs? or was that FSX default?for now I'm just running default, but in the future I hope to add ASE, but I am surprised at just how good the default is. Ciao!

June 29, 201015 yr Author Am I misreading ... it wasn't the default weather but the ASE program that generated the weather depiction. As stated in the thread title, it was ASE generating the weather conditions, but the clouds were FSX default, not REX, X Graphics, etc. However, I'm not selling ASE. I'm going to assume that it was a fluke unless I see it happening more. Art

I have been round and round with the HiFi team about ASE, but this morning after a long flight from KJFK I could not believe how well the weather was being depicted. Don't know if this was a fluke, but it could not have been more perfect.DWC is still FUBAR, but ASE was on target today at EHAM and in fact the entire route across the Atlantic.Bob

Can I ask 2 questions here please?(1) does that mean you still use DWC? Without it checked I find no winds aloft at all.(2) how do you get the default FSX clouds etc. I've got my textures imported from REX but how can I install an FSX default? Many thanks.Cheers
June 29, 201015 yr I really should look into this weather business, shouldn't I? How is ASE for performance? does it have any effect on performance, except for the obvious impact on performance clouds and such will have? June 30, 201015 yr Author I really should look into this weather business, shouldn't I? How is ASE for performance? does it have any effect on performance, except for the obvious impact on performance clouds and such will have?I see little ASE affect on performance. My system specs are listed below. It might be different on a weaker computer. The correct display of weather in FSX is a fleeting moment, but without ASE or something similar it's a never happening moment. Art

I have Active Sky Advanced, which I have always abbreviated at "ASA". Is this the product that you are using? If ASE is a different product, is it better able to depict weather at stations other than the "current station"?Thanks, Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
June 30, 201015 yr His weather program was ASE!!Hi Jim I've been running FSMetar cause the stock real weather has been very screwy for last 6 months. If I were to get ASE - can I run it on a networked computer? My current PC is fairly out of date and I'm trying to squeeze performance out here and there. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
June 30, 201015 yr Moderator If I were to get ASE - can I run it on a networked computer?I run ASE on a networked computer and prior I was running ASA the same way.I actually like it better running on a networked computer because I can view the weather map and UI without having to minimize FSX, plus like you said, it take a little bit of load of the FSX computer.
