June 30, 201015 yr I was wondering if picking up a small cheap laptop, I mean a real tiny little thing and use it for a moving map display, etc how easy/difficult would this be to do? and how would I go about it? would I have to set up my computers as a network? or could I just usb them together. Ciao!

June 30, 201015 yr I was wondering if picking up a small cheap laptop, I mean a real tiny little thing and use it for a moving map displayfeelThere released, about three weeks ago, MAP! network edition (an airliner-like moving map and information screen). the gauge/program allows you to use your home network to diplay MAP! the on a second computer. MAP! network edition does this without using wideFS.specs for the computers used are -Flight Simulator 9 or Flight Simulator X running on either a Windows XP, VISTA 32 bit or Windows 7 operating system with 2GB of system RAM (as of yet no reports of problems on 64bit systems).the memory specs are important as the graphic file for the map display is LARGE.-- D. June 30, 201015 yr you don't necessarily need to spend money...Just use Google Earth for your moving map (you can even superimpose the weather onto it if you like), and use the built-in simconnect dll to hook the 2 machines together on your wireless lan. That way you can turn the autopilot on, take the laptop with you while you eat your tea, and be back at your main PC in time for the descent.Have a look at this:http://fsxget.codeplex.com/It's pretty easy to set up and works a treat on my baby Dell laptop. Having said all that, thanks to Mindyerbeak for the top tip about tasoftware. Looks great.

Having said all that, thanks to Mindyerbeak for the top tip about tasoftware. Looks great. Thanks for the tip. I have been using Plan-G for all my flights, as it does make use of Google Maps. However, I am going to give this FSGet a whirl since my laptop already has Google earth installed. I like the 3D possibilities GE will bring. I will report back here which is better IMHO after I get her working.
July 1, 201015 yr hi,If you have a videocard with 2 outputs, simply connect a second monitor to display a moving map such as plan G.Cheap and easy to set up :( My gallery: http://s1075.photobucket.com/albums/w430/yankeegolf/
July 1, 201015 yr I tried the Google Earth approach - but PLAN-G is better for my use, since you can change between the Map, Satellite and Terrain views - with or without the overlay, which can give you for better detail about what is below you than "Google Earth". The only thing I would say against it is that it is quite slow to move the map and that the AI traffic is not all shown - FSCommander is much better for that !!G Gary Davies aka "Gazzareth" Simming since 747 on the Acorn Electron

Your FSX Computer is the server computer.7. Your networked computer is the client.8. Your firewall software must be configured to allow SimConnect communications on port 500, this includes windows firewall and applies to all computers, both SERVER and CLIENT(s).9.
