MilViz Cessna C310R

Featured Replies

Bert,That's actually a characteristic of the real Cessna 310R! Except you get the benefits when the main fuel tanks (tip tanks) get down to halfway.
OOPS, I guess I have my tanks mixed up (blame it on the Dreamfleet 310!)So, for just flying a circuit, would you fill the main (tip) tanks halfway andleave the auxiliary (in the wing) tanks empty? Or would you carry some extra fuelin the wing tanks and fill the main tanks less?Either way, the advice "if you want to have an easier flying experience, less fuel at the endof the wing helps" is good, right?

After your payment is validated, you will receive a key file. Copy both the downloaded file and the key to your non-internet computer.Use this key to "unlock the wrapper" and extract the actual installer executable.Once "unwrapped," the installer program should run and allow you to continue installation.
That's great, just what I was hoping would be the case. Guess that's a "wrap" :Raised Eyebrow:Steve

Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. During the time I had this in my hands for rigging and coding, I had tested the release extensively on what I (mistakenly) thought was an FSX+SP2 installation. Even though all the .exe files clearly show "SP2," it turns out that my Vista machine was gleefully acting as though I were running the Acceleration version...Since reading the early reports of various issues, I've now confirmed that Acceleration "fixed more" than previously believed by everyone. Many "non-Acceleration specific" things (such as Attachpoints and boned-skined animations) simply do not work with SP2... <sigh>I am in the process of trying to find a workable solution for those who do not have Acceleration installed.
Not a problem Bill! We ALL are human, and little mistakes happen! I look forward to what you can come up with! It's too bad FSX is just so fickle, and that the ACES team is gone! Too bad they don't make it open source. All of you talented individuals could make FSX amazing. Thanks for your work Bill!

I use a Microsoft Force Feedback 2 with a twist control rudder. Even though it's a little challenging to steer the 310 down the runway, it is totally do-able, and it is absolutely NO challenge to keep her flying straight and true. Yes, rudder pedals might work easier, but it certainly not that difficult to have a totally immersive experience with this plane and all others that I fly. I wouldn't change the Force Feedback experience for anything, and I'm going to go to EBay right now and order another one...just as a backup. I sure hope that someday, there is a force feedback yoke for FSX (don't know why someone hasn't produced one yet...there's force feedback steering wheels for racing games!). When that yoke appears, I'll take my rudder pedals out of the closet and use them again. The Cessna 310 works GREAT with my twist rudder.Stan
Force Feedback is great for sure. Being an entry level airline pilot, I don't want to invest in a bigger Joystick that I have to lug around, especially from Hawaii! So, I bought about the cheapest one I could, until one day I own my own house and can have a nice Tower PC!
Just as a help to other inexperienced pilots, like myself, I found that emptying the external tanks makesfor a more docile aircraft. So, until you've got her under control, fly with empty external tanks andthe first three choices under Aircraft Realism set to maximum. (Yes, including torque)
Exactly Bert, in regards to the sliders! I had my torque and pfactor all the way off, because a lot of airplanes response wrongly to them. However, all the way full works great for the C310, and makes it much more flyable! However, I don't think you want to have your main tanks empty ;)

If you lose an engine, all the fuel in the associated auxilary fuel tank is unaccessible! This is because the pumps needed to transfer fuel from the aux tanks to the engine are powered by the engine on the same side the tank is on!Another characteristic is that unburned fuel from the aux tank is always transfered to the associated main fuel tank -- FSX cannot do that also! This means that if you fail to first burn at least 10 gallons from the main tank, and you select the aux tank, you may end up puking fuel into the atmosphere because the transfer pump will send to the main tank and push it out via the bypass overpressure valve!Cheers,Ken
That's interesting, I believe the C340 is also like this. Kind of a dumb design on Cessna's part!!! The C310C I was flying was not like this, but then again we didn't do engine failures either ;). We burned about 15 gallons, maybe 20 out of the mains, then switch to the aux tanks to run dry (by dry, I mean down to the limit of the airplane, usually 2-5 gallons remaining in each), and then back to the mains for the remainder of the flight.Ken, regarding the manual on this bird, I feel it would be best if you put in there somewhere, or put out a statement saying settings should be "this". That way you won't have people like me wondering what the hell is happening!Kreg

I couldnt agree more Stan. The MSFFB2 is an amazing joystick. Ive tried two yokes and both were sticky and made flying a chore. Ive tried a hotas stick set with rudder pedals and after a short time, went back to my MSFFB2. it really is an amazing joystick and works great with this plane as well as any others ive flown in FSX. The force feed effects work great in Rise of Flight too. Rob
You'd better buy another one (EBay)...because, as you know, they are no longer available as new sticks. Check out the very high prices of these sticks on Ebay and you will see how they've become more valuable over time. The buttons do eventually wear out with use. I'm on my 3rd stick and usually the buttons I have associated with Flaps (#5 and #6) get less sensitive over time.Stan

Well, if fuel were no concern, I would not fill any tank, but just go with what I already had. However, anytime I fly cross country, I want the main tanks (the ones on the wing tips) fully fueled. Yes, it does cause the dutch roll, but frankly you get used that as a 310 pilot and it becomes almost undetectable. Also, on a cross country, once you get the main tanks bled down for the required room, you switch to the aux tanks (the ones in the wings) and you bleed them down to as close to empty as you rationally want to. I know some 310 pilots who actually bleed down the aux tanks until they detect the first indications of fuel starvation. Note: I do not do that ever! I also don't rely upon the fuel quantity gauges either. I use my Shadlin fuel flow meters and old-fashioned timing and plan to leave about 10 gallons in each aux tank as a buffer. I also never plan a cross country without having a full hour plus alternate fuel for IFR conditions. For the 310R, with a cruise fuel flow of 25 gallons/hour, that means with the 10 I leave in the aux tanks, I plan to land with no less than 15 each in the mains. I figure that at a cruise speed of about 185 to 200 KTAS, you really don't need to squeeze every ounce of fuel from the tanks! Just land with an hour's worth onboard and gas up!So, my cross country technique from takeoff to landing is:1. Take off in mains (always required) and stay on the main tanks for a full hour.2. Switch to aux tanks per the checklist (associated fuel pump in low, check the quantity in the aux tanks first on the fuel gauges with the toggle switch, and switch to the aux's).3. With about 10 gallons left in each aux (timing and fuel gauge indication) switch back to the main tanks (which will have about 10 extra gallons in them courtesy the transfer pump putting the unburned fuel from the aux tanks).4. Stay on the mains all the rest of the way until engine shut down.BTW: You NEVER takeoff or land on the aux tanks! Per the POH, that's contrary to the manufacturer's instructons because the aux tanks are not as reliable since a failure of the engine-driven fuel pump or hitting unusual attitudes due to turbulence could interrupt fuel supply, and you never want that to happen close to the ground!Cheers,Ken

The download file has been updated with Service Release v1.9081, which has fixed all reported issues to date. The C310R is now fully functional for everyone with FSX+SP2 or Acceleration.Previous purchasers need only download the new installer, and use the "Reinstall" button on the Flight1 Wrapper along with their current key file.

Thanks for all of your hard work Bill! I will download tonight after work and try it. And then after, I will uninstall and then install FSX Gold. Any thoughts on the best way to uninstall? Also, I noticed that on the Flight1 website for purchase, it shows a paint that does not exist in the initial download. Is that coming later? Thanks again!

When those screenshots were make, no final decision had been made on which liveries to include in the full install. The others are available for free download from the same page at Flight1.Actually there are two shown: the white/blue w/gold pinstripes, and the white/red with gold pinstripes. Both of them are ones I made while working on the model's material settings.

Right after I posted this and went to download the C310 again, I noticed the livery pack :(. Also, the new models seem to work great! However, I only have one problem remaining! Not sure what pic it is, but the rectangle that cuts through the middle of the model, when looking from the "tower" view, still exists. I will reply back if acceleration fixes it after I install!~

Fr. Bill, i just installed the latest version on a Acceleration setup (everything worked fine previously). Now i can't access the AP and ADF - buttons are dead and no numbers show up. Since nobody else reported this yet, i am a bit worried :( I did remove the previous installation before running the wrapper. Was that a mistake ?

Cheers

Heiko

No mistake there. The installer would have simply overwritten the existing files anyway, so it truly makes no difference.I've had a few other such reports elsewhere and am looking into the issue. It's a major pain for me, because I have to keep installing/removing Acceleration and SP2 to test these things out... :Thinking:Try copying these two font files from the FSX ..\Fonts folder and dropping them into your ..\Windows\Fonts folder so they will register correctly:DS-DIGIB.TTFDS-DIGIT.TTF
