Carenado's Grand Caravan

Featured Replies

Just saw over on simflight that this plane is out as of yesterday. It looks really good. Anyone have yet and if so how is the flight dynamics, vc, frames/smoothness? Thanks

Eric,Visually stunning, but the flight dynamics are off until you put in Fede's mods listed in the Carenado Caravan forum elsewhere on Avism. Once you put those flight dynamics in (and they're not hard to do), the Caravan is nothing short of brilliant. Loads of fun to fly, very nice to look at.As for frames and smoothness, your mileage may vary. I have a good machine with an unfortunate video board (Quad core held back by an nVidia 8500GT board), and the Caravan runs fine for me.

I end up tweaking every add-on's flight-dynamics; to one degree or another... So that didn't bother me... becuase it IS a wonderful model.. well worth the price. My only complaint, is that Carenado issued a certificate in WRITING, attesting to the Caravan pilot tested flight-dynamics.. even "signed" by the CARAVAN pilot... Dubious, at best, if not outright dishonest.

It better feel more like a 182, rather than something heavier & slower in roll. I've never flown a Caravan, let alone been in one, but came across this information during the FS2004 default Caravan days. It's more lively in roll, due to the spoilerons...........according to a few Caravan pilots. I believe Lane Wallace (Flying Magazine) said the same thing. In fact, a Caravan pilot commented that the MSFS default model wasn't too bad at all. Could have been FSX though. It's been too long to remember.L.Adamson

A problem I have with the default FSX Caravan is that when I get an eypoint set in the 3D cockpit to have sufficient traffic and runway visibility over the instument panel, the eyepoint is too high to see out of the side widow when panning to the side. What has been the visibility experience with any of you using the Carenado version? Thanks,GW

This is a good question... I have the same issue, but it is semi-resolved with Track IR

I have the same issue with the Carenado 208 but EZdok is a great solution.

And you find this to be dishonest how?BTW...this so called "DISHONEST CARAVAN PILOT" has worked with someone to further enhance the FDE of the C208B. Be looking for a SP for it to drop, that will have all FSX non-limited fixables fixed...

He wasn't saying the pilot was dishonest .. he was saying the carenado was dishonest, because he didn't believe that "real" pilot had check the flight model. Basically, he is saying the flight dynamics were to far off for a real pilot to have checked it.I think he might be in the minority .... many feel the model feels right, myself included.  :(

Well.. I'd like to talk to the pilot who signed his name to a Caravan model that can't cruise above 130KIAS.. has poor STOL perfomance, innacurate fuel-consumption, and inconsistent engine gauging.

"pd400" is a real-world Caravan pilot.
