October 7, 201015 yr I was referring to the switch to Intel processors. Which really helped drive MAC developers to Microsoft or at least made them vendor neutral. I love XP and I think the team does great work, I just wish they'd focus more on the high end Windows 7 user base which is all 64-bit at this point. We can all live with the 32bit version as loon as there is zero chance of an Out of Memory error.I completely agree with you on the 32 bit issue. There definitely should be support for more RAM. But on the whole "high end Windows 7 user base", the XP user base (as far as I can tell from looking around on forums) is primarily Mac based, so the high-end W7 market is most likely not the most important. On the other hand, Macs have had 4 gigs of RAM for a while. Im sure that this issue is not as simple as it sounds, especially considering how few people make up Laminar Research. Also, I dont think that Mac developers would have cared too much about the switch to Intel. I am no expert, but doesn't a program need to work with the OS? The OS is what deals with the CPU, not a program. OSX was both PPC and Intel for a few versions, but the programs were still for OSX. I have never heard of a developer making editions of programs, one for the PPC and one for the Intel based Macs. Daniel Miller
October 7, 201015 yr Nope they just put it all in one binary in the MAC world. Less confusing then using two seperate binaries like Microsoft does with Intel. Microsoft also has the .NET Framework which is virtual machine based. So whatever system is running .NET Framework you can simply execute the exact same bytecode.Really as time goes on the differences between the OS's are diminishing. In either case according to Ben it's going to happen. So if they are releasing in December of this year, they have a full year to do so before Microsoft does the same. Personally I'm more excited about the shader code. Hardware Accelerated lighting is something every modern flight sim should have.
October 8, 201015 yr I was referring to the switch to Intel processors. Which really helped drive MAC developers to Microsoft or at least made them vendor neutral. That I wouldn't know... For the users it was a major leap forward for all I know, what with the possibility to dual boot into Windows if necessary (to play games, for example. However, I see more and more great games being released for Mac, and it happens sooner and sooner after the Windows release).dm123: some developers did that. Although I can't think of any examples of the top of my head, I know I had to download a correct binary for some freeware programs. But as veeray said, usually everything was included in one binary that you simply dragged to your applications folder, and that was it. No choosing between processor type before downloading or during installation. This is al very nice, but do note that it does enlarge the size of the download. I used a program some time ago called XSlimmer that automatically removed the Intel or PPC part of the programs depending on your processor. It was quite a nice program, but I have no idea what happened to it...Going back to X-Plane, I'm not sure if I should be happy or disappointed. It sounds great, and the screenshots look amazing, but I have trouble getting over the 20 AI plane thing. I simply can not imagine me flying around Europe's airports with only 20 Ai planes. That is, given that my computer can handle those 20 AI planes, because from what I understood, my quad core processor might not be able to even run 20 Ai planes in that sim. October 8, 201015 yr If you are flying over them I am sure the trees would look fine. Can you imagine the power it would take to do 3D trees, instead of upright 2D images?Have you seen Outerra trees ? AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, RTX 4080S, Ram - 32GB, 32" 4K Monitor, WIN 11. Eric Escobar
October 9, 201015 yr Have you seen Outerra trees ?Yes I have, but dont expect to see it in X-Plane soon. They work differently apparently. Perhaps in XP11, which I would guess will be in late 2013 or 2014?http://xplanescenery.blogspot.com/2010/08/procedural-or-algorithmic.html Daniel Miller
October 9, 201015 yr Silly that Aerosoft didn't partner with Outerra... we would probably have a new sim sooner. I like the Outerra engine, but as Ben points out, it doesn't actually reproduce data... it takes what could be there and ads a lot of "calculated" noise to give things that extra bit of fidelity. As you can see he really only has one grass type throughout most of his videos. Same with the "tree"(s)..
October 13, 201015 yr Another "xplane tuesday" has gone by. And, again, the planes are being showcased. Maybe the only thing done/presentable are the planes? I say that because the background in a few of the shots look terrible, while it looks really good in others. Daniel Miller
October 13, 201015 yr I havn't seen anything that looks that great besides the lighting.... AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, RTX 4080S, Ram - 32GB, 32" 4K Monitor, WIN 11. Eric Escobar

October 14, 201015 yr Commercial Member Has a release date for flight been set?Perhaps you could ask that question in the appropriate forum. If that the case, x-plane-10 won't be ready for another 6 to 12 months. Just in time for flight.I've searched everywhere for that information and couldn't find it.Could you please post where you got that information?
October 14, 201015 yr Well the 6-12 months away ain't exactly true. He wants a Christmas release... And it will most probably go into beta by then.Is it true MSFS flight will be a Xbox 360 platform..."LIVE introduces a new level of connectivity to virtual flight, enhancing both the social and game play experiences of the title."Social? Next thing i'll hear is it can link with facebook?
October 14, 201015 yr If that the case, x-plane-10 won't be ready for another 6 to 12 months. Just in time for flight. What makes you say 6 to 12 months? I was always doubtful of the "holiday 2010"/Q1 2011 release, but I dont think its going to be late next year. And the chances of flight coming out next year are slim. Daniel Miller
