Any addons that won't work in windows 7? I have seen something about level D and PMDG not working in fs2004. Is this true? Any other addons that won't work, that i should know about...
The LDS 767 and all PMDG planes work just fine. Folks have reported issues with the CD version of the GA 727; the download version works. The early (non-WAAS) versions of the RXP GPS gauges don't work because of the 16 bit trainer. In general, no 16 bit application will work and you may have to get the latest installers for some things.DJ

In a nutshell, you don't install FS9 or FSX or any program/game in the default location due to the tight security Vista/7 has on it. As a matter of fact, the same security applies to the whole of the C: drive, hence installing it on a separate partition or drive. UAC has nothing to do with this security, so turning it off doesn't help.

In a nut shell you're wrong. I just purchased and installed both PSS 777 and 757 into my FS9 C programs files x86 folder. Both installed flawlessly and operate without issue. You need to setup Win7 or vista administrator and user account properly.

HelloThere are problems installing to C:\Program Files (x86)It is just that you have not run into them yet, so you refuse to believe those who warn against installing there. Some here may have more complex setups than yourself and have gone through this problem.FS9 and many of its third party utilities are not Windows 7 programs and know nothing about Windows 7's usage of the virtual store. It matters not that you are logged in as Administrator you still do not have full privileges over Program Files (x86), This is well documented.

You still don't understand what I said. Yes admin rights don't give you full access. You must setup user rights and permissions for each folder you want accessed. I'm using pretty much everything program that well known for FS9 and programs that was designed for FS2002 I have working. I'm running 3 computers, 3 displays over a fswide and simconnect setup, can't get more complex than that other that building my on home cockpit using electronic modules.

Just think, if you install to something like C:\FS2004 you'll never need to mess around with any kind of user rights and permissions, or UAC or anything else Windows throws at you.

That's true. But since I setup my user rights and permissions when I first installed Win7, I never had to mess around with anything. Everything installed and works as normal. But each his own, do what works best for you. But I was just pointing out the myth that FS9 and it's addons won't run properly in the x86 folder.

They won't unless you do all that tinkering. The general Joe is not aware of the issues before hand or how to do all that tweaking. He does know however how to install FS outside of the Program Files folder.

I'll prob install into just C drive or another drive, but not the Programs folder just to be safe. Are SATA drives faster than older drive types from like 5 years ago? Cause I have a new 500gb which is C drive and some other drive for my D drive (i think, not sure if my other drive is not SATA, might be...). If I install on SATA will it make a difference as in performance of the compuer or the performance of the sim?

HelloJust curious , how well is the loadmanager for your new PSS 757 working ?
:( :( :(
HelloLittle bit childish there Bill , I hope if you ever have need of support from Jim that he does not respond in the same manner. The plain facts are that for anyone buying W7 and FS9 or FSX nowhere in Microsofts provided documentation does it mention the need to alter the user permissions for Program Files (x86).Are you saying that Microsoft got the permissions wrong?.I often see you jump into discussions regarding installing into Program Files (x86) deriding folk who choose to install there. But you never offer any help to these users to back up your position, So just this once share your experience in these matters and then maybe we can put this issue to bed. There are a few here evidently not as experienced as yourself myself included who may benefit from any help you could give to correct Microsofts installation blunder.

Am I correct that if I will install FS2004 into C:/FS2004 directory, I will be able to keep UAC ON without interrupting normal FS2004 processes?ThanksDmitriy
