Automated Tweaking and Tuning tool for FSX

I can't use this tool :(
At 11:24AM EST I received a monitoring alert from the server. There was a problem due to the excesive ammount of symbolic links in the directory where I keep the fsx.cfg backups. I renamed that directory and created a new one, so in the future I'll simply keep backups for 24 hours AND for old backups you'll have to contact me directly.Sorry about the inconvenience. Everyting is working now.

The web-based tool doesn´t still work for me.I discovered post where you talked about Are these anywhere near correct settings for Core i5 @ 4.2 Ghz and GTX 570?I´m planning to use the "Stability" version of bufferpools tweak instead of "Performance" to minimize slowdowns near heavy sceneries.

[JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=14[bufferpools]UsePools=1RejectThreshold=98304[GRAPHICS]STALE_BUFFER_THRESHOLD=120HIGHMEMFIX=1[TERRAIN]SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT=2[Display]TextureMaxLoad=30[Main]FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.50[sCENERY] MAX_ASYNC_BATCHING_JOBS=2 // AFFINITY 14

Thanks for your great work putting this utility together, *******. I received and activated a new fsx.cfg and downloaded the external FPS Limiter. Where do I place the limiter files?It recommended that I disable Transparency Anti-aliasing. Where do I make that change?Thanks again

Hi Bill,Transparency Anti-Aliasing can be enabled/disabled using the nVidia control panel or nVidia Inspector. The Limiter files should be all in the FSX root directory, search the forum for speficic instructions as there are some guides that tell you exactly how to set it up correctly.

It really helps to have someone point you in the right direction. I was able to deal with both those issues after some searching and experimentation. I feel like I'm squeezing every bit of productivity out of my system by flying a big bird, in a rich environment with add-ons that make each flight special.I find it amazing that so many smart people have contributed their time and expertise to tweak FSX and keep it vibrant. Certainly FLIGHT has a strong base to build on and hopefully it will benefit from the efforts of dedicated flight simmers like yourself. Thanks.

I have FPS set to unlimited and externally limited to 20. Everything looks good but I'm getting consistent and annoying stutters when I switch TO or BETWEEN the 2D cockpit and the virtual cockpit. I don't have any other stuttering. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I don't know why but the stutters stopped. I'm not going to complain.

Help! I keep getting g3d.dll crashes! Do you think it has anything to do with selecting DX10 compatible waves and the other selection in the REX2 options menu? I have the latest drivers for the Nvidia GTX580 and just started getting constant d3d.dll crashes about a week ago.

Hi *******,First, Thanks for the tweaking tool - it certainly helped improve smoothness and gave me a good base from which to ask more questions - and here they are!:First, machine specs:Dell XPS M1730 laptop / Core2 Extreme x9000 OC'd to 3.8Ghz / dual Nvidia 9800M GTX SLI / 4gb RAM / Win7 Ult x641. It's fairly clear my CPU is bottlenecking performance, even at 3.8Ghz, so how can I load-up the GPU more for better balance? I realise FSX is optimised more for quad-core processors, but I'm stuck with my setup and for a laptop, it's pretty good on other games.2. Can you give me some hints for SLI settings in Nvidia Inspector, please, or are the default FSX settings OK?3. I am having trouble setting-up FPS Limiter 0.2; double-clicking on the JAR file just opens my Nokia OVI phone sync. app!! I made sure I have both 32-bit and 64-bit JRE versions, but I'm stumped with this one. Any ideas, please?4. In the absence of FPS_Limiter 0.2 I am using Antilag with success but not really sure about the RenderAheadLimit setting of 1 or 2 (or 0 to disable) with my hardware setup. Also, you advise setting FPS limit to *exactly* 20; presumably if there's good smoothness at 20 I can raise the limit a few at a time without other penalties? Sorry to ask about stuff you didn't write but I figured you might be able to help. Again, thanks for your tweak tool; as a FSX newbie it is a great help!Cheers, Andy

Well after temporarily giving up and settling on the fact that my ageing Q6600 2.4ghx and 512MB 8800GT (despite all of *******' tweaking program advice and cfg changes) can't quite handle FSX as most are talking about on here, I gave it a break and went back to it a few days ago.For some unknown reason, I'm now getting around 20-30 30fps in full screen mode (with external limiter) and this is generally nice and smooth but with pretty awful stuttering.Switching to windowed mode makes the fps drop to about 18-22 but the obvious stuttering seems to have gone (or is certainly far less noticeable).Has anyone else come across this phenomenon and is there a cure for it?

I'm no expert in these matters (I just experiment like most others here), but I would have thought that this is just an indicator that the limit of 30 is rather too ambitious. Try setting the external limiter to 20 instead.RegardsPete

If you try limiting frames to 20 in full screen mode do you still experience stutters?

I would love to have said that limiting it to 20fps cured it somewhat but sadly it is now just less smooth with the stutters still thrown in for good measure. :(

The Q6600 @ 2.4 Ghz is your problem!That CPU easily clocks to around 3.6 Ghz with proper cooling, please do that first and then tweak...

Thanks for the confirmation!Sadly it is part of a Dell XPS system which renders it impossible to overclock and I'm not going in there with pliers and soldering iron as various tutorials on the web suggest I should!!I think it's time to retire it and fund either an i5 or i7 system with up to date gfx card and a few new bells and whistles.:(
