Upcoming simulators.

Not sure if I can post this here since it's not related to aviation, but there are two new simulators that I stumbled upon this morning that caught my attention. They are both being developed by TML Studios, a German development group. One is a "multi transit" simulator covering the San Francisco bay area and the other is a subway train simulator that focuses on the London Underground. So far, they both look to be quite promising and the graphics are amazing. I just hope my computer doesn't blow up. These are both standalone programs. The San Francisco simulator (named simply "San Fransico" for now) covers most of San Francisco's major public transportation methods including the famous cable car, trams, and a variety of buses including the trolley bus. However, it does leave out that BART, which is San Fransisco's subway system. The features list sounds great so far. You can "free roam" and all the roads are accessible, which means no invisible walls or giant Xs blocking a road and a dynamic weather system is also featured. California's famous red light cameras will be also modeled as well.I'm curious as to see how that works. There aren't many screenshots, but there are videos.f0d028a6aa.jpgThe weather system:

As for the London Underground simulator, there isn't that much information available right now. What I do know so far is that it is modeled on the Circle Line and that the London Underground allowed them the take pictures of everything and gave them permission to use their logo. It's working title is currently "WoS Vol. 3: London - Circle Line."Here are some amazing screenshots of it in alpha/beta.:grab000005.jpggrab000002.jpggrab001107.jpggrab002302.jpgBoth are set for release in 2011. From the looks of it, the "San Francisco" will be released in mid-2011 and WoS Vol. 3 will be released in late 2011.Not sure if any of you guys are actually interested in any of this, but just throwing this out there for anyone who might be interested.More info can be found at their blog here.

I quite like some train sims and I know a few others who frequent Avsim do too, so that's interesting to see, cheers for posting it.Incidentally, I go in those particular London Underground Stations quite often, as I sometimes work in London and stay around Kensington and the Strand, and I have to say, those graphics look remarkably well done, for example, the brickwork arches at the back of that station do look exactly like that.Al

It's interesting to see 'High Street Kensington', 'Monument' and 'Cannon Street' in virtual form. From those screenshots it looks pretty impressive - they've done a really good job. I wonder if they've done 'South Kensington' and 'Gloucester Road' yet - I used to frequent these a lot.

These look cool. Their seems to be a simulator for just about anything these days. I must admit I found Train Sims a tad boring but Subway Simulators would probably be more interesting. Driving a Subway has the challenges of stop and go and getting the train stopped at the right spot in the station, as well as sticking to schedules. Haven't tried one yet.

I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

Are they intending to model every station on the Circle Line, including its recent extension to Hammersmith?Incidentally, the Circle Line ceased to be a "circle" in December 2009. Circle Line trains now start in Hammersmith, run along the current Hammersmith & City line to Edgware Road and then make a clockwise lap of the Circle line back to Edgeware Road where they reverse and head back to Hammersmith.

I actually got stopped by the Police at Gloucester Road Tube Station about three weeks ago when they had a large presence on the Underground that day owing to it being Remembrance Day, at the time I was wearing a coat that probably had the scent of one of our dogs who was in season at the time. The Police sniffer dog must have smelled that, so it was going crazy LOL. I had a fun time explaining that to the Police dog handler!Al

Hmmm, looks like there is some interest here about this. I'll keep you guys informed if I find any more information about these. I'm personally more partial towards the San Francisco simulator, although I do plan to buy both. I already own TML's first edition of WoS which simulated the PATH trains (really well made as well, despite a few bugs), and after operating subway trains as a living for several years now, I finally understand the feeling real world pilots get when they play FS. It's just that "something" that computer simulations aren't able to convey no matter how much effort is put in.

Doesn't look like they have done Gloucester Road yet, but they have done South Kensington.grab001706.jpggrab001805.jpggrab001405.jpggrab001307.jpgHere it is at night.:grab002204.jpggrab002204.jpg

Hmm, that's pretty interesting. I'm not completely sure if TML is going to model the extension, but I'd be surprised if they didn't since they just started development in October.

The more pictures you shw the better it looks!

Thanks for the South Kensington screenshots - looks remarkably like the real thing. The San Francisco simulator would be very nice to see too. Those steep rolling hills will make things very interesting. You might be able to see the route Steve McQueen's Ford Mustang and the hit-men Dodge Charger took during the 'Bullitt' car chase. I wonder if they will model any cars for use in that sim. Perhaps a freeware community will develop to add those. That would be really good - my nominations for cars to be added-in: 1968 Ford Mustang GT and Dodge Charger!

Circle line, eh... Are they implementing the perpetual delays as well? :(

They do have a car implemented right now. Its physics are it bit iffy though, but it is still in development, so I guess we'll see in the final product.

To be fair, the physics are a bit iffy on a real late Sixties Mustang, if you've ever driven one of them, you'll know exactly what I mean LOLAl

Thank you for mentioning these subway sims - I'll never be stuck and locked within Heathrow again! Just to let you know, Dobrev, that's Kensington High Street. Dave.

I hope they sort the physics engine out on the circle line because personally, from playing the u-bahn, i feel that it wasn't quite up to sratch. Brilliant graphics however. I still think Open BVE is the best train sim out there, it has a precise physics model and is absolutely free!!
