FSX eyepoint (virtual cockpit)

Featured Replies

Hi I've seen some discussion on editing the aircraft configuration file in fsx to change the viewpoint permanently. I've also learned that it takes trial and error to get the point you are looking for. Is there a place were the eyepoint coordinates are stored when you use the "shift-backspace" and other shortcut keys to temporarily change the viewpoint? My thing is that i will use the shortcut keys to get the exact viewpoint I want in the VC and then if that information is stored somewhere I can copy it and then paste it into the aircraft cfg file. I'm sure there is a short coming to this theory since it's so simple that someone else would have figured it out by now, but I just had to check. Thanks for the help!!!

I think if you then save the flight, it will be in the saved flight text file.

Normally the eyepoint coordinates are stored in the Aircraft.cfg. It should look like this:[Views]eyepoint=-0.9, -1.35, 2.95 //Longitudinal, Lateral, Vertical (feet) But there is also the chance to change the eyepoint insideFSX. Just look into your FSX handbook.

Best regards, Steffen

As mentioned above, you can retrieve the coordinates from a "saved flight" file, BUT the translationinto the changes needed for the aircraft.cfg file require converting meters to feet and transposingthe sequence of the coordinates.. not much fun!I've got a spreadsheet that will do the conversion... if you need it, send me a PM.

I'd like to get my hands on that spreadsheet Bert. If I understand correctly, I can basically manuever my position in the VC as I feel appropriate, then take information from the saved flight file, convert it with your spreadsheet, and end up with the three numbers I need to modify the eyepoint? If so, I'd bet a lot of folks would like those conversions you've done, especially since I have to modify the eyepoint for virtually every aircraft I buy.

resetting the viewpoint using a saved flight1. The .FLT saves any TRANSLATION and ROTATION of the camera from the default location.2. The VC camera entry in the .FLT file is the one having the VC guid {C95EAB58-9E4A-4E2A-A34C-D8D9D948F078}3. I love spreadsheets for stuff like this BUT Win7 calculator (surely Vista and maybe XP?) has a Conversion mode that does just fine - and there's scores or hundreds of websites that will do the conversion for you. Not everybody has MS Office anyway.4. aircraft cfg defines viewpoint in feet and in the xyz order of previous versions: i.e.longitudinal-lateral-elevation.5. FSX references (cameras, in this case) use LATERAL-ELEVATION-LONGITUDINAL ORDER - or what we would recognize as Y-Z-X order; this should mean just taking the 3rd element and moving it to the front of the 'set' to keep it consistent with the viewpoint definition order.6a. convert translation values to feet and combine with viewpoint values.-Or-6b. set viewpoint in aircraft.cfg to 0,0,0 and move the VC view where you want it and save. The saved translation values, when converted to feet, are EXACTLY the values you want for a viewpoint without the extra step of combining with original viewpoint location values. This is probably the simplest approach.Loyd

Wow. Black%20Eye.gif For knuckle draggers like me that sounds too hard all the coordinate bla bla. Sounds like very good information to work with though. I thought I'd toss this in for good measure. If you are (again like me and apish) FSUIPC has a really cool function that has helped me save a lot of time and agrivation. Not just for this but for any*.cfg work. Panels, Sound, etc. "Reload User Function". Map that to a button on your joy or keyboard. Then undock FS and call up whatever cfg file you want to work with. Hit that button and it re-reads the cfg filesof the aircraft that is open. HUGE time saver in my opinion as your cfg change is now virtually real time. Almost. Big%20Grin.gif . I understand RUF is in FS9. I could not locate it in the list of assignments on FSX which I use. Check for it in the main assignments in 9. Good Luck.Again backup all files before you change them. My two cents worth about one.Jet.

Respectfully,

FSX: Aircraft (reload)This may be assigned via the top UI in FSX: Options/Settings/Controls/Buttons-Keys. I use Ctrl-Shift-R for the keyboard assignment. No FSUIPC required.

If you don't mind spending a little money ... EZDok from Flight 1 provides the ability to adjust FS camera position and a lot more. Great utility but a bit of an effort to set up. Works great, though, once you have it going.

THANKS for the cntrl shft R! I did not know that existed. Either way I was able to repo and save my camera in less than 3 minutes using that. Poor unedumacketed manor in doint it. :(

I used FSX opus cameras

1.- in the aircraft.cfg put the eyepoint values to 0 like this: eyepoint=0.00, 0.00, 0.00 then save it and open fsx

2.-once in FSX open FSX Opus and go to camera, once open go to virtual and move the camera to the desire view point with the arrows of the Z, X, and Y axis (Z=Longitudinal position X=Lateral Position Y=Vertical position)

3.- copy the values on the bottom of each axis and covert them to foots (Ft.) Because FSX Opus values are in meters

4.- put these values in your aircraft.cfg file eyepoint section and save it!! vuala!!! that's it!!! next time you open your FSX the eyepoint will be exactly where you want, it is ok to put just the number and 3 decimals in your aircraft.cfg, you don't need to put all of the 6 decimals that FSX Opus Camera gives you, Example: Eyepoint=47.254, 2.354, 3.568

They may have already got it by now....The thread is almost 3 years old since the last post...
