THIS changed FSX for me

Hi Steve, is there any reason why the briefing should disappear from the kneeboard as soon as you switch to another page (eg checklist) and back?
No it doesn't normally, usually stays put. Anything else you can tell me? Drive arrangement, installation locations...Thanks; Steve.

Going through my notes, I have one report of this happening. The briefing stays put until a certain time into the flight where after it disappears if you choose another page. Not sure of the outcome, will check it...Steve
Wohoo Major Update!
Bugfixes (not a lot), route stays put in the route image and its position in the image is improved. Several things around flight gen and the map page when changing locations. Just testing the new oceanic tracks db and the effect of jetstreams on the flight. Now have two new options in the pull down menu, "Go to TOD" and "Fuel Consumption" with range report, plus a few other goodies!Best regards;Steve

Hi David,I'm not sure if this helps but the redirector html in progfiles\fsx\idealflight\IFlight.htm will now have:URL=file:///C:\ etc. - I've included "file:///" in front of the path.Steve

What’s new?Ideal Flight provides the most advanced auto route planner to date, but what of your precious hand crafted favourite collection of .PLN’s?Just drop them on IF and IF makes an Ideal Flight out of them! :-))Lots more too…Regards;Steve

Just got the email!! ThanksVersion [r] is now available. This is the full version and is a BIG upgrade. A re-index is required (right click menu at the startup page – Maintain indexes). Please finish your saved flights before upgrading. Some older profiles may not be upgradeable.Although released as the full release version, exciting service pack/feature upgrades are planned for the future. In this 1.0 release version [r], I have included a great deal of new functionality. Drop any plan onto IF and get an Ideal Flight of it with TOC & TOD, briefing, in-flight IF menu, and so on.New VOR to VOR plan builder option, still VOR to VOR, but does not stick to only Jet or Victor airways, and so considers all airway options for the routes.Goto Next Waypoint and Goto TOD means you can really get some landings in.Fully realised FS Menu ‘X’ mode, with save and load aircraft settings to/from the views/panels library, Restart IF Monitor – so you can load plans and change planes and places after going into the sim. The monitor will believe you wanted to move your aircraft and automatically process the pushback start point, and the debrief will display “Player placed aircraft on the ground” error, as no score can be calculated. To avoid that; once you have your starting position sorted out; choose “Restart IF Monitor” to ensure you have a valid starting point for the flight.Fuel reports in-sim and in the debrief for Aircraft Flight Parameter tuning.Organise your briefing as you would like it by moving the tiles into position left-right = top-bottom.Oceanic waypoints have been added around the world.Remove IF added Ai aircraft from the sim.And much more…Several UI problems around the flight generator and map screens have been rectified. If you dropped a file other than a .BMP on IF it could refuse to start until you remove the image IF thought you added (as it has no dimensions and was unhandled).A small change has been made that may now leave sensitive proximity detector equipment unaffected.Numerous other bugs have been resolved.Help pages print fine now but to print the images as well, please check the “print background images” option in your browser Page Setup.Several weather engine advances including Jetstreams better simulated.Several route image improvements have been made.A fuel report menu item has been added to calculate maximum and current fuel range and is displayed in the FSX message bar and debrief/assessment. The old fuel consumption text has been removed from the save game message.Increased accuracy with ETA and Fuel has been achieved, irrespective of winds (IF weather only for the moment).A separate menu has been included in FSX ADDONS menu for the advance time functions.Adjusted AP HDG for magvar when advancing time and route table headings are now better adjusted for magvar .Take off distance and landing stopping distance speed sensing can be set in the mission screen.Go to next WP and TOD “time to go” at present speed from the new location can be set in the mission screen.Advance to TOD puts you just away from the TOD for your aircraft and destination, irrespective of route types. A .PLN file must specify a destination location. If you have a TOD in the plan that is used, and the time taken is calculated along the plan.Advancing shows low fuel warning but allows time advance. Advance to TOD and WP functions ignore oncoming height of terrain.Change the briefing order from within the settings screen. Arrange the buttons in order by clicking them and they move right, then wrap around at the right hand end.NAT waypoints and more: Additional waypoints have been added to increase interest in otherwise empty ocean crossings; Included are North Atlantic Tracks and their counterparts around the world, normally used from west to east to follow jet streams. Set your altitude to produce cruise altitudes between 35,000ft to 4,2500ft when going west to east, take care when entering the jet stream from below, you may need to accelerate a little and slow your ascent to 300fpm. The flight planner will use these waypoints from east to west if it can, set cruise altitude below 35,000ft in this case. The direct to destination plan will use great circle routes.Load up a 747, set properties/max altitude to 42000ft and try CYJT to EINN. When you approach 35000-36000 look out to enter a Jetstream. You will need to use it to meet your ETA. You will see seamless weather generated all the way across the north Atlantic with IF Weather.Generally flight time estimates are quite accurate although longer distances and higher winds can decrease the accuracy of the estimated flight time a little. Remember to increase or decrease speed to adjust for ETA when getting closer to your destination.A re-index will create a waypoints.dat file in the if\config directory (if it is not found) and is read by the indexer to input additional waypoint and route data. Other routes can be added to this file, or existing sections edited out. Many other improvements have been made in all areas. This is a large and complex upgrade, lots of testing has been done, but even so, problems can arise. You can be assured that progress will continue and important problems will be resolved with updates made available as soon as possible.

HmmLooks interesting. Will give it a go soon and since all you guys are impressed by it so much I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up on the fan-list too. Cheers,Karan

Steve,I just downloaded the rc and finished a perfect flight (at least in my eyes) from YBBN to YSTW (ORBX addons installed). But how do I finish the flight (in IF) after having reached the gate, set brakes and engines off?. I had to close FSX but then the IF Flight was not recognized as finished! Some other points I miss (or did not find):1. There is no manual?2. FAQs are sparse.3. Are you planning to open a support forum.kind regardsHarry Martin (registered user)

I can answer the first part. When the plane has landed and you ar done with the flight go to the Ideal Flight drop down from the Add-on menu and select Save Flight or End Flight. I am doing this from memory but you get the gist..
