February 8, 201115 yr Hello all,I'm currently using My Traffic 2010 and I was wondering if there's a more superior add-on out there. I have noticed that when the slider for General Aviation is at 15%, I lose approximately 10 FPS on airline traffic, this is completely unacceptable to me. This loss is less when I select low resolution low animation option for the AI planes available on the My Traffic 2010 menu. I've been hearing about UT2, but was wondering if the FPS hit on UT2 is even more than My Traffic 2010. I'm really not looking for super-real looking AI traffic, just something half-way decent with great performance. Should I make the switch? Thanks.
February 9, 201115 yr If I had a dollar for every post I have seen on this topic I would be a rich man by now. I use UT2 so I can give you some info on that but cant compare the two as I have never used My Traffic. UT2's AI fly via real world routes on real word schedules. One of the biggest complaints I hear users complain about with this method is that late at night you will find vacant airports as UT2 will only populate a aircraft at a airport 15 - 20 min before its assigned departure time. So with UT2 you will not see alot of aircraft sitting parked for long periods of time. There have been alot of heated debate on the way UT2 injects traffic but it was done that way for performance reasons. In the UT2 UI you have the ability to set aircraft spawn distance anywhere from 5 miles out to 50 miles out. You also have the ability to turn off the jetway animations with the click of a button as well as the ability to turn off all traffic with the press of a button (which is nice if you find your performance taking a nose dive at a specific area or airport.) You can also reduce or increase traffic levels within FSX on the fly if needed. The GA traffic I think is its weakest point but I dont use any GA traffic just commercial. If I am flying a GA aircraft I turn it on but I almost always have it off. If you are a traffic junky there is the Power Pack where you can build your own schedules and keep you busy for hours/days on end. As far as FPS UT2 can run at 100% on my system with about a 5 - 10 FPS hit. To be honest with you I have recently started flying on VATSIM so huge amounts of traffic are not that important to me much anymore as I am now more involved with the flying aspect, navigation, communicating with ATC. I still do use the UT2 models to show the VASIM user aircraft. Hope that helps you a bit and if you have any other questions that I didnt cover just ask.Jim Jim Wenham
February 9, 201115 yr I used to have MyTrafficX also, but ultimately I simply hated the AI models. I found them ugly, with blury textures that dragged down the entire FSX experience. So, after reading many posts on this, I got UT2. The models are really very nice. I run it at 100% and have a 5-7 FPS hit (which is better than the hit I got from MTX). However, I did notice that many of these models seem to be original freeware AI models by for example AI Aardvark and The Fruit Stand. So ultimately, I wondered whether not to simply install the WoAI packages I have. I eventually decided not to, simply because then I'd have lots of FS9-style flightplans. UT2 gives a complete FSX addon, which to me is the important rhing right now. Besides, the UT2 manager program is also very good and very user friendly. By all means, it's a great addon with a rather minor FPS hit. I think it's better than MTX. February 9, 201115 yr I agree. UT2. It's the best we have for AI in FSX at this point. Best,Bill in Colorado "A good landing is one you can walk away from. An excellent landing is one you can taxi away from." Bill in Colorado: Retired Comm: ASEL/AMEL/Instrument CFI: ASEL/AMEL/Instrument
February 9, 201115 yr I use both.. UT2 for all the major stuff and MTX for those that are not present in UT2. They work together without problems (but you have to set up a few things.. a few minutes work). I run UT2 airline traffic @ 100%, GA 0% and MTX airlines 35% and GA 25%. In what way do you want it to be "superior"? In MTX you have option to choose between normal and low resolution models. Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
February 9, 201115 yr Moderator Another vote for UT2 here as well. I've been using it since it came out and love it. A plus for me since I have an older computer is that when I run airline traffic at 100% and fly into an airport like FSDT's KDFW, it only amounts to about a 3 FPS hit vs. no traffic at all. February 9, 201115 yr Author Thanks all. I will put down the money for UT2. Will let you know how it goes.I have a few questions on how traffic works on FSX.Add-ons like UT determine when planes push-back, when planes taxi, and when planes take-off, correct? What exactly is the relationship between an ATC add-ons like Radar Contact and UT2? Do the planes in UT2 taxi as per UT2 schedule and Radar Contact goes along for the ride when it comes to when it gives clearances? If someone can explain how all these add-ons come together, I would really appreciate it.
February 9, 201115 yr I've got MyTrafficX V5.2b PRO but I'm not to keen on the aircraft modeling. The world of AI aircraft look a lot better. Is there a payware program with better aircraft modeling?

February 10, 201115 yr Just downloaded and ran the UT2 demo. The aircraft models look the same or even worse than the MyTrafficX ones. Just my opinion...Erm
February 10, 201115 yr Commercial Member Just downloaded and ran the UT2 demo. The aircraft models look the same or even worse than the MyTrafficX ones. Just my opinion...ErmMany of them were provided to UT2 by Burkhard, the MyTrafficX author.I actually quite like them, and have both UT2 and MyTrafficX running, the latter filling in the holes left by the former. Both products give me much better frame rates for more traffic, even running together, than the default AI. But I can't compare them with other products I'm afraid as I've never used any others.RegardsPete Win10: 22H2 19045.2728 CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz. February 10, 201115 yr Many of them were provided to UT2 by Burkhard, the MyTrafficX author.Really? I looked through the folders and saw many models by AI Aardvark, DJC and The Fruit Stand. All in all, the models look a lot better to me than what I saw in MTX, mostly because the repaints themselves looked blurry to me. And yes, I did install the high-end models - still didn't look very good to me. February 10, 201115 yr Did anyone actually read the OP post?" I'm really not looking for super-real looking AI traffic, just something half-way decent with great performance"I dont know what is wrong with people here, are you brainwashed to react in a certain pre-programmed FSX mode or something?Nobody mentions Just Flights Traffic X, its absolutely great IMO, planes look good, better than UT2 for sure, and its frame friendly.
February 10, 201115 yr I dont know what is wrong with people here, are you brainwashed to react in a certain pre-programmed FSX mode or something?Interesting. I was about to say the exact same thing... but about you. Guess I'm pre-programmed too ;)
February 11, 201115 yr Commercial Member Really? I looked through the folders and saw many models by AI Aardvark, DJC and The Fruit Stand.Yes, very likely. I think about a third of the original UT2-released aircraft were licensed from MTX Pro. I don't know if the proportion holds up over the subsequent updates.Pete Win10: 22H2 19045.2728 CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz.
