Realair Duke and RealityXP 530/430

Featured Replies

Ok, this really hasn't anything to do with the Realair Duke per se except that getting it also probably makes me end up getting the Reality XP530 too.But I have one question! What is the operational benefit of purchasing and having two 530's (or 430's) installed? What can I do then that I can't do with just one?OT! I've been living a very satisfied life in FS9 cruising with airliners at FL320 on VATSIM, but having now experienced FSX with the ORX scenery of NW USA from 1000 feet I am definitely prepared to broaden my vision slightly! :D

Hi!It has a number of practical uses. The most important is a backup in case one fails. I use it primarily for terrain awareness in mountain areas and convenience for display of flight data. Bob.. :)

Thanks Bob!I didn't realize it had been updated with terrain data since the version we originally had for fs9! Way cool!!

Yep, plus if you check out their forums you'll be able to get a very recent navdata update... as in late 2010...I have three planes configured with the GNS430W with custom 3d bezels, and another 5 or so with VC implementation (manually configured).I'm a GA flyer and these gauges are a must! If you only pick one I might go with the 430 because it will fit into more airplanes.Bob, are you using the unlimited pack to crossfill those?

Ryan, thank you very much for the pointer to the more up to date navdata. It certainly makes the controllers on vatsim happier!I will probably buy both since I don't buy that many add-ons any for flightsimming anymore. I have some money to spend on that account! Sorry about the uneducated question but what does that crossfill really mean since I've seen it mentioned a few times!

Crossfill allows you to transfer the flightplan from one unit to the other.... Also buying the "unlimited" pack would allow you to run 2x 430's or 530's - but you need the base product(s) first......G

I understand - thanks for sharing!

The Reality XP GNS units are invaluable in an aircraft like the Duke that does not have a modern avionics suite.I personally use 530/430 combination with the unlimited pack. The unlimited pack is an expensive addition but the addition of being able to control either unit independently, crossfill to transfer flight plans between the units, and an integrated TCAD justifies the extra cost.Nice thing about unlimited is it will come with an extra 430/530 licence so you only need to buy one of the base 430 or 530 pacakge to add all the functionality of the unlimited pack.I use my 430 to enter the flightplan and then cross fill the plan to the 530. The 530's primary mission in my Duke is moving map/TCAD/TAWS but I still use all the other functions during the flight.

Yeah apparently the 09 update is the only legit one... but instructions can still be found on their forums for the 09 stuff.

That is correct if you want to install dual 430s or 530s.For the Duke, a 530/430 combination is actually the best fit,so you will end up buying a 430, a 530, and the unlimited packif you are starting from scratch. The good news is, that these gauges work very well in a lotof other aircraft! I have them installed in pretty much everyaircraft I fly, other than the Scout.

I see that you have to buy the 430/530 separately. I would like to buy the gauge/s for the duke and I'm not sure I should go for the 430, the 530 or both. What do you all think ? Decisions decisions.. :)Vic

If you are starting from scratch, I would buy the 530 for the Duke..and select the 530 Layout2 option in the configurator. It has a bigger screen and is more similar to the 500 that comes with FSX.If you have other planes, like the Lancair or Bonanza that can only fitthe (smaller) 430 into the panel - the 430 might be more versatile...But again, for the Duke, the 530 would be my choice.

Just wanted to check - do you need to buy the 530, 430 and the unlimited pack, or can you get the 530 and the unlimited pack to give you the 530, 430 and crossfill ?? Reading Nick's post & the Reality XP site that would seem to be the case as the unlimited pack comes with a 530 & 430 licence. Certainly if that gave me the option to run the 530 & 430, or a single 430 (in the L-39) that would do the job nicely !!Any help appreciated !!G

No you need to buy the 430 OR 530 AND the unlimited pack. If you want to use both the 430 + 530 in crossfill (shared flight plans) you need to spend 200 bucks.

Damn that is a shame .. .. Their site is pretty ambiguous about that, I read it and thought that it was otherwise.. ..G
