Why has the PMDG General Forum become a Forum about Hardware?

Featured Replies

Normally I am not the guy who is writing much, but latrely I was asking myself:Why are in the PMDG General Forum more new Topics about Hardware instead of Topics about PMDG related stuff?Don't get me wrong, I know that everyone wants to have a system that is more than capable of running FSX with as much addons as possible with smooth framerates. But Isn't one Thread, which contains everything regarding HW, enough? It is getting at least for me a little bit confusing here.So happy simming everyone :(

best regards,
Alexander Barger

Probably because everyone is waiting for a release and is looking for something else to talk about. People are strange animals.

There is a dedicated hardware forum though. From what i've seen PMDG doesn't mind it as long as you ask "will this run the NGX/747/MD11". But i do agree it is becoming full of somewhat obsolete material. I use the 'view new posts' button anyway, so don't traul through the entire forum to find the latest/most active thread.

The problem is,, people keep putting the same stuff!!No one wants to research anything, just get everything fed on a plate, i cannot stand it sometimes. A simple search into google and see the latest hardware etc will answer everything so much better!!

Actually PMDG simmers are probably some of the best out there and a lot of the regulars here really know their stuff, starting with Ryan. Who knows what web blog by someone who has no idea what they're talking about you might get doing a Google search. For the most part, (except when we're talking about the NGX release date, lol) this is a very mature forum. You can bet when I build my new system in a couple months I will be putting the spec/hardware here to see if anyone can help me fine tune things.Of course making a post that essentially asks someone to build your system for you is a bit over-the-top.

Isn't asking questions a forum of research? People want to build rigs that can run fsx, more specifically run fsx with PMDG products. What better place to ask then in a forum filled with PMDG users that may run similar hardware. I would much rather read thread and help a fellow simmer get sorted out then to listen to some armchair pilot go on and on about how much he/she knows about aviation. Bottom line if you don't like the threads contents don't read it. If the mods have a problem with it they will be the ones to put a stop to it.

If only it wasn't such a controversial topic, there could be a pinned post of FQA's and hardware of choice for FSX/FS9/XPlane in the hardware section people could link here instead of repeating the same threads over and over again, but it would need to be updated frequently given how fast new technologies are replaced. At the end of the day it's PMDG's decision to let those threads happen or not, just like threads like this complaining about it, which I have nothing against BTW

There is a dedicated hardware forum though. ...
Most people that post in the PMDG forum never posts anywhere else on AVSim for some weird reason.

Well, I do agree that certain posters here knows what they talk about, but the majority are kinda clueless, at least from what I gather.

This is a forum where people are free to openly discuss all things flight sim related, as long as it adheres to PMDG's guidelines. It is what a forum is for. This is not a newsfeed, it is a discussion forum. To get frustrated about people asking questions on a forum is similar to getting frustrated about people talking on a phone, or typing on a keyboard.

Perhaps a sticky topic with the specs recommended by the PMDG team would work as people wouldn't have to ask, they would see the recommendations straight up front?Just a thought...:(

And of course the other problem with them putting up recommened specs is that it could be obsolete or inaccurate tomorrow. I'm one of the guys looking to spend a fair bit of money getting the right setup for when ngx is released. I'm not buying anything until it's released because i want the absolute best I can get. The other consideration is MSFlight. Very little information is available right now but hopefully we will start to get some idea of whether it's going to be more balanced between CPU and gpu power. Right now it seems like i7 2500k is the best but what if MSFlight can use 6 cores effectively? All of the sudden those who chose to save some money are not seeing the full potential of this next edition in flight simulator. It's very hard to future proof technology for more than a year or so and that's why I'm waiting til I know what's available and what's required to make the experience as good as possible.Cheersmike Kendall

I don't mind the hardware questions - I think people know we have a knowledgeable bunch of people here with respect to that stuff and that's why people are asking here. People are also wanting to upgrade in preparation for the NGX, which is surely something that we support!
