How has the announcement of MS Flight effected your FS plans?

Does anyone know if FSUIPC or simmconnect will be used for Flight? Or will an entirely different program likely be made? Too early to know? Thinking.gif
From what I've read elsewhere Pete Dowson won't be working on a version of FSUIPC for Flight.

At this moment in time I am more concerned with Horizon Simulations getting their act together, and actually releasing the final three volumes of VFR Scotland before the Sun runs out of hydrogen fuel.
Lol. Me too. Fed up with circling the Orkneys.

Perspective: we have 30 projects in production for FSX. We have 0 projects in production for Flight. Speculation is rife, but the fact is, Flight is not being developed for right now because it's not released yet, and developers don't make money by developing for unreleased platforms. We are already on record as having said we will develop for Flight, but right now we're making a good healthy living from FSX and will continue to do so for many years to come. Anyone who has stopped purchasing FSX addons on the basis of all the Flight speculation, rumors about developers, rumors about sales etc, is doing two things: depriving themselves of the absolute best add ons ever released in the history of our hobby, and secondly, hurting FSX developers who need your support more than ever in the lead up to Flight's release. Pull the rug from under FSX developers now, and you won't ever see 3rd party add ons for Flight. Don't be too shortsighted about our tiny industry :)

Cheers,

At first read, I thought the obvious caution embedded in the title question was meant to entertain-alarm (what headlines news and reality shows do these days), but then I noticed what could be a sudden stop in a couple of hot, to-be-released titles. For example, the photos and talk about PMDG's NGX, and Digital Aviation/Aerosoft's CRJ stopped. It's almost like only those projects that were past a specific production point are moving ahead. It makes one wonder if MS has announced to its inner circle that "Flight" is going to be that different from FSX, and that close to release. As it has been pointed out, other developers offered discounts in very popular products. What developer wouldn't want to sell their MS Flight-compatible add-ons at the same time MS Flight comes out and take advantage of the buying wave? My plans are to remain cautiously optimistic. I still use FS9 and FSX and, just last week, purchased add-ons for FSX. Hmmm. Dave Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I'm feeling the same way. I haven't snapped shut the wallet with a lock and key, lol....but merely taking a rest...and sitting in the bush watching it all play out. I absolutely LOVE every kick-butt purchase from high-end FSX scenery and planes!!! But...that being stated, something is really tapping me on the shoulder and saying..."Pssst...FLIGHT is going to blow everything away...and all will flock in droves...users and DEVELOPERS!"... (smile). In fact, I feel that M.S. KNOWS it had better impress the bejesus out of us all...for they have seen what 3rd party DEVS can produce, and you mean to tell me, that with all of M.S.'s billions...they can't find cream-of-the-crop, and graduated-in-their-field professionals to code out something truly magnificent compared to all prior flight simulation, and their driving code-engine platforms?!?!? I think not...and have the highest expectation that FLIGHT will be like going from FS2002 to FSX and beyond... In fact, I think that the teasers on their site are RED HERRINGS and purposely dumbed-down! What will be delivered will bring M.S. once again to the top of their field. My two...er...twenty cents... :)Mitch

What would seem logical to me, is that MS would make 3rd party content available via an app store model in "Live" or something like it. If something like this happens, then I would think that 3rd party devs would have to look at the revenue model and decide if it would make sense. I could easily see a situation where providing Flight content would be so enticing that FSX dev ends quickly, but just as easily see where FSX development could continue. To some extent it would depend on what sort of tools if any are released for devs. If Flight still uses a mixture of raster, vector, and 3d model source data for scenery then it's conceivable that the same source data could be used for FSX/Flight, though the hard spot would be in the dll/gau executable aspect of source data, more for aircraft.Another revenue aspect would be in the "mission" system and I could see developing a market for in-sim resources using real money like we see in other gaming models.Gives a new meaning to angry birds.scott s..

FSX is what it is but I have no faith in flight. MS and all of thier releases lately have all been for the casual gamer. Since the departure of ACES I have no faith that it wont just be a civilian HAWX. Thats where the money is spent, in casual gaming and MS seems to love to cash in on it. We are a small minority to MS and I have a feeling they could care less.My .02c
