Going Military

Featured Replies

Gentelmen,I'm going military. And, no I don't mean in joining the military ( I don't belive in murdering my fellow humans; least yet be killed foolishly)...I mean I want to fly a military airplane. I would like to get your advice. I got disappointed with SimLabs Concorde (the graphics..too dull and light--not HD-Look-Quality).I"m looking for something fast (very fast), modern, great functionality and of great quality.Your Suggestions are most welcomed !Johhny

I'm not so sure about all the great stuff, but the Capt Sims C-130X meets a lot of your specs. I like the Wilco A400M airbus military but it has a couple of really dumb fuzzy panels but the PFD and MDF is super sharp and it flies good. Lots of nice repaints available. The IRIS TexanII military trainer is about as good as it gets for FSX. I have all of these.Ray

Thank you guys....Looking ast the Vertical Reality SuperHornet, it seems to be the real deal out there!
VRS Superbug +1
Oh My Goose-Nest, and I thought I had seen it all. This thing is like I had never seen before. Wow, I wish I could get my refund on my Concorde..I know they are 2 very different aircrafts but this one (VRS) is Super !

I'd also look at the A2A Spitfire, if you want something less complex but still incredibly realistic. The only other military option is outside of FSX. The DCS A-10c has even better graphics and simulation depth than the VRS SuperBug. And it runs a lot better than FSX ever did on my PC.Cheers,Noel.

Don't see any problem on that fine Concorde, but preferences may differ of course. I own the Superbug too and she's a fine ship, indeed. But you won't get as fast as the Conc, just to tease ya. Big%20Grin.gif She's doing Mach 2.0+ supercruise, no 2 minute peak performance rides.Virtualwombat is right about the A2A though, that's military style from the very basics and always worth a flight when you got rid of that anti-g-suit of yours.

Agreed, opinions vary, and I think the Concorde-X cockpit is fantastic. The VRS Superbug and A2A simulations Accu-sim aircraft are excellent choices as well. Outside of FSX, DCS A10-C is the undisputed king of combat aircraft simulations.

I absolutely love by VRS SuperBug too. With the upcoming TacPac, it is even getting better. Also my votes to the A2A Spitfire; it's amazing. I'm just exploring the DCS A-10C simulation. Fantastic graphics and systems. But if you have to choose one: go for the FSX VRS SuperBug!

I don't think you can go wrong with the the VRS F/A 18 E Super Hornet if you are looking for a high performance fighter. The initial flight tutorial has you shooting down commercial airliners near Portland, OR. I personally fail to see the training value for that part but it is in the upper tier of FSX designs in the VC department.Ray

The VRS Superbug is THE BEST military plane currently produced for MSFS. I wrote the Avsim FS9 Superbug review. If I can't convince you with that review, then don't buy it.

+1 for the SuperBug...it's amazing! Shooting and trapping it with Javier's Nimitz and AI Carriers2 is a total rush, and a real test of one's abilities as an aviator. My hat is truly off to the USN and USMC folks who do it for real every day!I'm seriously considering the DCS A-10c as well...haven't yet pulled the trigger on it, but getting closer....The IRIS A-10 for FSX is also very good.

DSC A-10C is also extremely good. The first time you start those engines... just wow. The sounds are so good that you really get the feeling of siiting int hat pit. Let alone the beautiful graphcis of the cockpit. And then, of course, there's the systems. It's like flying a military version of the Leonardo maddog... except with better visuals!

In my opinion, there is nothing for home simulation that rivals the DCS A-10C for authenticity of systems, flight model, sounds, failures, and damage modeling, not even the Leonardo Maddog, Level D 767, or PMDG MD-11. There are some really good aircraft for FSX, but FSX has limitations that a custom built simulator for a specific aircraft (DCS A-10C) does not have. DCS A10-C is based on the version designed by Eagle Dynamics for the US Air Force for training A-10C pilots, and that says it all about the realism.
