June 13, 201114 yr If it were a more widespread problem of FSX itself, I would think that 99% of the posts in Avsim and other FS forums would be dedicated to the issue. Please have a look herehttp://forum.avsim.net/forum/262-crash-to-desktop-ctd-forum/ John doe
June 13, 201114 yr Moderator Please have a look herehttp://forum.avsim.net/forum/262-crash-to-desktop-ctd-forum/Yes, I know that subforum, however there are only about 65 new topics started since Jan 4th. In that 65 topics, 5 to 10 of those are from a guy called "Sonic5" that seems to get a CTD just from turning his computer on, to other CTDs from payware products causing them, to the UIcore.dll, RAM problems, etc. Basically, what I am getting at is that when you get 65 new topics on the subect 6 months into the year, subtract out Sonic5's issues, and things related to payware addons causing problems, you may have 40 issues or 6.5 new posts CTD related per month, which is hardly many considering the scope of how many people own or use FSX. Out of those 40 or so, many seem to be related to harware or OS problems, but not much to do with just FSX installed on a fresh copy of Windows, new drivers, etc. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

Then there's those who don't post on forums. You can't deny FSX has been very unstable John doe
June 13, 201114 yr Moderator You can't deny FSX has been very unstableI can deny it because i've never had a problem with it unless I made a bone head move myself to screw it up like flubbing an install of an addon, forgetting to layer a scenery correctly, having a syntax error in one of my xml file, etc. Then again, my computer is an FSX only computer, has had the OS, drivers, FSX, and basically everything setup by a professional than deals in setting up sims. I haven't done anything to the shaders, chased video card drivers, used any unusual FSX.cfg tweaks, used any external FPS limiters, or any other sideshow FSX programs (besides ASA and UT2) than can cause potential problems, or applied any number of FSX.cfg tweaks that if you dont know how they work can cause problems.Sticking to that formula has let me enjoy FSX for a little over 3 years now on the same install, run a wide variety of addon sceneries/airports and a/c, with no problems, so yes I think it very stable. June 13, 201114 yr Author I used to get CTD's all the timeI fixed them by rebuilding my fsx.cfg file, not using bufferpools, not locking my framerates, and not using multisampling in the Nvidia settings.I also got rid of the texturemaxload line, the more stock the fsx cfg file the betterI'm confident this is the issue... More and more users are pushing the limits. Things like LOD radius were never intended to be past 4.5 (the max of in-game slider), but we go higher. In fact I have a fresh new install, totally formatted everything, and got my little G3D.dll just now! Yippe! Of course I changed LOD to 6.5 and I'm sure that's why it happened (Flying in Orbx land never seems to help)Kind of a bummer since LOD 4.5 looks like crap... blurry tiles just past my wings etc.I guess my question to users without the CTD's - are you running any tweaks or FSX.cfg changes that are outside the normal operating envelope? My system is stable... rock solid.... tested with all the usual program (Intel Burn/linpack, P95, OCCT) it's been memtested, etc etc. I play plenty of other games without errors. That's why I believe the CTD's are user edits that wouldn't normally be in FSX.OH well, I'll just wait for Flight and run 4.5 for the time being. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
June 13, 201114 yr Ye I use some tweaks, usepools=0=, affinitymask, highmemfix, That's about it, but I got CTDs with default cfg tooMust say CTDs aren't as bad as last time I had FSX installed. Still sucks after a 2 hour flight tho John doe
June 13, 201114 yr Are your frames locked at unlimited? Have you tried a higher tbm setting like 90 or 120? Have you not made changes to the fsx settings in game after tweaking the fsx.cfg file? Do you have the uianimation core dll file in your fsx folder?
June 13, 201114 yr Sorry... but that's not true at all. I'm honestly stunned that you believe that hardware is rarely an issue with regards to CTDs.I know that overclocking (hardware issue) has been shown to cause an unstable FSX for some. For others they never have any problems with their overclocking.I've seen discussion after discussion after discussion... and at no point have I been able to conclude it's all FSX's fault. So true no CTD here :-) André
June 13, 201114 yr OH well, I'll just wait for Flight and run 4.5 for the time being.Try running 5.5 - it looks pretty darn real and I've not had a single CTD with it..You can't deny FSX has been very unstableFSX has been rock solid on my system with Acceleration, Orbx scenery, and various payware aircraft..So yes, I'll deny it :( Bert

June 14, 201114 yr Author Yeah I had the external limiter for a long time but I think that was another culprit... | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

June 14, 201114 yr Author well im now using the antilag oneGood luck... that Arhthur0 guy here had CTD's with that one especially. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
June 15, 201114 yr Good luck... that Arhthur0 guy here had CTD's with that one especially.Yep, now I'm using the old (Java) one and didn't get a single CTD since for over a month flying with high settings, tweaks (BP=0), PMDG J41, Orbx FTX NA around Seattle,... but some are using it and they don't get CTD and some are not using it and get CTD... it's a mystery :wacko:The only thing we all have in common is FSX.
