Is Airsimmer a320 worth it?

Bonjour, Jean-Claude!

how do you circumvent the APU CTD?
To be honest I have never had an APU related CTD in around 20 flights I've made so far.BTW: Do you call for External Power first (form MCDU requests) before you turn on APU?If yes/no - check what happens if you do the opposite - requesting / not requesting (just thinking aloud).

Hi Rafal,Interesting suggestion to remove the 2D panels, but in this case how do you circumvent the APU CTD? I usually start my session in the 2D, fire up the APU, and then switch to VC for the remaining part of the flight, this VC is so well designed! The APU start is by the way the only CTD that I experienced with this aircraft, and I use it several times a week with few issues if any. Best regards,
Hi Jean-Claude,It's sounds like you are flying the Advanced Beta test version, the APU starts fine in the VC for Basic customers. I should make it clear I have no control over release dates, I was informed of projected release date’s however I am not in a position to release that information to anyone outside of the team.I initially wanted to keep my comments on this thread brief, if anyone has any questions feel free to PM me or if it's tech related post over on the AS forums.Cheers

Rafal,Could you please tell me what is the best sensitivities settings and null zones? I posted my question in the support forum and I have not gotten a reply.

Hi Rafal and Rob,I believe I asked the wrong question in the wrong forum, you are right Rob this problem is related to the Advanced model, I am glad to learn that it does not exist with the basic version. I will also try the request for external power in the MCDU before starting the APU Rafal just for the sake of it, we never know. Thanks to both.

After making 20+ flights in the Airsimmer Basic A320, I can give you an update on my earlier comments about it:Pros:1. Great VC and Exterior. The best VC I have seen in FS9 as good as the Airbus X.2. Good FBW. I am no expert in the real Airbus but from what I have seen in documentaries and read in forums it is seemed the Airsimmer does it really well.3. Great Sounds. Especially the cockpit sounds.4. The Tablet PC is great to add liveries, take off calculations and loading your plane while FS is running. Cons:1. Not all FMC pages are accessible. You can't import flight plans from FS, FSNAV nor FSBuild. Nor you can save them. So, you have to enter the route using the aiways evertime you fly. Also, you cannot know what is your OPT Altitude, you have to calculate it.2. Time Acceleration. In my first flight, I dared and used 16x and the plane went into spirals. I went back to 1x and recovered from the spiral, but the auto-throttle got stuck on Alfa Floor. I turned it off and I was flying a safe speed but still it wouldn't return to CLB thrust and had to exit the FS. So, the next flight I tried 8x, while it didn't go out of control, the pitch started going up and down. 4x is the maximum I could use and still I had to return to 1x every once in while to stabilize the pitch and roll. All of the complex planes I have flown in FS(PMDG, Wilco, Level-d, Maddog, PSS and iFly) allow at least 8x. I can't fly without, I know some here prefer not to use it but I do. 3. Flying approaches manually. At first, I had a hard time landing, but after getting a new joystick(logitech attack 3) and by setting the sensitivities to max and minimal null zones, I started getting the plane to the centreline with ease. However, a new problem arose. Just as I try to flare, the plane will pitch down, so I end up making a 350-400 FPM touchdowns(

). On take offs, right after raising the gear, the plane makes a sudden pitch up. As for CTDs, after 20+ flights I had one CTD when I hadn't touched or done anything. A second CTD happened when I was at the and I was looking around the VC and I tried to click the jump seat to open it. The bottom line: It is a good plane and I will buy the Advanced version when it comes out even if I can't use more than 4x acceleration and I read good reviews about it. From what I read in the forums, the Advanced version is being worked on and most of the Basic issues had been resolved. So, for now I will ask for a refund and go back to the Wilco which by the way, I have found fixes for its bugs. Rafal and Rob thanks for all the help . smile.gif

Thanks very much for your mini-review. It helps me a lot on deciding this bird. I think I'll stick with Wilco since I've just successfully merge all version with CLS or Overland and I'm happy with the result so far :D

Hello, nam1394!Thank you for your insight. It is always nice to read what other people think of a product.I believe the more views of something you have, the more accurate the picture is.Now I hope you don't mind if I comment on some of your points.I mean the Cons as I simply agree with the Pros (and I could add much more here).

Not all FMC pages are accessible
Like we discussed before, it is the result of the version being BASIC. By the way, which MCDU pages/options do you really miss here?
You can't import flight plans (...) Nor you can save them
True. Certainly not a bug of any kind. But I agree it would be a useful feature to have.Fortunately entering a short/medium haul flightplan with airways takes less than going to the toilet. So not a stopover again.
you cannot know what is your OPT Altitude, you have to calculate it
Right. On the other hand I don't know about you, but I always calculate the ALT myself and follow it, which I guess is more easy on short haul aircraft (less fuel and no step climbs usually).Do you always follow the OPT ALT in the MCDU/FMC or rather fly at the precalculated flight level from your flightplan (that's how I do it)?
Time Acceleration
Remember it is not supported by any developers. Realistic addons are assumed to be flown in realistic conditions.Of course I understand you like this feature, but let's not create an impression it is a real disadvantage of an addon. At least that's my opinion.
Just as I try to flare, the plane will pitch down (...) On take offs, right after raising the gear, the plane makes a sudden pitch up
Let's wait and see what Rob says, but I have neither experienced that myself nor heard of anyone else having it. So, it looks like a problem on your side, which could most probably be eventually solved.
As for CTDs, after 20+ flights I had one CTD
Just like me. And I know why I got it. So good statistics, all in all. :(
I will ask for a refund and go back to the Wilco
Respect for your decision. I once got a refund (1.5 years ago) but now I will not. After some initial problems I already solved (mostly due to the need of thorough controllers assignments&callibration and learning to fly Airbus like an Airbus) I find this product to be excellent. It is not perfect of course, so I am also waiting for further patches (we never have enough of them, do we?) and for the advanced version (although in fact this one is already pretty advanced). But I want to make one thing clear: although not perfect, it still turns out to be one of the best aircraft ever in my MFS hangar. 100% flyable for me at the moment. I'm flying nothing else now (that's me, I often get hooked on something). As for Wilco/FeelThere A32X, well.... each to their own.nam1934, thanks for being frank and objective.Have fun with Wilco and see you in the virtual skies we all share!

Some info below regarding flare mode..FlareMode Transition to flare mode occurs at 50' RA during landing.System memorizes pitch attitude at 50' and begins to progressively reduce pitch, forcing pilot to flare the aircraftIn the event of a go-around, transition to flight mode occurs again at 50' RA.So yes the aircraft does command a nose down input, as long as you are flying the correct approach speed for your weight the flare will feel completely natural. Not sure about the pitch up at gear retraction, I've never heard of that being reported and never seen it happen myself. It could be due to incorrect V speeds or CG.The landing gear shouldn't affect the pitch mode except for a transition from alternate law to direct law.Posted on my iPhone so apologies if this comes out strange.Regards

Hey Rafal, I know it is the basic and it is a fine addon and if it was the Advanced I wouldn't ask for a refund. And I miss the INIT B, PROG and FUEL PRED.I never said it was that not being able to save a route was a bug, but it is a missing feature .I mentioned that you can enter the rout via airways, but still I need to be able save plans. Trust me, I like to do things like the pros, if I have the time and I don't always have it.As for time acceleration, yes it is not supported but it works with all complex planes I have used. PMDG, MADDOG, Level-d(up to 8X), Wilco and even PSS. I also mentioned it was not a deal breaker to me when it comes to Airsimmer. Yes, CTDs are statistically good. I have to admit they are not as common as I had heard before trying it.If I will get a really good discount for upgrading to the Advanced, I won't ask for refund. I am definitely going to buy the Advanced version. For anybody who is not looking for a complete FMC operation, this is a good addon plane. Hey Rob,The Auto-throttle is controling the approach speed not me and it doesn't hold the approach speed defined in the pref page by the way. I posted the video demonstrating the pitch down. For the take off, I used the tablet PC to load the plane and it gave me the CG and the V speeds. B Regards

Can anyone say if AS is still holding fast to the 'no upgrade to Advanced' policy? I would not want to buy both and Advanced seems more to my liking - always was.

Indeed, I find this a really strange route to take. After reading this thread, and changing my mind about 1000 times already on whether to buy or not, I had just about decided to give this a go. But then if the basic turns out to be good, I'd definitely want to upgrade it if (and I do still think it's an enormous 'if') the advanced version ever comes out. OK, I understand it's the developer's choice as to how they price their product range, but with all the upset that Airsimmer has caused, I think it may be a nice gesture to offer an upgrade option. Oh dear, what to do? Just buy the existing basic, which from what Rafal & Rob say is pretty good (I trust their opinions) - wait for the advanced, which I must say I don't really believe will ever see the light of day - though I hope to be proved completely wrong. I guess another year won't hurt. Hey, who knows, maybe the Airliner XP version will pop up again :(

In the same boat Gavin, wondering about rolling the dice to see if Basic behaves itself on my setup. But I would definitely prefer Adv. Agree 100% AS should really go all out to repair their rep - really poor business practices in the past, from 'ET' to first buggy Basic. An upgrade discount is definitely a good idea imho, but there's AS again, defying the norm for the sake of monetary need/gain.Despite all that, I was around when they FIRST appeared, then disappeared. Literally years passed before their forum came online and they 'reappeared' to great welcome (before the wildfires broke out :( ) No doubt they popped up because AXP had announced their development. AS has been glacially slow, but to their credit, just as sure, and are sloooooooooowly and painfully producing small steps forward. I just wonder if their Adv version will see stable flight before fs9 finally 'dies' on all our drives...

Well, as I said the current version is good, if you didn't have a problem with missing some FMC pages and the time acceleration limit of 4X(I know Rafal wants to strangle me right nowbiggrin.gif).

Oh dear, what to do?
Here comes me, your dear fellow simmer! :biggrin:Now seriously, there is no-one else here (or there) to decide on behalf of you and your fellow wallet (of an undefined thickness by the way). So I bet in the face of risking owing you 28 euro, I will not say 'BUY'. But my bottomline is (I must really stop these posts before someone starts thinking I work for AirSimmer in the commercial department):I don't know if the Advanced gets released. It is likely now but nothing is certain until it is in your hand, so no words will guarantee anything. Many people tired of waiting for a 737NG bought another 737NG instead and are very happy to fly it every time they feel like.I was waiting for another official release of AirSimmer for 1.5 years. In the meantime I was flying airbuses in my nightdreams only. One day I thought (I admit I was encouraged by the fact Rob took over the official support): WTH, I paid E20+ two days ago for shopping in Tesco and already ate up almost everything. All that's left after went down in the pipes.I will buy, tweak it if necessary, ask Rob for help, do some (actually a lot of) Airbus reading, repolish my controllers and enjoy this Airbus. All in all I can take a second refund (believe me it is a fast and painless process with Flight1).So I did. There was some frustration in the beginning. But thanks to the patience I learned with age, as well as helpful hands of Rob and Kirk, I got this bird flying very fine.Just like Toulouse birdies should (OK, not exactly, but the million times difference in price does explain a bit, lol).I would like to repeat something one more time: 90% of my problems (and I guess problems of most other AS refunders) turned out NOT to be the exact 'guilt' of this product. To master flying it enjoyably and properly you absolutely NEED to consider two things (think of it even before you buy): - do a lot of airbus flight philosophy reading (I have great links for anyone) as this is NOT just a boeing from Europe - treating it like that will get you a refund the next day to come- take care of your controllers: their assignments, callibration and sensitivity (it will take some time but pays back for sure) - that was my pain for a whileNow my iFly is sleeping in a hangar (gave it the best hangar for the merits of its wonderfulness though) together with my CH yoke. I'll certainly come back to them when I am fed up with airbusing.I fly the A320 from point A to point B be without any stopovers. I have already performed around 30 flights in different conditions, at different altitudes and for different distances (CFM only for now). The fact it is called the 'Basic' version does not bother me at all as I find it advanced enough to learn a lot about Airbus flightdeck and flying techniques. In my view one thing that needs to be patched in future is the SID and STAR reading by the MCDU. Sometimes after choosing a procedure you will see strange circles or arcs drawn on the ND.In such case I make some manual corrections in the flightplan by removing, changing or adding particular waypoints. It requires an extra minute but I hope it will be fixed in future.Well, If someone asked me 'how much would you value a compensation for one day of waiting for something you would like to have multiplied by the number of days you are doing so?"I guess the answered price would have to be muuuch higher than what I paid for this addon. My friends, sorry for being so boring and repetitive (I am yawning myself when rereading these words). icon_yawn.gifNow I feel OK as there is nothing else I can say to recommend something to someone is such a way that I could feel little responsible in case someone sees it later as icon_shit.gif .I am not getting a second refund because I like this airbus very much and I am having a lot of fun (and learning) when flying it.I wish Bryan York would make an FSCrew version for this bird, like for iFly, but I am afraid it may not happen (I've met with a mixed reception to say at best). I can live without it though. If the Advanced comes one day (nobody knows that for 100%, right?) I will buy it with a discount or without (though I'd certainly prefer the first option). The days and nights of fun I had with the Basic will completely justify a second transaction for me.And last but not least: there will for 99% be no other Airbus for FS9.So unless you're going FSX (is there a serious one NOW by the way?), tap the blue rhino on its behind.rhino23-1.gif:( Did I make the choice easier now?I don't think so, I should write philosophical dissertations or lullabies.
