Achievements in Microsoft Flight?

Featured Replies

In other games on the Windows LIVE platform, you can be given achievements for certain feats that you achieve in the game, would this work in Flight? Would you want this to be a feature of the game? Please share your thoughts. smile.gifI myself, would love this to be added. If I managed to e.g. land a MD-11 safely, that encountered a total hydraulics failure, losing most control of the vertical and horizontal movement of the plane. I would totally want to be rewarded for that, and be something that I could show off to my friends. happy.gif Or even if I managed to safely ditch my A320 in the Hudson after losing all engines shortly after taking off from La Guardia due to a bird strike rolleyes.gifI think It could work very well, it would also add to the social aspect of the game. *btw, when using the term 'game' it is an umbrella term, it also includes simulation and racing games, and everything in-between. Do not twist my words.

"A video game is an electronic form of play that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device" - the definition of the word "videogame", game is the common shorthand for videogame. Just being clear.

It shames me to say I receive a certain amount of satisfaction from chasing achievements. :( Now that being said, the devil is in the details of the particular goals. If it's lame things like "Fly under 30 bridges" or some such nonsense I'll be disappointed. If it's simulator and not game based goals, I'd be pleased.

Yeah my point exactly, but I would like a few crazy things as well, like secret achievements such as e.g. "find santas hideout in the north pole" LMAO.gifJamie ♥

I would prefer something like a pilot carrier. Letting me fly only easier planes and then more difficult ones. Of course this should allow to let me choose if i want to use default or add-on aircraft.

BE BOLD .. the only reason it would shame you is because you are worried about what others might think.... be bold!

Hi Angel (don't mind if I use that, it's shorter and saves typing lol). I think you've hit on something here. Achievements were ofcourse in FSX but at a basic level and something which you just collected. I think this could definately be part of the single player and online 'persistant' experiance, and it would be nice if the rewards affected gameplay just a little, maybe releasing vintage planes or scenery or more missions. I would be a little upset If they closed off parts of the world because you hadn't completed the training missions, but they could certainly release some easter eggs, that would be great.Online play intrigues me. The marketing strategy for a microsoft flight 'store' needs a little imputas to make it sell to the masses and I think this will come from the online experiance, if they get this right and make this accesible to non flyers and experts alike I can see the world of Flight really taking off. Theres so much we don't know about the online experiance yet and I can see there being some massive changes to what previous Flight Simulator experiances have delivered online and I can see this being a major selling point of the game.Cheers,Dave.

I completely agree! That's also a good point, being rewarded with in gamerewards would be nice! I know this may seem completely out of the question, butfor an example Portal 2 has an online store, but the only things you can buy asof now is added objects, skins and other things that will be added through yourcharacter through the customization section. That's the way Portal 2 does it,but you also unlock new items to add to your character as you progress throughthe story. I don't know how it would work, or even if it would (probablynot)... but it’s an idea which can be expanded upon (my idea most likely won’thappen, but I mean the same kind of concept would be nice). To be able unlocke.g. new liveries for your aircraft the more you fly with it (and I mean, thesewon’t be your only additional liveries, I just means special ones that can onlybe unlocked!) or even being able to add a 'flag' onto the aircraft?I don't know, but you can run with it. It’s an idea! Jamie ♥

I'm in two minds about this.I like the awards you get in FSX (In the log book after Mission completion, 100 landings, landing at lowest altitude airport etc..) but I wouldn't want any potential award system to be like Xbox Live achievements (i.e flashing up on screen); It would be too game-like.

"It would be too game like"? Silly! You do know you can turn off the pop up messages, right? smile.gifJamie ♥

I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in achievements......in any game.

I would hope it is a sim, not a game. Best regards,Robin.

Points. Turning it into an "Arcade" game I fear
Flight isn't an arcade game.

I'm all for achievements, it just adds another dimension to the sim and doesn't really detract anything for those that it doesn't appeal to. Something cool would also be online competitions like the reno races and redbull challenges, just thinking along the lines of quirky fun that FSX touched on with the fly through the hoops, loopy larry type missions, more of those with a multilayer dimension would be great. For the serious players that want nothing more than a sim all these things could be ignored but I think that the FS we know really lacks anything for the casual gamer, and even though I consider myself a flight sim enthusiast I still love to jump into games for a quick casual play and some random fun from time to time.

Seriously, we're having this conversation?   Again?
