What monitor does the NGX deserve?

Bruce, like I said 3D is really cool, but kind of works just in daylight flights, the lights are all missplaced and its very annoying to fly in the night. Then, I have found heaven of smoothness with normal 2D and 120hz with Vsync enabled, so the real reason for me is the 120hz refresh rate and not the 3D. You will see the diffrence the first moment you use a 120hz monitor just on the desktop, everything feels much smoother :-)
Thanks McDaniel, Yes- I'm not sure if I am going to jump right in to the 3D thing or not (sounds like a great thing for daytime maybe in FSX). But in getting a monitor I would like to be prepared for any future (such as Flight, if I choose to get it and it provides a more comprehensive 3D solution). One thing I have noted, looking at info on the web regarding 3D, is the drop in brightness that the 3D glasses cause. I've even seen mention that one user (not here) had to crank up the brightness considerably to compensate for the attenuation in the light through the glasses. Is this something you have noticed in 3D too? Thanks again, Bruce.

:-) My monitor is so bright you are in danger og getting blind when you look at it..... If I select 3D Mode the monitor changes brightness by itself, I had to make my normal 2D setting much darker because it was so bright. Again...I know I keep repeating it....3D is fun but not something you will use to much....its the 120HZ which are the reason to get a 3D monitor.

I recently got this one. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. It's an ASUS, but I like it so much better than my Samsung 24". This monitor is bright clear and beautiful. FYI, I have it connected to my GPU via HDMI, and my resolution is 1920x1280. http://www.newegg.co...N82E16824236052 Also FYI, this monitor has good contrast and brightness that is fully customizable. (I left it at default as it was quite bright, and I was satisfied with contrast.) It also has some preset modes like "Cinema", "Warm Tones", etc. The screen is fully anti glare (matte) which to me makes the LED backlighting more beautiful.

Yep. Easy to fix. Keep your monitor plugged in with the HDMI cable>right click on the sound icon in your task bar>click audio devices>right click on your monitor>click disable>find your logitec speakers in the list>right click and make sure they are enabled and set to default. Hope that helps!

I just upgraded my 27" LCD monitor from 4 years ago to some dual 24" LCD-LED monitors with 8M:1 contrast ratios and 2 ms response times. Although I don't have a second video card for the other monitor. Oh well.

Go for IPS panel, because of color fidelity and a greater angle of view. TN monitors are for gaming, they are very fast, but for FS i'd rather have a high quality screen that doesn't change the image depending on where my head is. With TRACK IR that can be VERY annoying. I bought a Dell U2410, excellent, but I didn't have other options here in Brazil, I bet you can find a lot of nice and cheap IPS monitors where you live

Yesterday I took the plunge & ordered a duplicate of my existing two monitors and an Acer 23" touchscreen for the CDU & FSC. Gonna try setting them up with Nvidia's surround option. If that doesn't work like I'm hoping I suppose a triplehead2go will be next. Soon as I'm finished with the dining table (hopefully next weekend) I'll start building a new desk/cabinet for all this...

Thanks for all the replies. I have decided that a 120 Hz monitor makes sense and am looking around to see what is available. I went to Best Buy here in Boulder, only 60 Hz models. I then went to the Apple store (which I often frequent- I have quite a few "Macs" here at home, in fact use my home-built Win 7 (64) PC now only for FSX, everything else is Apple for both my wife and I). What an incredible monitor they have there, too bad it would likely never work with a PC! Resolution is 2560-by-1440, 27", LED, 120 Hz, known as a "Cinema Display", $999. The interface is through the "Mini Display Port" available on all Apple devices, but would need an interface from DVI to this format (which I understand is available for several hundred more $$), but wonder if the 3D nVidia signal would ever get to it! (I asked about HDMI input and the guy said that it puts HDMI to shame- actually it's the "mini-port" video standard that does that I guess). Also asked about a multi-boot to Windows, but it wouldn't work at al since there are no windows drivers for the signal format (Mini port). Maybe on a Windows emulation running on the Mac, but that's resource intensive. But talk about a monitor worthy of the NGX! I think a waste of $$ given that I want to use it on a PC, but I was sure impressed! Back to shopping.... thanks again everyone. Bruce.

I wish I had the money for these things, God bless you guys and continue to upgrade you will soon find the spot on position for all your FSX needs, eventually I will be up there Praying.gif But for now I keep my fingers crossed and pray for my work to pay off.

DELL ULTRASHARP 30", 2500 x1600. Awesome picture but not cheap. $1400 new. I got mine at Dell outlet as a factory refurb, rigorously rebuilt and tested as NEW. $800 at Christmas time. If your patient grab one of these when Dell has them instock at outlet store. They go FAST!!! Cheers,BB
Same here! Got mine for about $750 shipped. In fact, my 30" Dell was never even actually "Refurbished". It had a dent on the box so Dell would not sell it as new. When I opened it up everything was still sealed. I called Dell and asked them about it and the customer service agent told me that just because a Dell product is listed as "Refuurbished" does not mean it was ever used or even ever opened. SCORE!
I ENVY both you 30" monitor simmers!! I've been dying to get one for FSX for ages but there just so damned expensive. I may just have to put the old tax return towards it and go out and buy one. The NGX will make it totally worth while.
