Still magic after all these years

As i sit here in my virtual cockpit, cruising at 13 000' on my way to KMYL in the Flight1 C182T (35 minutes to go) I am having one of those moments when the only thing i can think about is how much I still enjoy this hobby, and how far it has gone since my first virtual flight out of Meiggs field on my 386sx in my college dorm room.At this moment, I don't give a damn about all the hobby $$$ spent on flight simming, the tweaks, the CTDs, I just enjoy the fact that here I am in real-time and real weather with the sun now up in the Idaho skies, flying over amazing scenery, and still enjoying it.Sometimes, we tend to forget about those things.

I know exactly what you mean. There are numerous times that I fly with my nose pressed against the imaginary windscreen saying: Oh wow! Oh wow! :)Rich

Same here my friend…… My first flight was on my IBM PC with 128k of RAM and a 10MB hard drive… I still have my original Microsoft Flight Simulator program and the manual, the entire program came on a 64k floppy disk……My first computer upgrade was to a 386SX and I thought I was in heaven….. Have owned every version of MSFS since and probably spent thousands of dollars on scenery and aircraft addons……. Also have gotten thousands of hours of enjoyment out of it over the last 20 years….. Money well spent as far as I am concerned…… JayDub

Funny to see this post today. I had the very same feelings last night on a 182T flight from Pensacola to Huntsville AlabamaJust a great experience including small thunderstorm and a bit of bouncing around. Sometimes it is easy to forget just how good this sim can be. I can't say enough about the Flight one version of the 182T. What a great job they did. It is just done right. Hard to ask for anything more. Got rid of all the extra monitors, use just one additional computer for weather and flight planning. Going to get a touch screen for main monitor and I am set.

Thanks for posting....all too easy to become jaded about this hobby and lose the feelings from the first time we flew the sim.Just Kidding.gif

I just flew a flight using the iFly 737-700, ORBX scenery, VOXATC, and a host of other addons. FSX can be completely frustrating to get set up, and yes you can spend a lot of money to get it right, but when it all comes together, it sure is worth it. Plus, it's cheaper than going to the bar on Friday night!LOL.gif

I hope someone makes something like this for FSX when Flight comes around:

My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL |
| Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

I've always loved the fact that all the flight sims, from subLogic to the present, have had the ability to take my mind off of everyday life, and transport me to another place. Heck I even liked (knock on wood) all the tweaking and solving CTD, ect.... (I even flew Warbirds online for 14 years, but can't see the boggies any more). What a great hobby we have here. I'm very content with FSX now.

Cheers;

I almost hate to admit it, but I have been flying FS since 1985, I think FS3 which was pretty terrible if memory serves. I still haven't gotten tired of it. To me FS9 and FSX are absolute wonders. Endless delight.

That's one of my favorite FS videos of all time. It's still a classic!
That's one of my all time favorite videos from Max as well, perhaps he will do one when Flight comes out. He also makes some nice freeware scenery if you haven't tried it. Just search the Avsim library for Max Kraus ie. flyhalf and you will find some great stuff

Little did I realize, as I lifted off that black & white wire grid and became fascinated watching it slowly recede and shift - I had wandered into uncharted territory, never to completely return again.
