I'll only need few hours probably. But I'm not going to do abnormal procedures so it should be fine.

I put in so many hours on PMDG's first NG that I'm sure it'll all come back to me very quickly. What will take longer to learn are new gadgets like the HGS and learning all the various nuances and failures that have been modeled.

Should be a piece of cake, I've flown numerous renditions of the NG in FS9 and FSX. Purchased the other NG a few months ago to practice for this very occasion, in a way that was like having a simulator in the simulator. Now it's time for the real deal!

I have enough simming time in that I can usually improvise my way through my shakedown flight with a new addon, particularly with Boeings. But it takes quite a while to learn the ins and outs of the FMS and all of the other systems. With the MD-11 it feels like I learn something new every time I fly it.

Properly flying?Well...I have this list of things that I haven't been able to verify correct procedures on. Every year the list gets smaller as I pick up pieces of info here and there, but every year the list grows too.For example, properly flying means inputting winds aloft for the VNAV controlled descent, but from what I hear ACARS will download that information for you and automatically put it into your CDU on a real NG.I have to do it the hard way and go by http://www.aviationweather.gov/products/nws/winds/, but sometimes the first major VOR on my approach isn't anywhere near what's listed on NOAA, so I just have to wing it. I saw 3 people said they're real NG pilots. Please, I've been trying to find out for ages....do you engage the Flight Director and Autothrottle together after the IRS finishes aligning?Or is it done on the before takeoff checklist prior to holding short?I've also heard the FD is after engine start but AT is after clearance for takeoff. Or is it just all company specific.

The exact timing is company specific if I remember correctly...

A question I would ask to the real NG pilots is: Is there a specific altitude specified on the manuals perhaps at which you start to flare the aircraft when landing?

Couple of hours, I'm already very familiar with the 744's FMC. I'll have to sit at the gate and learn about all of the new systems though! Big Grin.gif

Thanks,

I believe flying will come quick but to really master it and fly her properly it'll get some time with the quality that PMDG has announced and showcased.

I'm not a real NG pilot, but I do play one when I fly the NGX. I'm terribly sorry, that was horrible, I just couldn't help myself. Party.gif On the serious side of things, the FCTM says to start flaring when the main gear are approximately 20 feet above the ground.
