August 19, 201114 yr Just checking, as I see it's a pretty big hit on my sys when I load up more than a small amount of Airport Vehicle Density. Be nice to see some more planes at bigger terminals . . . August 19, 201114 yr I'm interested too. I also do wonder if MyTraffic or Ultimate Traffic (don't want to use WoAI with its old models you have to convert) bring MORE traffic to the FSX world: even when I pull the AI sliders right (with default AI) there often isn't much going on on the ground right now. The list with AI aircraft does become quite long with AI at full, but on the ground I still don't see many aircraft, no matter if the airport is small or big... I wouldn't mind if a lot of the aircraft were static... It just doesn't look right when I land on EHAM or EGLL and there isn't a plane in sight...
August 19, 201114 yr I have had MTX since 2008, the current version 5.3b will fill your airports up. I run my traffic @ 30% and sometimes I think that at places like KORD it is to much traffic. As far as a FPS hit, MTX @ 30% will be less of a hit than standard FSX traffic @ 30% even though you have more traffic, something to do with the way it is programmed. The author does a great job of supporting his product on a dedicated forum. Make sure you get 5.3b and do not get the Aerosoft version.
August 19, 201114 yr I use UT2. Really good models. August 19, 201114 yr Im on UT2, even though I have got it turned right down there seems to be tons of traffic. On the ground freq at EGLL last night there was literally not a break in the clearances. I had to change freqs just to stop getting a headache. And there always seems to be someone crawling down the approach or going along the runway at 1mph which wrecks a great approach. I need to get the ATC sorted soon.
August 19, 201114 yr FSX default? Yeah its super hard with FSX default ATC. I want to get Radar contact but V5 is expected soon so I might wait Di Agron Dell XPS 15 L502X | Intel i5-2540m @ 2.60GHz | 4GB DDR3 1333MHz (2x2GB) | nVidia GT525M | Seagate 500GB 7200RPM | 15" 1366x768 | 23" LG 1360x768 | Got a hardware question? August 19, 201114 yr Yeah default.. I havent got round to investigating alternative ATC options quite yet. I was sure there must be some improvement available, but thats probably a different thread..
August 19, 201114 yr I use MTX and if using the low poly AI traffice doesnt bother you then you will do fine depending on the GA and Airline traffic density. MTX at even 10% provides considerably more traffic than using the same % using FSX default traffic. Bob Officially retired
August 19, 201114 yr The low poly AI traffic that MTX uses was a real turn off for me. The other problem was that for Canadian military bases the traffic was comprised of way too many American aircraft, it was a total joke! In the end I found I preferred creating my own AI traffic using the FSX SDK, my own repaints and a careful selection of FSX native AI aircraft. Regards, Mike Mann Mike Mann
August 19, 201114 yr I have airport vehicles turned down pretty low but I have UT2 at 100%. I also have about 400 individual traffic.bgls installed but I have removed the default traffic. In the sim, the GA and commercial traffic sliders are also at 100%. You can use both methods in concert or you can import schedules and paints in to UT2. Unlike all the other programs, freeware products and default traffic, UT2 generates traffic outside of the sim and injects it through Simconnect. I have found that there is a slight gain in performance using that method but of course, the performance gain is diminished by adding in traffic.bgls. UT2 also allows you to customize the amount of traffic by setting a target frame rate. The models that WofAI uses do not need to be converted to anything unless you are using DX10 preview. AIA, TFS, FSP, DW, RATS... can all be imported in to UT2 and work just fine. UT2 actually uses those models; however, they have converted them to make them DX-10 compliant (AFAIK). I don't have DX10 checked so it is not an issue for me. If you do use the older models, you may have issues with prop and night textures but replacements for those are available here at AVSIM. Performance? Well I have always gone full throttle with my AI - its one of my favorite parts of the sim and has led to my FS addiction since the code for traffic was cracked right here in the TTools forum back in 2002. At a very large airport with high quality scenery, I will get FPS in the teens during morning rush (think EGLL with 75% of the gates occupied). At a smaller airport, I'm locked at 30 or maybe in the 20's. To get around the low fps, I usually start flights at large hubs during their busiest times and end flights at smaller airports. You can get away with an FPS hit during takeoff but you need the fps when landing. What to buy? Keep in mind I am heavily biased towards UT2 and I have not owned another payware traffic program. I do, however, use a lot of freeware. What I can say is MTX does not look very appealing. The screenshots in this review are pretty bad by UT2 standards: http://www.avsim.com/pages/0811/Simmarket/TfcX.html. I wouldn't use most of those models if they were free. UT2 is highly customizable and while it does not offer a paint for every airline, you can assign paints from AVSIM in to their schedules very easily. UT2 is not perfect but I think it is about as good as you can get. People that don't like it complain that it doesn't include enough paints or that the included RW schedules don't mimic the RW (someone just complained that they didn't see an aircraft in the sim that was currently flying over their house - ppppplease). It has some idiosyncrasies but I have been very happy with the product (and its various updates) since the day it was released in 2003. August 20, 201114 yr I also have MTX 5.3b and have been very satisfied with it. I set GA and airliner traffic at 25% and get plenty of traffic. In fact, when I fly in the sim out of my home airport (KDTW), it shows the regional jet gates packed with ERJ's, CRJ's, with the bigger gates filled more sporadically, maybe one out of three with a plane. Last time I really flew out of KDTW, it was basically the same...regional gates packed and sporadic bigger jets. The airliner liveries shown in the sim were what I saw at the airport as well. I'm not as concerned about the detail in the AI liveries as I want to save computing time for other things than the planes. All that said, I have never had UT2, so can't make a comparison. But if you do a search for AI traffic programs you'll find A LOT of comparisons! Good luck in deciding! @Di - I LOVE Radar Contact! Never fly without it. Not sure you want to wait for V5. I like it much better than default. If you check the Radar Contact forum on this site, V5 arrival is very TBD. You can download the user guide from the jtdll webpage and check out what v4.3 offers. If you have an in on V5 timing, please share! ;) Thread hijacking done. --Don Don Polidori
August 20, 201114 yr I had a look. The only few things I don't like are the way it's integrated (the window, how the menu is done etc) and the lack of taxi commands. August 20, 201114 yr WoAI is really good and its free, as most of you would know. It takes a bit of setting up but once its all done you save a fair bit and the models are far better than my traffic and traffic x but are about the same as ultimate traffic 2. With a little payware flight board addon, this is a great way to do your traffic. Both optimists and pessimists contribute to our society. August 20, 201114 yr UT2 is great. Has tons of airliners, great looking planes, and not that much of an FPS hit at all, since their planes were made using FSX SDK SP2.
August 20, 201114 yr Would UT2 have less of an impact over WoAI? Both optimists and pessimists contribute to our society. The optimist invents the airplane and the pessimist the parachute. ~Gil Stern
