so it seems that the default ATC IQ remains the same!
I think so, when I used to use edit voicepack it still gave the constant course changes that drive you nuts. Not a problem that Radar Contact has !!! G

I have 2 issues with Radar Contact. One is the robotic voices (I know there actually WAV files, but they still sound mechanized.) The Meatwater pack may overcome this but I haven't found a sample video or audio to confirm this. For all it's faults, the default with editvoicepack sounds more natural and free flowing. (You can also accelerate the voices to make it sound even more realistic, I used increased setting for mine. The other issue is it doesn't seem to interact with AI as well. For example, while it gives appropriate intermediate altitude calls for the user aircraft, you don't hear the same for the AI aircraft. (and of course no Ground control) As for the course changes on approach, the default ATC (With/without editvoicepack) actually does this very logically. What it does is create an internal extension to the flight plan that it will vector you on. If you are approaching straight in, It will vector you to a parallel coarse of the runway, Then it will vector you to base, and on final approach bring you to a 25 to 30 degree angle to intercept the ILS. It does the same thing if you approach downwind. The problem is because it uses vectors, it's not taking wind into consideration, so when the wind pushes you off the invisible FP extension, it vectors you back on. The same way it would if you allowed ATC to vector you on the regular FP vs using NAV or LNAV. I find it only does this a couple of times for me so it's not that bad. There is actually away around this if approaches are defined in the AFCAD. Jim Vile does this with his AFCAD releases, but unfortunately, not many others, including the payware airports utilizes them. You just request them when you are given your initial clearance. STAR approaches can actually be defined with them.

Thanks

As regards the default ATC it is not realistic with or without editvoicepack. Just try flying outside of N. America it's a different world!!I don't like RC4 because I'm always talking to robots!!! That is also not realistic. Whereas PFE does have realistic voices and taxyway guidance amongs many other things. If you want another ATC other than the default then you must look carefully at both PFE and RC4. They each have their drawbacks and advantages so the choice is yours.PFE is built around the old Proflight 2000 which is now used only to compile the PFE flightplan. Everything else is new. There's plenty of vids on YouTube to compare before you buy.vololiberista

Looks like there's room for another add-on that combines the best of all words!

Tom, thanks for the directions on importing phraseology into FSX ATC. I look forward to your latest mods.

There's also VOXATC and online networks like IVAO / Vatsim, so the user have more options than just PFE and RC4. I havent tried VOXATC myself, but I've heard many good things about it, with most users that have tried it prefer it over RC4

The problem with the on-line ATC is that there have to be controllers all along the route you wish to take including destination. Which unfortunately rarely happens!vololiberista

This is true. You could however use online atc for the airspaces that are currently staffed, then switch over to your computer ATC when you get told to switch over to unicom. None of the currently available ATC solutions are perfect unfortunately. I do find that online ATC is by far the best of the ones I've tried tho

Online groups such as Boston Virtual ATC and West Coast ATC have regular events where they do string controllers along a route. I highly recommend them.
