Wide screen with PMDG NGX

Featured Replies

The visability with the 2D panels is a well known FSX problem. It is the same with the default MSFS 737. PMDG recommend 1920X1080 on their website.
I can only get mine up to 1280x1024. Is that a monitor thing, or a video card thing?

I just got a Packard Bell monitor which will run up to 1920x1080. Wow! It look fantastic. Both 2D and 3D cockpits. Just a few questions on this. Which is the is the best screen resoultion to use. I noticed that circles are slightly eliptical, when I set the montitor to 1920x1080? Also, do PMDG not want us to use the 2D panels? On final app you can not see the runway. Unless you go the 3D cockpit and make the PFD pop out, so that you can check that your speed is on the bug? I'm starting to like this bird alot. I'm still learning it but it is fab. I really enjoyed the last flight!rolleyes.gif
Sounds like your resolution is incorrect.....I use 1920 x 1200 and aspects are good, but it depends on your monitor and grahics card.......

Intel I7-2600K, Asus P8P67 Pro, 8GB PC3 17000 (DDR3-2133) XLD 9-11-9-28, GTX 980, 34" ASUS Monitor, 1TB Samsung EVO SSD, Windows 10 (64-bit), Prepar3D v3.3.5.17625, AS 2016, AivlaSoft EFB, EZDOK

I've used FSX.CFG to WideViewAspect=True for a year or too. However is it just me or does FSX-NGX look better without it? The exterior doesnt look stretched, and the interior looks more like the proper aspect ratio.Widescreen looked good on the VC of the MD11, but the NGX looks better without. Whats your opinion guys?

This is correct. The 2D panels were designed for a 16:10 aspect ratio (1920x1200 or 2560x1600), whereas many of the new monitors on the market now (most of them actually) are at 16:9 (like an HD television). If you are using a 16:9 monitor (1920x1080 or 2560x1440) you may notice some squashing of the panels.

Yep, my native resolution is 1920 x 1080 and wideviewaspect=true looks horrible on my monitor.

120 vertical pixels shouldn't be "horrible". Sounds lke you have another problem. Also why would anyone take a clown seriousely? :-p

Most games will look better at your monitor's native resolution. You can avoid the squashed look of circles by playing in a windowed mode and adjusting the window size so the circles are circles. My monitor has a resolution of 2450, but it looks much better at that resolution than at lower resolutions. Henri

Yes it is an FSX problem. You can raise your eye point using Shift + Enter and lower it with Shift + Backspace. This only works for me on the ground in Win 7 but also in the air with Vista.

Ok cool. Also I did enter WideViewAspect=True in the FSX.cfg. But it still is distorted. I'm from the UK. Maybe the standards and fomats are different here anyway, to the US?

For those experiencing a distorted view with the WideViewAspect=True you may find it neccesary or beneficial to adjust your zoom level. ;)

Julian, the reason why you are getting a distorted view is because you are not running your monitor at 1920x1200. Altering the WideViewAspect in the cfg is fine, but the only thing it does is simply provide a wider view, it doesn't alter the resolution or dimensions of the picture. It simply zooms out, so if you have a widescreen monitor (who doesn't these days) Then it should be set at wide. Having said this, there is no reason whatsover why you shouldn't have it set at false. All that will do is zoom in slightly. So, yes you are correct to have it set at wide, but your monitor needs to be set at 1920x1200. Also remember to set FSX in the graphics section to 1920x1200 also. You should first set the monitor to the resolution, then the same in FSX. If the monitor will not offer you a resolution of 1920x1200 then set it at 1920x1080 BUT YOU MUST set it at the same resolution in FSX. As I said, changing the wide aspect view in the cfg, will not make a jot of difference to the dimensions or resolution, it will simply zoom in or zoom out. Let us all know how you get on....

Hi Julian,me too have the same your problem: I've solved it by zooming the 2d cockpit at 70% and, during approach lowering the panel (by left mouse click and drag) till about the middle of the boxed total fuel indicator "cuts" your monitor's bottom line: this givw you a good prespective for landing and a correct view of the PAPI/VASI.Hope this helpBest RegardsAndrea B.

I don't think this monitor runs that resolution. But I will have to experiment a bit with the settings that are there.

You are correct, sir. Got me wondering, so I rechecked. I must have looked at it originally from a distorted angle, or something. Giving it another look.

That's probably your monitor's maximum resolution.Mine mointor's native is 2560x1440, but that is just too much for FSX to run smoothly and FPS are too low. So I do 1920x1080 most of the time.
