September 6, 201114 yr When pushing back the 737NGX I'm mostly in trouble to turn into a taxiway behind the plane even if I set the first initial path to Zero and there should be theoretically sufficient space. I'm quite often at airports and my observation is that those tugs are able to turn the birds even by following really narrow curves. Of course this might be a limitation caused by Microsoft's FSX as PMDG seems to use some of their functions. However, if there is a chance to reduce the turning radius I would appreciate this very much. According to the books, the max. effective steering angle should be 75 Deg allowing to u-turn on runways having not more than 79.1 ft. This seems to give towing tugs enough capabilities for tight turns. A bit maths shows that the track length of 387 ft of a 90 deg turn equals a turn radius of about 246 ft - that's huge, about 6 times as much as the absolute minimum could be (assuming a quarter circle, of course). The enclosed picture shows about the same dimensions. When recalculated from the roughly measured wingspan I'm getting a radius difference of just 6 ft, about the same range. Dear friends from PMDG, is there any chance to do something about it? Regards,Axel Regards,Axel
September 6, 201114 yr I think they're planning a more advanced pushback menu for the CDU for SP1, but I couldn't give you an actual quote from PMDG. Cristi Neagu
September 6, 201114 yr I think they're planning a more advanced pushback menu for the CDU for SP1, but I couldn't give you an actual quote from PMDG. My understanding as well. I can't tell you how many times I've ended up with the tail going through a terminal wall or another aircraft. Hahaha
September 6, 201114 yr Well... we can always install FSCopilot. That had a nice pushback module that let you initialize the turn whenever you wanted, and also included ground to cockpit coms. And there are some ground handling gauges to be found on Avsim as well. Cristi Neagu
September 6, 201114 yr A PPU would be nice, ala Wilco Evolution. That'd be cool. But even better would be a graphical representation of the pushback that's actually drawn behind the aircraft. But i don't think that's even possible. PMDG have been known to create the seemingly impossible before, so... who knows... Cristi Neagu

September 6, 201114 yr Considering that the 800 is about 129' or 40m in length, if you look at the top view you should be able to guesstimate the distance for pushback fairly accurately by using the fuselage as a datum.
September 6, 201114 yr I think the OP is getting that the radius to turn is too much. Instead of straight back and a nice tight turn to line up on the taxiway or ramp, you go on tour of the airport. That's one reason why I never use the pushback because of that. Would be nice if it would follow the taxiway line or something. Ryan Stowers
September 6, 201114 yr I wish the tug would just follow the yellow line, just as the captain would if taxying, this ensures obstacle clearance. September 6, 201114 yr i too have had this problem and usually reset the distance to 30 or something before manually stopping it. the worse part is that, on pushback, I'm busy starting my engines so by the time I look outside I'm on the grass!! Would be great if this was fixed. J Thomas YBBN
September 6, 201114 yr This is the wat fsx handles pushbacks.....its flawed. It wasnt pmdg's idea to do it this way. They just made it a little more airlinerish with the comms. FAA: ATP-ME, 737 CA, enough time in the 757/767 to be dangerous 🤠 Matt Kubanda, 7950X3D, 64GB RAM, RTX 5090@4k, MSFS 2024
September 7, 201114 yr This is the wat fsx handles pushbacks.....its flawed. It wasnt pmdg's idea to do it this way. They just made it a little more airlinerish with the comms. Wrong, the radius on other aircraft is just fine, this one is too shallow. Hopefully this will be fixed in SP1! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d

It would be nice to have a more customize-able push back interface. Like being able to turn more than 90 degrees or 2 different turns. September 7, 201114 yr What I wish for a turn radius option of more than 90 degrees. This seems to be the maximum allowed in the menu. It would be nice if say 120 degrees or more would be allowed. Some addon aircraft have this ability so I know it is possible in FSX. i7 3770K HT, 8GB RAM, nVidia 980GTX, Win7, P3D 3.4, FSG mesh, UTX, GEX, ST, ASA16/ASCA, NickN optimized
