Well, going by history and every successive release, people would reasonably EXPECT it to bea. An evolutionary step fwd in the franchise.b. given that 5 years have lapsed since the last release as opposed to 2 in between previous incarnations, I would expect it to harness software and hardware developments during this period rather significantly. c. As before, an open ended platform with sdk's available to developers before release, unlike previous versions.d. I would expect it to cover the world and maybe low orbit space type simulation.e. correction of the annoying bugs that still reside in fsx. I would NOT expect it to have a vastly overhauled ATC system, 100% accurate landclass, or particularly amazing weather effects, but I would expect the ability to create accurate weather modelling and display. I am quite happy to leave these features to 3rd party designers who invariably always do a much better job at it anyway. All speculative, of course...:-)

He later said that he didn't have any more information to base that off of and it was not meant in a negative way, but rather just saying that it is not what people think it will be.
I think alain is pointing out that these two statements are contradictory, one states that he has no more info than anyone else and the other implies that he does. The way I see it is rampant speculation about a product that may or may not be a platform for the sales of new scenery can't be good for business, it makes people hold onto their money or hesitate to buy products that could be outdated in the near future. You will notice he went on to push P3D for which they are actively developing and gives customers a tangible alternative and reaffirmed FSX as the "serious sim". All just good business sense from my point of view.
I expect to see Flight when it's done, and not one moment before...
Fr Bill - My impression is that software is NEVER DONE.(although there probably are instances where it is so bad that it should be ash canned immediately upon release- in which event, it truly would be "done!" My attempts at software for the IBM 650 some 55 years ago, probably fell within this latter category.)AR

I drink tea.

I would like for it to be released sometime in the first half of 2012, but if it doesn't, it's no big deal to me.

Exactly,http://forum.avsim.n...-not-look-good/ post # 11, As for my comments on what Flight appears to be in comparison to FSX, until I see screenshots from MS which shows anything outside Hawaii, my perception is unchanged.frankla got baned because he said IF when doing the same thing as we are all guilty of doing....speculating, he was just trying to put 2 and 2 together here with the info we got from MS.We all know what we want from Flight, there is enough threads here for somebody to get the picture about the expectations we all have, how can you tell me that Flight will not be what we (I) want just by looking at pics. and vid. (of Hawaii only) released by MS??How does it goes, if it look like a duck, walk like a duck.....

No big deal? How will you breathe up until the point it releases? Worried.gif

Now THAT is an interesting question... I think some who post regarding this overall topic should read what Tierborn wrote, and RELAX!I expect Flight will be released when Microsoft feels that it's ready for release. When that time comes, all of us will surely know it's here.Alan

I agree ViperPilot :) Sure I'd like for it to come during a certain time frame, but if it doesn't, so be it.

Alain,I have one question for you. Based on the above comment you made... when MS releases Flight to the public, and the Sim doesn't meet or fulfill your expectations, even though there was more than enough input from the FS community for MS to draw from; then what?"If it walks like a duck, then it must be a duck" may be true in certain instances, but the same thing could be said for, "If it sounds (or looks) too good to be true, then that's probably the case."Alan

You took what I said out of context, I may not have been clear enough about what I was saying, I was refering to the article where John from Orbx said that Flight is not what people are expecting, Here is the article.. http://airdailyx.blo...f.html#commentsWe also had this thread started by an anonymous person... http://forum.avsim.n...are-hoping-for/What I was saying is how can one able to tell what Flight will not be just by looking at pics. and vid. released by MS, John released this statement.."As for my comments on what Flight appears to be in comparison to FSX, until I see screenshots from MS which shows anything outside Hawaii, my perception is unchanged". http://forum.avsim.n...-not-look-good/ post # 11 now the words appears to be is used.So Flight is not what peoples are expecting and by the same token he need to see more screenshots from MS outside Hawaii to be able to tell what Flight will be? Right there and then Orbx started pushing Prepar3D.Read post # 82... http://forum.avsim.n...od/page__st__75 Orbx (and Aerosoft after posting on Avsim) took their Flight thread down, the reason given from Orbx was "Speculations" after over one full year of such speculations without any problems what so ever, was it just a coincidence?Frankla was banned for 30 days for pointing out what he perceived as inconsistency between some statements made on this forum and elsewhere. For the record, Orbx is a great company with great addons (as I have a lot of them) and nothing but great peoples working at Orbx, I also wish the best of luck to LM with Prepar3D as I think everybody is entitle to make a good living. I am not after any company nor do I have any personal agenda against these company but I will always call it as I see it and that is why I made this statement...if it look like a duck and it walk like a duck...

Alain,I understand your point of view completely. I have nothing but the utmost respect for every developer, designer and proponent of Flight Simulation, whoever they may be and regardless of how large or small their operation is. They are a large part of why our hobby has the passion and following that is shown in all of the FS Forums.I can understand why Orbx and Aerosoft took their threads down due to excessive speculation; it gets to a point where it turns into dis-information, and that can be very damaging to the hobby as a whole.Alan

Alan,What is an excessive or reasonable speculation? Speculations are speculations right, and should not be taken as facts. Information or disinformation may only come from somebody having first hand knowledge about something.I guess we will all be able to see at the end when Flight is released, as for me if I had to speculate I'll say that somebody at MS got pi$$ed big time.

Alain,Here's the way I see it...There have been so many things that have been said about what Flight is going to be ("It's just going to be Hawai'i with the killer autogen"... "No, it's not! I have it on good authority that all of the Autogen's gonna look like that"... "You're both wrong! I saw on another Forum someone who knew a friend of the wife of the Janitor that works at MS who overheard something coming out of the Flight office that you have to buy each geographical area to get the Autogen"... etcetera, and so on, and so forth)...This is just an example (and a caricature, to be sure) of the kind of stuff that has been written in every single FS Forum around. Now, based on the above "exchange"...-- What's going to have Autogen? Just Hawai'i? The Whole World?-- Is the Autogen included in the Sim? Do you have to purchase it separately? Where do you purchase it?So what's true? What's false? It looked like a duck in the picture; it walked like a duck in the video... but can (and will) a duck walk and look like a duck in Europe, for example? Since we haven't seen other parts of the World yet, do we know for certain that will actually be the case? The bottom line is that there's too little factual information from the horses' mouth (Microsoft) about what features Flight has to make an accurate statement. But, if you look at what's been posted in these Forums previously, you have people who sound like they are ready to have a nervous breakdown arguing about these issues. That's how excessive speculation, devoid of facts, can become disinformation and in turn, become harmful. So you are correct; let's wait until Flight comes out. If it's not up to expectations, then that is the time to voice comments.Spirited discussion and disagreement is healthy; when it turns into Cowboys and Indians... then it's not fun.AlanEDIT: I'm glad we're having this conversation, BTW. If I'm getting mouthy or overly wordy, just let me know. :(
