October 16, 201114 yr Hi Dazz Firstly thanks to the forum members for the very welcome comments they really are appreciated. As for the CS WXR surround removal, what a great idea I whish I had thought of it, as for the actual fitting of just the display you could use the numbers you have but you may find the display arc is a bit on the flat side and using the numbers from the surround should give a better type of display. For the display changed to the surround size just change the [VCockpit04] section to the one below[VCockpit04]size_mm=1024,1024pixel_size=1024,1024texture=$GaugeFourbackground_color=0,0,0gauge00=PMDG_737NGX!DU_VC, 46,41,418,418,2 UPPER #23 VCgauge01=PMDG_737NGX!DU_VC, 560,1,1,1,2 LOWER #24 VCgauge02=PMDG_737NGX!CDU_Screen, 0,741,333,282,L #3 VCgauge03=PMDG_737NGX!CDU_Screen, 334,741,333,282,R #4 VCgauge04=PMDG_737NGX!VCAnnunciations_3, 0,501,1024,96,VCgauge05=PMDG_737NGX!VCAnnunciations_5, 668,741,356,283,VCgauge06=PMDG_737NGX!VCAnnunciations_7, 0,597,1024,145,VCgauge07=WXR!wr_display, 560,80,418,294,VC I must admit that it looks a lot better this way, thanks again for the idea I appreciate it. Take care, and have fun. Jim Hodkinson
October 16, 201114 yr Author Thanks Jim! even though I dont use the VC that often, I added it anyway, it fits perfectly! The CS 'editor' installs it automatically to any plane you want so I didn't have to mess with that, I just added the "gauge07=WXR!wr_display, 560,80,418,294,VC" line to the VC 4 section and there it is, I never knew it was so easy, thanks again! Jay
October 16, 201114 yr Hi Jay Good to hear that you got her up and running, even if you don't use the VC that much it's always handy if you decided to. As for using the CS editor to install the WXR, I must admit that I very rarely use the editor as I use FSPanel Studio, which makes things a lot easier once you know what the gauge names are for the individual components of the unit you are trying to fit for this or any other similar units. Take care, and have fun. Jim Hodkinson
October 16, 201114 yr Author I actually have Panel Studio, but never got the hang of it. The one time I tried to use it I ended up with a panel that would rival the space shuttle, in a 172 Jay
October 16, 201114 yr Hi If anybody does want to add the CS WXR gauge to the VC of the 737NGX, well it's perfectly possible to do and the amendments needed to the panel.cfg file are below, you may notice that I have not actually removed the lower DU from the VC, the reason being that on complex aircraft like the PMDG offerings you never know what gauges are dependent on other gauges being present so it's just safer to reduce the size of the lower DU gauge to 1 pixel X 1 pixel and leave it in the panel, although the pop-up version of the DU is still available using the hot spot where the gauge was originally. I have also added a pop-up window for the CS gauge, as you will need it to alter any of the setting on the WXR gauge as the VC version will not allow you to use the CS controls of the unit, possibly again because of the complex lighting gauges that are spread about the cockpit blocking the CS controls by overlaying those gauges on top of the CS unit, I really don’t know on that one it's just my best guess, but using the pop-up version is not to much of a problem as you could always assign o key or button to open the 2D WXR window when needed. Well that’s about enough waffle so on with the show, the installation instructions. First and foremost PLEASE make a backup of your existing panel.cfg file and save it to a safe location, just in case things go pear shaped. With that out of the way here we go.. Using notepad or similar open the PMDG 737-800NGX panel.cfg file and add to the [Window Titles] section the following entry.. Window21=CS Weather Radar Then you will need to actually add the pop-up CSWXR window and gauge by adding window21 to the panel.cfg file as follows.. //--------------------------------------------------------[Window21]Background_color=1,1,1size_mm=445,386window_size_ratio=1.000position=2visible=0ident=11223window_size= 0.290, 0.323window_pos= 0.650, 0.020zorder=8gauge00=WXR!wr_display, 81,38,288,272gauge01=Captain_Sim.r001.P04!P04_radar, 1,1,443,384gauge02=PMDG_WXR_Toggle!WXR_Toggle, 92,60,254,230//-------------------------------------------------------- Now you need to add the entry for the VC gauge so you will need to alter the [VCockpit04] section as below.. [VCockpit04]size_mm=1024,1024pixel_size=1024,1024texture=$GaugeFourbackground_color=0,0,0gauge00=PMDG_737NGX!DU_VC, 46,41,418,418,2 UPPER #23 VCgauge01=PMDG_737NGX!DU_VC, 560,1,418,1,2 LOWER #24 VCgauge02=PMDG_737NGX!CDU_Screen, 0,741,333,282,L #3 VCgauge03=PMDG_737NGX!CDU_Screen, 334,741,333,282,R #4 VCgauge04=PMDG_737NGX!VCAnnunciations_3, 0,501,1024,96,VCgauge05=PMDG_737NGX!VCAnnunciations_5, 668,741,356,283,VCgauge06=PMDG_737NGX!VCAnnunciations_7, 0,597,1024,145,VCgauge07=Captain_Sim.r001.P04!P04_radar, 560,80,418,294,VCgauge08=WXR!wr_display, 629,110,280,195,VC And that should be it, you should be good to go. I hope it's of some use, and although I am by far no panel guru, I just do these for my own use really, but if you should have a problem then just let me know and I will try and help if I can. Take care, and have fun. Jim HodkinsonThanks for sharing, but how will you still use the on/off and the other range buttons when you hide the buttons ? Thanks.
October 16, 201114 yr Hi Evan If you have added to pop-up WXR then any and all adjustments for range / mode and the off/test/on buttons will have the same result on the VC gauge as you see on the pop-up windowed version. Sorry about that I should have made myself a little bit clearer on that one. I hope it helps. Jim Hodkinson
October 17, 201114 yr Anyone tried to put the radar above the integrated standby instrument on the front panel in VC? Isn't it better there rather than on the secondary DU?Is there a reduction in fps with this gauge? Thanks. James Goggi

October 17, 201114 yr Hi James The problem is that the standby instruments and in fact most of the instrumentation other than the primary flight instruments do not exist as individual gauges as such, so working out which if any of the gauges are responsible for any particular instrument would be a case of try it and see then repeat, and even if you did manage to find the gauge to replace the CSWXR gauge may not overlay the area of the original instrument it is replacing, so the short answer is that with my limited knowledge it can not be done unfortunately, unless someone with a lot more gauge knowledge than I knows a way, and to be honest as the NGX is running well I would not be attempting a shotgun type trial and error fit for the WXR it just is not worth it from my end, sorry about that. I hope some of the above waffle makes some sort of sense. Jim Hodkinson @ Dazz It's good to hear it worked out OK, and thanks for the feedback it really is appreciated. Take care, and have fun.
October 17, 201114 yr This is a shot of my VC with CS radar imbedded in the lower DU. It is my first try at posting an image so I hope it works. Dennis.Well that did not work. How is this done??? Dennis Elliott
October 17, 201114 yr Author This is a shot of my VC with CS radar imbedded in the lower DU. It is my first try at posting an image so I hope it works. Dennis.Well that did not work. How is this done??? First, click the "More Post Options" in the lower right corner... Then Click the 'Browse" button and select the pic you want to attach (check that the file size (properties) is under the posting limit) Once you have it, click the "Attach this file" button then "Preview Post" to be sure it's attached Then "Add Reply', it should then post to the thread. October 17, 201114 yr I think this shows that you do not lose the use of the eng gauge or the sys gauge with this setup, you just have to turn a knob and press some buttons. Thanks for helping me with this post Jay.VCockpit04Place your mouse cursor at the start of gauge01 and type........gauge01=WXR!wr_display,560,41,418,414,2 LOWER #24 VC//This will push the original gauge aside but you will not delete it.Now add at the endgauge07=Captain_Sim.r001.p04!p04_radar,560,41,418,414,2 LOWER #24 VC If your next gauge is not 07 use the next number in the sequence.Pay attention to the , . placement and of course back up the cfg before starting, that way you can swap them in in and out sometimes if you don't want the radar all the time. You can operate the radar from the pop up unit which could be in the 2D cockpit or like me on a separate monitor where I have it behind another gauge with just the controls showing. October 17, 201114 yr Hi Dennis Great tip you have there, and thank you for posting it. Jim Hodkinson P.S. I wondered what those entries after the gauge were for, well I did say I am a long way from being a gauge guru by far.
