October 16, 201114 yr Hello,I'm planning to buy a new rig for FSX. I just cannot decide at all. I can't decide between the i5 2500K and the i7 2600K. I have read the "i5 or i7?" thread, but still can't decide. So what are you experiences with the i5 2500K overclocked? How many fps do you get with very complex scnenery like ORBX, and Aerosoft Mega Airports and the NGX? With my current system I'm getting about 16-18 fps in the worst circumstances. The is the pc I want to build:Asus P8Z68-V Proi5 2500K (I want to overclock it to about 4.5 - 4.7 GHz).Zotac GTX560ti 1024 MBCorsair 8GB 1600MHzModXStream Pro 700WScythe Mugen 2 REV B CPU Cooler1TB Caviar Black Antec Nine Hundred Two caseWill this run the NGX good with complex add-ons? Will it be a massive improvement over my current system? Thanks, Arjen Vandervelde
October 16, 201114 yr I have a 2500k @ 5.0ghz for 3 or 4 mothns now. I do not know anything about the P8z68 board though, I have the P67 Deluxe and I'd say your GPU needs more VRAM if you wan to AA a lot like I do. Another thing too is your Heatsink;l if you wan to OC to 4.5 or higher you have to have one hell of a good heatsink, I use the D14 I think its called from Noctua and shes works great. What are the timings on your RAM? Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom

October 16, 201114 yr No probs ( not overclocked) Intel i5-2500K @ 3,3 GHZ (not overclockt)RTX 2060 Super Windforce WF2OC-8GD16 GB Ram - 1333 Win10 FSX - Accelaration
October 16, 201114 yr 9-9-9-24, but I'm building a new system so that will be different. Going from cas9 to cas7 memory didn't do anything for my system. One thing you need to watch out for is the voltage your memory needs. 1.5v is recommended for sandybridge & 1.65 is a good max. That's probably lower than your current sticks. October 16, 201114 yr As you're overclocked to 4Ghz now don't expect too much more from an i5 or i7 - it'll be better, yws, but you'll probably gain about 5 fps. The 2500 runs at 3.7 as standard and you can go up to about 4.5, after that it depends on the chip... some go up to 5.5 but that is pretty rare, as most top out around 4.7. October 16, 201114 yr 5.2Ghz daily on my 2500K and H100, I went from 4.4Ghz on my i7950 and saw a massive difference, around 8 fps at YBBN (ORBX), stayed at 24fps there. Simon Roberts
October 16, 201114 yr My system is in signature. I am running 737ngx with UTX, FSGLOBAL 2010, FEX, GEX USA and airports at highest settings with Nvidia inspector in VC. I get around 25-40 while taxing. On cruise levels i get 50-60 fps (Vsinc) On the glide slope 20-40 FPS depending on scenery. (all given results are without traffic) In vatsim FPS drop is around 5-10 fps.
October 16, 201114 yr Author I just want to know if it's worth buying the i7 2600K, is it any better at all for FSX? Arjen Vandervelde
October 16, 201114 yr Nope EDIT: It's not just a preference thing since my sig says I'm using a 2500k either. I've played with both & don't really prefer one over the other. Kenneth Weir My Saitek yoke mod i7 2600k @ 4.7 8GB Gskill CAS7 2x GTX580 SLI Surround + GT520 Accessory Win7x64
October 16, 201114 yr I am running 737NGX with REX, ASX Evolution and ORBX, At YMML WITH 40% TRAFFIC I get 15-25 FPS AND its very very smooth. As the RAM units are rather tall I had to remove the bottom fan of the HSF but all still runs very cool. regardsRichard. October 17, 201114 yr I am using the i5 2500K and its absolutely fantastic value for the buck.Question to those who've over clocked their i5 2500k - I'm currently using it as stock at 3.3 was wondering what coolers would be the best value for overclocking and any advice/ what I'd be best to look at etc? :) Thanks in advance!Craig Craig Harris 'NG Driver' for an airline whom shall not be named...

CraigThanks,If you want to know the best CPU cooler for the buck, I would say go for the Scythe Mugen 2 REV B. You can get a Corsair H100 or Noctua D14 for twice the money, but believe me, the difference is only about 1-2 degrees. I know this because I looked at all the testresults of these products compared to eachother. Arjen Vandervelde
October 17, 201114 yr It's pretty simple. If you want the very best of the best, go with the 2600K. If you want the CPU right below the best of the best, for $100 less, go with the 2500K :) | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
