Alienware Computer Destroys FSX (and PMDG 747)

.... It has a homeowners warrantee...
So does mine. I am the homeowner, I built it, and if I break it, I fix it. What better warrantee can you get?

I will never understand why people buy houses already assembled. If you build your own it's like half the price. It's easy! Enjoy your new comp and smooth FSX. wink.png
That may have been the case in the past but as someone who has investigated both, in today's depressed housing market you can pick up houses for much less than they would cost to build. I know this first hand because mine is for sale Rolling Eyes.gif I also understand the op fully. I used to do everything myself but now I am at the age that I would rather pay someone else and enjoy myself doing other things.

Geofa - you are right on the money. "pay someone else and enjoy myself doing other things." It is a personal preference in my view. If you like to spend time going out and buying all the parts and then spend a lot of time building it then you should do it. You can also save about 1k by building it although I must say that I am not sure you could save that much in the long run. So for an extra several hundred bulks, you pay and alienware delivers.

Such a stupid thinking process. Every part you buy has a warranty on it already, and those sandy bridge processors can go for years and years at 4.5ghz because it's such a small increment in voltage. You overpaid by at least $1,500.. not such a smart financial move (even if you think the warranty will be worth it... it won't). Even if you didn't want to build, you should have went with digital storm online... you know.. people who actually KNOW what they're doing.

Look I am not going to spend more time discussing whether it is a good idea to buy or build. In short, I am happy with the computer's performance. It took me 15 minutes to order the computer and in a few days I had it. Did I spend more money by buying? yes I did. But in the end, all I had to do was plug it in and turn it on. I am not telling anyone how to build their computer or whether they should buy. In my case, I have the money to spend an extra 1k and I avoided the work. It's that simply. You keep building if this in your choice. In my initial post, all I wanted to do was show you a good video with a nice music and good performance. I am happy.

As for "thinking process" and "stupid" which I think is way out of line..consider the following: You are in a place in life where your time is worth $200/hr. It may take you 5-6 hours to investigate, hunt out, and build your system.Instead you pay someone else to do it, give them much needed business in today's economy, and go instead and enjoy a rw flight, or a day of golf. Sounds "wise" to me...Whistle.gif

Doesn't make sense at all.

You're right, as long as you're happy.

For crying out loud fellas, leave the guy alone! If he wants to buy a machine already made then that's his business. I'm sure he doesn't want everyone telling him he's wasted his money. If we all did the same as everyone else it would be a very boring world we lived in!

Oh I'm not saying it is a waste of money at all. If he can afford it and wants it, then that's cool. Normally I build mine but there's nothing wrong with buying a PC and getting some tech monkey to do the work for you, it's only the same as taking your car into a garage and having someone fix that for you; I know how to fix my car, but that doesn't mean I always feel like doing it myself. Sure, I agree Al. A year ago I too had my machine built, but now having become completely immersed in FSX I am now preparing to build my first machine over the winter months.

And of course, as soon as you start building your own,you are hooked!Pluse, upgrades get cheaper (in general).I think I spent about €400 with a new mobo,RAM,CPU and PSU.

Darn, I've just hit on info re an IB release date of March 2012. Just when I was going to build a SB rig! http://www.techspot.com/news/45956-intels-ivy-bridge-processors-slated-for-march-2012-release.htmlI guess it would make sense to wait, although I'm sure the prices of Sandy Bridge chips will now begin to tumble. Pooh, why is life so complicated...

I believe you. One thing I get that you don't is the 3 year warranty (plus a first rate support). If my processor blows up because of over heating I get a new computer because alienware overclocked it. (and what do you get?) At the moment I am blessed and I can afford the cost.
I'm happy you are pleased with your system, even though I also think their prices are way too high. One tip is to look at www.overclockers.co.uk (I bet there are similar in US also) there you can buy overclocked bundles with warranty for decent prices. Anyway, I hope you have many happy flying hours in your new computer. PS. In next movie, avoid music. Although Vangelis is great, nothing beats the sound of 747's engines Angel.gif . DS

Thanks, hasse29. I love the sound of the 747 as well - maybe next time.

Doesn't make sense at all. Trust me-when it does make sense you will be a happier and more succesful individual...
