NGX and 744 for X-Plane !

Well, where is future taking us? If we look at some logical fact we can get a hint. First news about MS Flight was in August 31 2010. Since first videos and pics came up December 2010 and sice they announced that old scenery will work we can conclude that they are not rewriting it. A better guess is better support for multiple cores and new approach to some things. Since they talking about wider audience and better experience they will include some other elements. My personal guess is adding more options close to FSPassenger and/or even elements from The Sims. Because of that there will probably still be processor issues (like fsx today). I haven't played X-plane yet, but the little have seen from xp10 it looks even more great than MS Flight. I read somewhere that Aerosoft will make scenery for xp10 Since they have information about MS Flight we don't have it's easy to believe that they are not completly satisfied about what's comming, and looking at xp10. They, together with PMDG, are big enough too get influence in this limited market. Therefore it's not to wild guess that xp10 can take a leading position in this market. In that case we will see PMDG in x-plane for sure. Just my 2 cents. (Sory about crappy spelling and grammar, english is my third language).

What's the big fuss about XP10? MS Flight is coming out with a new sim in a couple of months, it's going to be way better than XP10 :)

Word of mouth is February of 2012 but it's unofficial

No it will not be Feb of 2012.

I think we would know more by now if it was expected to be released in February

Yes, that it is November 9, 2011 and it is not even in Beta testing yet. Look for around a year from now.

We all will just have to wait and see... but I'm sure that it will be a great upgrade to the sim world :)

Please stop being logical. It's too strange a thing for us to understand.

Guys, I was there and listened to the original announcement that was made there: Mr. Diekmann, CEO of Aerosoft, who are responsible for the distribution of X-Plane 10 in Europe, said "PMDG have received a copy of X-Plane 10 beta, so they can consider converting their 737 or 747 for X-Plane".Someone heard "Beta, PMDG, 737, XPlane" and concluded that PMDG had a beta of the 737 running in X-Plane. That is NOT what they said.PMDG got a copy of X-Plane 10 beta 7. It's not sure they even asked for it. Aerosoft send them one as a compliment. It is not even sure that PMDG will even look into it. Well, they would be foolish if they didn't, so I think they will. Then they must decide whether they want take up the process of converting.Converting the 3d exterior is the easiest part. There exist export plugins for Autodesk 3ds max to X-Plane. Aerosoft has them. Also, the 3d interior shouldn't be a big problem, also the textures. The problem starts when they want to convert the flight model. There is no converter. This is not an easy process, and not a process that can be automated. It takes a lot of time of manual tuning. The IXEG folks spent half a year of tuning their 737-400 flightmodel for X-Plane. With a considerable amount of hours in a real D-Level 737 sim at Lufthansa. And those are the best experts for X-Plane, having worked on X-Plane for years already. If it takes them half a year, it will take PMDG without X-Plane experience a year to reach the same result. Then there is the programming of all the systems. Also this cannot be converted. Sure, the logic can be re-used, and if PMDG did a good job in software design and have a good separation of concerns in their code, they can re-use some of their sourcecode, but at least all the data-access (converting from simconnect to X-Plane datarefs) and all the display rendering (converting from GDI+ to openGL) code has to be rewritten from scratch. And, moreover, right now they programmed on Windows, and used a Windows toolchain. For X-Plane, they have to be Mac compatible. This means a switch to another toolchain (from visual studio to gcc or clang). If they use a lot of windows-proprietary stuff in their code, this will also have to be rewritten. All things considered, I would be extremely surprised if we see a 737NGX for X-Plane any sooner than Christmas 2013.Philipp
Good point, well made Philipp. Sounds like a mountain to climb doesn't it. Let's hope PMDG are up for a challenge.

PMDG have had invested a lot of money and resources in flight sim and they will be looking for the future. FSX got a few more years to go, Flight nobody knows whats the direction it's going for, but from what we have seen, it might be better than FSX if they upgrade and improve some of the buggy code that they already had for years, BUT the concept is the same at least for me from what I have seen. on the other side XP is talking a whole new concept with one release, improving a great weather engine that they have, no more blurry textures and homes and building on top of wrong textures, lighting in general is way better than what FSX or Flight can offer in the near future, night flying will be so nice and realistic with XP ... etc the list is big to mention everything. The people that run PMDG are smart and I'm sure they will have the vision to see the right path for flight sim.

Nobody knows what flight will be when its released so theres no point saying flight will be better at this and xplane will be better at that. I watched the video presentation from the recent flightsim show and XP looks good, but not convinced that I'll switch from FSX. I have a lot of money already invested with Microsoft's sim in the form of addons, which I don't want to (or can't!) reinvest in Xplane. Personally, I'm waiting to see what Flight will bring before I make any decisions on which Sim to go with.
