January 9, 201214 yr I really didn't know just how much automation is in the MD11 compared to, say, the 737 and it's actually a bit more like an Airbus to fly. For example, when starting the engines the packs automatically shut off and come back on line when you've done, there is a massively more comprehensive crew alerting system than in a 737 and the auto flight system is way more advanced. Plus for me the biggest surprise was how the MD manages speed control for you all the way down the descent to final, something you'd not trust VNAV in a 737 to do for you..The name Ruud Bakker was mentioned in this thread and in case you didn't know it, it's a reference to the captain in an ITVV video where they fly a Martinair MD11 from Schiphol to Mallorca. All the ITVV videos are simply excellent, I have almost every one of them, and I highly encourage you to get it: http://www.itvv.com/.../mpmd11dvd.htmlWhen it comes to judging whether an add-on is expensive or not, I always compare the price to the number of hours I've used it, ie value. I paid a lot for the MD11 (bought the fs9 fsx combo packet but have never even installed it in FSX...) but given the amount of hours I've flown with it, it's GREAT VALUE. Lots of ambience in the cockpit due to the sound/great night lighting and a new way of doing things. Edited January 9, 201214 yr by Krister Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
January 9, 201214 yr However I am eyeing their 747 for a new long hauler, bt havnt qujte commited to it yet, but unfortunately the md is definetly out of the question due to the high price tag. Whether I'd recommend the MD11 or the 747 depends on what kind of sim user you are. Certainly despite the 747 being an old software, it still has enough systems complexity to keep you occupied and in awe. But the PMDG MD11 is systems wise on another level than the 747 and also has a lot more feel to it than the queen. I love flying the 747, especially since I have the CPFlight hardware MCP and EFIS that is compatible with it, but I'm much more sucked into the MD11 simulation. Also, in the cockpit the 747 is basically just a bigger version of the 737 or the 767. What I mean is that if you can fly the PMDG737 or LevelD767, you are up and running in a very short time with the 747. Whether that is bad or good is up to you, but to me the MD11 is refreshingly different. Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
January 9, 201214 yr HelloI don't have the PMDG version, but the free (by Overland )model ,fitted with the excelllant Alain Capt freeware panel.(some complexity ,but nothingto brain swagglingy difficult) Its great and I use it regularly.Andy
January 9, 201214 yr the excelllant Alain Capt freeware panelThanks for bringing back my memories, Andy! :angel:I once loved that panel. I used it merged with also freeware iFDG MD-11's. That was a lot of fun!But even earlier I used Alain's full MD-11 package (with the Swissair Asia livery!) for FS98. It was my first 'complex' FS airliner...

A de ja vu or memory dementia eating me slowly from my feet up?Pity that Alain seems to have disappeared from the FS scene.Looks like he's more into outer space now, lol... http://www.acsoft.ch.../nouvelles.htmlBut his MD-11 is still available! http://www.acsoft.ch...md11-panel.htmlCant beat that wonderful cabin music on taxiingTrue, true! And the sweet flight attendant... :Smug:Thanks again for the memory journey. And back to PMDG MD-11 - sorry guys for the OT.PS I hate this Edited by new stuff (see down these words)... :( Edited January 9, 201214 yr by Rafal
January 9, 201214 yr PS I hate this Edited by new stuff (see down these words)... :(Yes the edited thing is rather odd isn't it? We can edit our own posts, but nobody elses'. Logically, therefore, it will be Rafal who edits Rafal's posts. And not Vlad the Impaler for example. Or i suppose it could be a Mod?The Alain Capt freeware MD-11 panels were great for their time and Alain was always gracious in answering stupid questions from me :-) Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
January 9, 201214 yr Alain was always gracious in answering stupid questions from meLol, I've never ever dared to ask him a question! Now looks like I was even more stupid. Gavin B, where's your Edited by?BTW Can you make a post built of Edited by only? Edited January 9, 201214 yr by Rafal
January 10, 201214 yr After all these years, looking back at ACS Md11 panel (which I used with iFDG's MD11) it's still a piece of art! (I wonder where's iFDG now)I go to some other forums and found out that sometimes mod or admin edit user's post because of bad words or contents inside. And then the user start asking "who the hell edited my post" :( Hoang Le i7 13700k - Sapphire Nitro+ AMD RX 7900 XT - Asus TUF Z790 PLUS D4 - Gskill Trident 32GB DDR4-3600 LG 34GP63A-B Ultrawide - ASUS VG259QM MSFS2020
